First thing tomorrow morning I pile into my fuel-efficient vehicle and head to Denver for the national convention. I'm accredited through local Seattle blog HorsesAss.org, but I'll also be posting national stuff regularly for Booman Tribune (as well as doing several community radio and newspaper things). So here's my question: what should I cover? There's a ton of things going on this time, from the outside war zone protests to the PUMAs to Obama's historic nomination, plus all the usual craziness of a national convention. I have good connections with all of these facets. What's your priority?
toough call
Given my druthers, I'd go for:
1.) the facts and feel of the outermost protesters. What are their issues? How many of them are part of Rushie's "Operation Chaos?"
2.) the Police response to the protesters.
3.) reporting on the PUMA's, and perhaps recording their names for the infamy.
4.) making sure that the body politic is made aware of any attempts at disruption, from the PUMAs, the rushies, or the usual gang of idiots.
5.) Giving us an analysis of the favored issues of the democratic powers that be, and then compare them with an analysis of the proverbial democratic person on the street.
Not so much a priority list as a quasi itinerary.

By wrenchboyAugust 18, 2008 - 8:30pmRush does not have enough
listeners to do much of anything. His listeners are mostly just poor, uneducated, frightened racists. These scumbags would not have the money to go to a convention.

By hufflarry2000August 18, 2008 - 8:45pmthey might not go INTO the convention
But the Fearless Adherents to Rush's Talks (F.A.R.T.s) could:
1.) pool their money to allow at least 1 member per dittohead band to enter the convention
2.) They could easily drive up, and stir up the Shyte. They could theoretically start enough riots to close down sections of the city.
3.) They could keep trying to pass themselves off as liberals, to poison the media stream.
These nut jobs COULD get up some cash to enter the convention. Just look at how much money is generated for mega-churches and overly amped up trucks.

If they can pass as liberals, they might also go on liberal websites and claim that Rush doesn't have enough followers to interfere in order to throw us off.

By gt6August 19, 2008 - 8:37amI watched some moron from PUMA's on "Hardball"
one night last week - these whiney women should just quit while they're ahead and call it a day.
They're setting women's rights back about 200 years ...

By Pookie2112August 19, 2008 - 12:12pmI saw a couple of PUMAs on there last week while
David Shuster was hosting. It was great fun, as he let them make fools of themselves. He asked some pretty pointed questions, which they were totally unable to handle. If they are the best that Hillary supporters can field, it is no wonder she lost. They definitely proved why Hillary won the "uneducated" demographic during the primaries. I doubt they could even get a paying job at WalMart!

By UffdaguyAugust 19, 2008 - 12:36pmIt might have been the same show we watched ...
weren't they just two of the most moronic people you've ever seen?!
One whiner was some stupid bitch from PUMA - who, by the way, was called to the carpet for her $500 donation to McSame in 2000 ... he asked, pointedly, whether she was really a Repug, posing as a Dem, in order to fuck with the election ... she didn't know if she was coming or going she looked so confused ... she couldn't answer a simple question to save her life and she made "Stuttering John" from the old Howard Stern show sound positively crystal-clear.
The other mental midget was some douche bag from "Just Say No Deal" who couldn't get out of his own way to answer a simple question with a simple answer.
Neither one could answer a question without invoking the tired, old talking points. Classic deer-caught-in-the-headlines blank stares for any answer asked for beyond their talking points. They made themselves look like larger idiots than they already are ...

By Pookie2112August 19, 2008 - 12:52pmYep, that was definitely the show I saw
I kept wondering if Huff was watching and cheering them on for their "great" performance!
They were all the confirmation I needed that Hillary and her supporters are much closer to being repubs than dems. I wish Shuster had asked that woman if she wanted Obama to lose so badly that McCain could appoint more conservative judges to take her remaining rights away. Is she so bitter and clueless that she is willing to subject this country to a hard-right court for literally decades to come? These people can't see the damage that a McCain presidency would wreak. In that respect, they are WORSE than the Nader supporters in 2000. At least back then, none of us knew how monumentally catastrophic a Bush presidency could be. Today, there is no excuse to allow someone so much like Bush to be elected again.

By justintymeAugust 19, 2008 - 1:10pmShuster DID ask her that very question ...
her response was ... nothing going on behind the eyes - complete blankness - I do believe Shuster stumped her - she couldn't answer the question. That's when he brought up her $500 to McSame in 2000, which question she dodged as well. I think Shuster nailed this little RepugliCANT bitch.
I couldn't believe these people actually went on national TV and thought they'd made their cases. In my mind, they did more to harm their 'goddess' than they did to help her. If these are her 'supporters', Hillary certainly doesn't need any 'enemies' ...

Pray tell us poor unwashed masses the Great Prophecy of Hillary, that shows how she'd win the USA back to the forces of GOOD and LIGHT and LIBERALISM, that we may rejoin the Eden of the lambasted latte-liberal. What angel descended from the heavens and hipped you to the great rock of truth?

1.) the republicans can't beat Hillary
2.) the republicans KNOW they can't beat Hillary
3.) If the republicans know they can't beat Hillary, why did Rush et al direct their listeners to vote for Hillary?

By justintymeAugust 19, 2008 - 10:32amGet our country back while you're there please :)
One main thing about this convention that makes me hopeful is that we seem to have a real candidate who has America's best intrests at heart. If Obama doesn't win this election then it will truly be a sad day for the country. Of course if he doesn't after four years of McSame it should be a long, long time before another one gets in office, but let's hope the next guy (or gal) would be Barack Obama or someone of his calibre. Republicans have ruined America as we've always known it. It's time to stop the insanity (with apologies to Susan Powter).
I remember hearing that we "may" be the first generation to not do better than our parents in the early 90's, as if the boomers had reached the pinnacle to life in America and there was nowhere to go but down from there.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I've got to say looking back it seems as if these people at the top knew they were about to downsize on a massive scale, send jobs to China at an alarming rate putting people without degrees in direct competition for their jobs with people in communist countries and the 3rd world who make 15 cents per hour (and aren't allowed to unionize) and now we are seeing even certain degreed positions being outsourced to the 3rd world putting college grads in competition with those workers as well.
But if we really look at it we see that in the early 90's a lot of the big money that was backing the entertainment industry in the decades before kind of pulled out. Think about it, television and top 40 music used to be fairly diverse, and good. Now who are the big stars? Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity types. Talk radio I believe has been used to advance these notions that things that are bad for middle and lower income families have been used 24/7 to propogate an agenda that has had well meaning middle and lower income Americans voting for these things every 2 to 4 years.
We've been sold down the tubes for a quick payoff at the top, screw the long term effect on the country and it's people on down the road. Now how do we get it back from them?
I grew up in the 70's and 80's and I remember when life was at least better, when the dollar had buying power so now the boomers get to retire with benefits without a college education, "X" and "Y" can't find a pension with a degree so I can only fear what my kids in "Z" will be the last in a line of people who at least come from America as we've known it.
13 years of unabashed Republicanism has ruined this country, it's gotten us deeper in debt (to communists in China at that), it's partnerned up American business with communist dictatorships and things will only get worse if we keep it up. Anything we the people ask for in decent wages is too much now, retirement? Nah, Social Security too. The problem isn't going away, it's up to gen x & y to save it for z. Remember that Gen X tenant of "Keeping it Real?" It's time to do that. Talk to other people about this problem, get the word out, hell if you can't think of anything to say forward this post, don't just sit there one day longer and let it crumble around us!! WE KNOW THIS IS BULLSHIrT!!! WE KNOW WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS AND IT'S DOWNRIGHT TIME WE GOT OURS TOO! Even if we have to wrench it from corporate executives dirty little hands.
What do you know, a working class hero really is something to be after all. Let's get it back.
