Congrats to Maddow
Couldn't be more deserved and....It's about time!
Just in time for the closing rush of the presidential election, MSNBC is shaking up its prime-time programming lineup, removing the long-time host –- and one-time general manager of the network — Dan Abrams from his 9 p.m. program and replacing him with Rachel Maddow, who has emerged as a favored political commentator for the all-news cable channel.
I agree with Olbermann...
I did like the description of her in The Nation: "Everything about her radiates competence and a deft, bright careerism."

Way to go Rachel!
Congrats Rachel!
On hearing the news I put down my beer, arose from my recliner, and applauded and cheered loudly.
Now I'm going to need to make time to sit in front of the television machine for an additional hour each day.
Best of luck, you deserve it!

Congrats Rachel! I am so excited and can't wait til 09-08-08. :-). I heard you and Keith Olbermann talking about naming your show. I thought maybe "The Real Deal with Rachel Maddow" might not be to bad. We know with you we will get the "Real Deal". Best of luck and have a blast. Shiela, Mansfield, Ohio

Now Keith will have to find another back-up host.....bad for Keith (I have complete confidence that they will get someone really good) but FANTASTIC for Rachel!!
It was a matter of time, really. She thinks on her feet better than anyone I've seen on political commentary television, pulls details out of thin air that make one think: "Oh yeah, I forgot about that one!" from her well-stocked arsenal of debating tools. And her delivery is so very concise.
CONGRATULATIONS RACHEL!!!!

We were first impressed with you on the first Air America Cruise - so bright, so witty, so committed to democracy. You deserve more air time and TV is pefect, so people can see the mischief in your eyes, and the facial expressions that amplify your opinions!
Lots of possible names for the show - "Boldly going where others do not dare", Searching for the world we wish for, The Ideal Political World...
Anyway, congratulations!

Congratulations, Rachel. I would program my TiVo tonight if I could. It took them long enough; but they made the right decision.
It's going to be great to watch the 'teevee' machine and see a woman of substance, intelligence and wry wit with her own show.
You get to be a teevee radio personality now-with one huge difference; you actually fact check.

We will be celebrating Rachael Maddow night here in San Luis Obispo, California tonight. I was so thrilled to hear the news of your new show, that I reminded my husband that from 7-8 Pacific time we are watchiing Oberman, and in Sept. from 9-10 we will be watching Maddow. So, if he would like to schedule anything else, like dinner, talking or sex, it will have to be durng the 8-9 timeslot. So very happy for your good news. I did the Rachael Maddow is getting a show dance for my dogs, they were not impressed, but did seem to react to my enthusiasm.

I can not wait to see the new show. I hope we will be able to video podcast it. I suppose naming the show The Maddow Show, The Doctor Maddow Show, The Doctor Rachel Maddow Show, The Doctor Ninja Show, or The Transvestite Lesbian Show are all out.
I have been thinking about having a t-shirt printed up that says;
I've listened to Rachel Maddow before any body ever heard of Rachel Maddow?
Since the days of Liz, Chuck D, and Rachel, I am in awe of how far you have come.
Keep up the great work and keep us informed.

By angelfirempAugust 19, 2008 - 9:34pmA Remarkable Day for Television
MSNBC now offers a one-two knock-out punch of Olbermann and Maddow. It will be a blast to see FAUX News try to counter this dynamic duo.
Rachel, you asked for ideas for your show today after your radio announcement. I'd love to see a "BS O-Meter where you show a politician make a statement with a gauge at the bottom showing how much BS it contains. (Is is an outright lie? Is it "massaging the message"? Is it contradictory to previous statements with a political motive (as opposed to a change of mind)?) I'd also love to see you get to a white board or make some kind of chart that your views/listeners can show our right-wing friends with the following headings: Politician said/Truth is/Source for Truth is... Make it easy and obvious for us to fight out here. We don't sit around with notes like you do when you work. I'd love to see an easy resource for me to counter their right-wing "knowledge".
Congratulations. Oh, by the way, you are my 15-year-old daughter's hero. Keep up the good work.

By Catherine DrewAugust 19, 2008 - 9:50pmExcellent, Dr. Maddow.
I listened to suggestions by the callers on my XM today, and I agree that there has to be a spot for Kent Jones. The buried headlines(probably paraphrased) of the day is always great. Your pet story of the day can now be accompanied by adorable video when possible.
I still think frequent debates between you and Tucker would be most intriguing, and the best way to for the most intelligent, progressive media figure out there to tackle an eloquent, rightwing debater that can do more than Boehner Robototron talking points. I think the name Crossfire is taken, but maybe you could call the segment fiery cross or something like that.
As for the show name, anything will be better than Verdict with Dan VanSustern.
Just call it the, Has Anyone Heard of Rachel Maddow Hour. Maybe you can track down the actual ditto cam footage of this comment by America's favorite fascist and have him introduce your show.

MSNBC will truly be the place to watch for political commentary and analysis with you and Keith Olbermann leading the way.
Your desire to present the truth and discuss difficult political issues makes you an extraordinary and necessary commentator in today's times.
Again congratulations and I look forward to watching your new and well-deserved show.

Very happy for Ray-Ray especially considering the One-Two-Punch of KO & Ray.
I believe it's the first time that two progressive shows have been on back to back on cable news and this should be a boost to the Obama campaign.
If Kerry had AAR and this prime time MSNBC prime time line up, Bush would be in jail by now.
Sad to see Dan go...wish they replace Chris Big Mouth with him.

Congratulations. Also to KO for stirring the pot.
Months ago, it was obvious that there was too much daily
material for KO, and I thought, he would need to go to a
two-hour show. Obviously, that is not feasible, and you
are the obvious choice to pull off the second hour after Keith.
Because of this wonderful news, and because you asked viewers

that you were open to suggestions for names for your new show,
I humbly submit for consideration:

Congratulations Rachel and Congrats to MSNBC for doing what my partner and I have been calling for for months! We don't get Air America out here in the nowheres and are on land line so no audio feed either, but you have been a breath of fresh air to us lately. Thanx to Keith for sticking with you and seeing it thru' with you.
Our idea for the Show's name has probably come to you in many forms, multiple times, but how about
Wrap Up With Rachel Maddow...
It kinda follows Countdown's rythm.
Instead of the 2nd Movement of my favorite Composer's 9th Symphony you could go the opposite direction and let my friends and me write and play your theme......plug,plug. It would be so contemporary no one will have had a chance to hear it before.

I'm so proud of and happy for you, Rachel! For your consideration: Keep on with "We begin our show, as we do every day, with News from Iraq and Life During Wartime." Today's centrality of the issue of America's economy is imho a direct result of the MSM's spurious back-paging of our wastrel lawless attack on and subsequent occupation of Iraq. Please keep on holding the mirror of political truth to those who don't get it. Please also keep on with your wry, witty, bright, wacky and entertaining life perspectives. You leaven our daily bitter reality with welcome bits of cleverness and badinage.
Business note: If you no longer are podcast from AAR I will cancel my 3-year Premium sub. There was no question that it was still worth it even after Randi's ouster; but bright as Thom is, I can't justify the high subscription cost for him alone. And I bet that I speak for others on this. Word to the wise, President Green. Your next membership hit is on its way, and you deserve it.
My esteemed Doctor Maddow: Your voice is a daily bright spot for me, and it is wonderful to see your career blossoming so deservedly. I wish you many more years of brilliant success. Your country needs you, now more than ever.

Congrats, Rachel. It's well deserved.
Given the Olbermann ratings crush, I'm not quite sure what took MSNBC so long to catch on to the fact that progressive-leaning programming was/is in demand and becoming more and more popular. The one-two punch of Olbermann-Maddow should prove to be quite powerful.
Now, if we could only get MSNBC to fill the lead-in to Olbermann with a progressive program to replace the re-run of The Slobbering Spitface...

By totallyAugust 20, 2008 - 8:07pmSuggestions for Rachel, embarking on her newest endeavor
These Interesting times bring opportunity, once again.
Some more (my) suggestions:
Stay true to yourself should mean 1)honesty/integrity 2) respectful of others, including guests (please allow others to speak and express their thoughts without interruption or re-/mis-representation, and you needn't be trying to have the last word - both disrespectful and sign of insecurity). 3) In this way, maintain your high credibility. Additionally 4) avoid preaching to the choir. Bring others into "the fold"... your show could do best by giving viewers ammunition to question what they might be hearing in the media, question their beliefs, in the privacy of their own world and time, in a non-intimidating, "face-saving" way. 5) Pace yourself, stay balanced, avoid burn-out (incl. routine exercise!) 6) Perhaps decide upon some overwhelming big themes for your show, and approach the daily content with this in mind 7) interesting guests!, perhaps playing off not just events of the week, but also what others are doing (in collaberation?) 8) Continue inviting viewer input 9) Avoid snide-ness and know-it-all-ness. Watch out for the shrieking, high voice.
Does this new show mean I won't be seeing you here in Ithaca on the twelfth?
