American Afternoon with Ron Reagan – Tuesday, May 13th 2008

Ron Reagan is back for his 2nd day in the guest host chair. Today is another big day for the Dems as the West Virginia primary is happening. Ron will open up the phones today for your comments on the primary as well as asking a couple guests what they think.
Joining Ron in HOUR ONE will be Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY). Slaughter is currently representing New York's 28th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, and serving as chair of the powerful House Rules Committee. The 28th district is based in Rochester and Buffalo and includes parts of Erie, Monroe, Niagara and Orleans Counties. Despite representing a historically Republican area, Slaughter is one of the most liberal members of the New York congressional delegation from upstate New York. She is one of several Democratic congressmen and senators who post at Daily Kos, a Democratic-oriented blog. Louise is a Hillary Clinton backer but recently came out and said that Hillary’s chances of winning the Democratic nod is “pretty slim”. Ron and Congresswoman Slaughter will be talking about the candidates and today’s primary.
Joining Ron is HOUR TWO will be John Dean. Dean was White House Counsel to U.S. President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. As White House Counsel, he became deeply involved in events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and the subsequent Watergate scandal cover up, even referred to as "master manipulator of the cover up" by the FBI. Dean is currently an author, columnist, and commentator on contemporary politics, strongly critical of conservatism and Republican Party, and a registered independent supporting impeachment of President Bush. Dean is the author of “Conservatives w/o Conscience”, “Worse Than Watergate”, “Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches” and his latest book called “Pure Goldwater”.

Dean was the one who set the Watergate cover-up in motion.
On the "smoking gun tape" of June 23rd 1972, Bob Haldeman said that AG Mitchell and Counsel to The President Dean suggested using the CIA to block The FBI's investigation, based on a meeting he'd had that morning with Dean.
Dean did not have a discussion with John Mitchell about using the CIA to block the FBI until the evening of June 24th, 1972.
Dean was unaware of the existence of the Oval Office taping system. He tried to conflate the meeting with Mitchell with the "smoking gun meeting" to cover up that this was his idea alone.
As Daniel K. Inouye said, "You are a primary instigator of . . . the Watergate Scandal".
As they say, "It takes a thief . . . ."

By joejamesonMay 13, 2008 - 4:21pmim too busy
listening to Randi when Sam is not on. This carousel of hosts is making matters worse because listeners have no idea what they are tuning into and have no time to get to know a host and automatically form a liking for them.

By onNYTurfMay 14, 2008 - 2:36pmAir America Radio is going down the tubes
When Air America came into being, I had it on basically all the time....home and car.
I would listen to my local WCPT, stream AA or eventually I bought a XM radio. I am know learning to live once again without it. Today at this time spot, I can listen to Ed Schultz on Sirrus trashing Hillary, Randi on Nova, trashing Hillary and now Ron who spent a huge part of his show yesterday going after Hillary and today suggesting we are racists if we don't vote for Obama. With Sam Seder gone from Sunday, there is really no one left to listen too and I guess I
will now have lots of fun time to fill. By the way, Ron, I am not a racist, I went to fund raisers
for Obama here in Illinois when he ran for Senate and I campaigned for him, although it
was basically a cake walk for him to become a Senator. I didn't have a problem with him
being a Senator but President is an entirely different thing. You see I know the real Obama and he is not the myth the press has created. He is a deeply flawed man with so many unsavory
people in his life that would keep most other candidates from competing. The lies that he has told and has been given a pass on are a stacked a mile high. He is no
different from any other candidate that has every pursued a politcal office. He has been crafted by Axelrod to look different but he is just a carbon copy of Axelrod's first creation Duval Patrick and I would suggest you go see how that is working out in MA.

By gabbyoneMay 13, 2008 - 4:44pmCaller said voters need to pasticipate
I must disagree, voter participation is not the real problem.. The real problem is the media shaping and flavoring what people call "news." The big money powers that own the media, chose to invest all that money to control elections.. Restoring Prez. Carters fairness doctrine would make it so fake news could be fines and sued ($$$$) when they LIE to the voters..

I agree I hated AAR choices with Randi and I lovede some of the hosts that lost their time slots.. THAT DOES NOT MEAN I AM READY TO JUMP SHIP.. This is what the conservatives have on us, they vote as a block while we liberals tend split out votes.. Yes it is shades of grey, but This is how I see it..
I think Tom Hartman is my favorite.. I liked Mike Mallow.. Sam seder.. The only one I did not like was Springer (because he was too conservative leaning for my taste.. but I agreed with hom on most things)..
I think we liberals should find a way to use our diversity to our advantage, insterad of allowing the divided we fall mode..

Why is it only white people who are accused of being racist? When Obama won all the southern states by a huge black vote were they accused of being racist and ignorant.

I read the comments of other listeners last week when Marrin and Seder were on the show. It seems that they (Marrin and Seder) were the favorites in this guest host contest. Why are you not listening to the feedback from your audience?

I thought the audience was going to be able to vote on their preference for the 3-6 pm Host? How do we vote? I cannot find any way of voicing my opinion other than right here?
Personally I want AAR to keep Sam Seder on the radio! Seder/Maron together are good too.
I am at a crossroads because I listen only to Thom & Seder on AAR.

AAR MANAGEMENT OBVIOUSLY HAVE SOMETHING AGAINST SAMMY. WHY ELSE WOULDN'T THEY STICK HIM IN THIS SLOT WHEN EVERYONE WANTS IT? SAMMY, YOU SHOULD GO TO NOVA M OR SOMEWHERE. AAR PROGRAMMING HAS GONE DOWN THE TUBES. MIKE MALLOY IS GONE. SAM SEDER BARELY DOES ANY SHOWS. CENK UYGUR WAS ALL RIGHT, ALTHOUGH A LITTLE TOO CONSERVATIVE FOR ME. I DIDN'T CARE MUCH FOR RANDI RHODES OR MARC MARON.

HOW COME YOU TALKED SO MUCH ABOUT RACISM ON YOUR LAST SHOW, BUT YOU NEVER ONCE MENTIONED THAT YOUR DADDY WAS A VICIOUS RACE BAITER WHO STARTED HIS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN BY GOING TO A SOUTHER KU KLUX KLAN STRONGHOLD TOWN WHERE 3 CIVIL RIGHTS WORKERS WERE MURDERED & SAYING HE SUPPORTS STATES RIGHTS? WHY DON'T YOU DENOUNCE DADDY ASSAULT ON AMERICA LIKE LUKE SKYWALKER DENOUNCED DARTH VADER? THEN YOU'LL HAVE CREDIBILITY AND BE A JEDI HOST. HA HA.

Rachel Maddow and Thom Hartmann are two of the most intelligent and well-informed talk show hosts in the USA. Not only are they knowledgeable about most issues on the political scene, they both cover a wide spectrum of topics. And, thank goodness they both have great senses of humor.
If you notice, they represent the progressive/liberal point of view. During this long campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, neither has expressed a preference. THIS IS AS IT SHOULD BE. A host on such programming has an obligation to inform listeners, not attempt to sway them toward one candidate or another. Both Rachel and Thom talk about the problems and mistakes both candidates have had. But always, they present the progressive/liberal point of view. They tell their listeners why McCain would be another 4 years of Bush.
I think highly of your appearances on cable news networks and AAR, Ron, but I do not appreciate your partisanship. Should you have a choice? Certainly! I'm sure Rachel and Thom do as well. But the audience is not here to listen to your preference. We listen to learn how to fight the good fight against Republicans and Conservatives who wish to take away more of our rights, continue the war in Iraq and possibly spread it to Iran, appoint more conservative Supreme Court judges, and continue to ruin our economy.
Please consider this when you appear on AAR. Many of us need to listen to what's best for our nation. In the case of Clinton and Obama, both brilliant and capable, either has my vote. Let's get on to the larger issues.

I am unable to hear the Ron Reagan show on my XM. The show has been inexplicably preempted by Randi Rhodes’ vile ramblings. I was under the impression that we were finished with her. Is the Ron Reagan show only available on line or is it only preempted in certain markets?
Thanks -
