Fox To Announce Merger With MSNBC

I am prescient. Pythonic. I read the entrails of the beast. I augur the future. I see where commentary is going and, more importantly, sound the claxon and alert all who care of what to watch for, what to notice, and how to interpret it. Through my unique prism, I provide the lens through which the world should be viewed.
I was the first to notice the absolutely hysterical Fox “News” Channel before it was cool, and, frankly, before anyone caught on. Why?
(Click and scroll for video) Because news programming enjoys a presumption of legitimacy. In fact, I coined the now-oft-used doctrine of “Television News Presumption of Legitimacy.” (See LIONEL on “Media Analysis” §112.) Who first alerted the world to O’Reilly the bombast? Who first signaled that morning show conservative marionette Steve Doocy was one neuron or two short of a synapse? And who also warned against confusing that simpleton with singer/songwriter Steve Ducey? That’s right, yours truly.
Then it became obvious, everyone piled on the no Shiite bandwagon and my initial observation became accepted and part of the collective groupthink. Fine, no problem.
Then an alternative was aborning. Fox counterprogramming MSNBC started to show signs of growing pains, and I was there. I alerted you to the absolutely and criminally vague Dan Abrams, whose show, to this very day, is without description. Think using cigarette smoke trails as a Rorschach test. I was there and predicted Michael Weiner Savage’s imminent flameout. Tada! I watched in wonder at its interstitial afternoon programming. Remember “Bowling for Sport Shirts”? Me neither.
In 2003, MSNBC hit pay dirt with “Scarborough Country.” You mark my words; this will be a cult favorite within that minimum amount of time it takes to achieve cult status. “Scarborough Country” and its host the Joe Scarborough redefined the imagine of hyper-moralist conservative. But did you listen? Did MSNBC listen? Nooooooo! In fact, they reconfigured Joe, the Stanley Fafara of telejournalism, as “Morning Joe.” I told you that neo-Joe is a no-go. His talent is being diluted by his distaff sidekick. And we’ll just leave it at that. Joe is nothing short of genius. The old Joe would play the wide-eyed innocent, far from the rube, though. Think the older Andy Taylor, more seasoned, yet still the country gentleman. (Better yet, think Floyd the Barber, pre-stroke.) No one took me seriously. They thought I was being “mean.” Mean?! They’d a diamond in the rough and didn’t even now it. Remember how brilliantly Joe played the bumpkin in 2005 when he chided California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for suggesting that the moon should be destroyed so as to control menses and “allegedly” didn’t know that it was a bit played on Howard Stern’s radio show and not real? Genius! But no, no one seemed to note that that’s Joe’s bit, his angle. In wrestling speak, it was a work.
Who first noticed that Joe deliberately softens long vowels? That’s right, me! Who first noticed that it was a tad draconian to put child molesters in “gel”? Or who asked what was a Wall Street “bell out”? Me, baby. Me.
Keith Olbermann arrived on the scene and gave it back to O’Reilly. The sesquipedalian against the Boeotian. The chiral O’Reilly. The antipodal Bill. They were mirror images. Chris Matthews, whose hyper-salivating reportedly is sending drool cup futures through the roof, like O’Reilly plays on the ham-fisted Irish barstool diplomat, waxing incoherent about low-end roots. I was the one who pointed that out. I was the first to alert the media to the media.
And do I get any thanks? Recognition? Does anyone throw me a bone and say, “You were right, Lionel.” Nope. A vague reference, at least in recognizing my initial observations? Well, maybe. Kinda.
I give you "Exhibit A":

bakashah!
Oh, goody.
I want to be the FRist! to say: my god, Michael, er Lionel, you're like so Teh Awesome.
Totally.
I mean, taking it to MSNBC for showing DocBlocs over Mumbai news, despite the fact that MSNBC beat out all the other new channels in the 25-54 demo ratings during that time?
Brilliant!
I bow to your supremacy, Michael... er.. Lionel.
**bends over**

We've told you to get lost before.
Calling Lionel Michael makes you feel so smart. Your constant jealousy of Lionel shows all the time.
By the way, we'll reserve a lifelong pass for you...a front seat... on the upcoming TV show...The Lionel Show, to be announced soon.

Where to begin? At the end, I guess...
By the way, we'll reserve a lifelong pass for you...a front seat... on the upcoming TV show...The Lionel Show, to be announced soon.
------------------------
There's already "The Lionel Show".
And if the radio show ratings are any indication, you'll be waiting a while.
That said...
Nevermind the reservation. I'd spend less time watching than I do listening, which is nil.
We've told you to get lost before.
-------------------------
For starters: I think you are imagining things. I don't recall as much.
(though I do recall you pitching another hissy fit before)
But, more importantly: "we've" would seem to indicate that not only are you imagining things, but you are also hearing voices in your head.
Seek help immediately, as you are a danger to yourself and others.

Oh my God, is there really such a thing as a Michael Weenie er, Savage fan? I really thought it was something someone created to prove their theory on mental illness! That lepton makes Limbaugh and O'Reilly seem like left-wing radicals. Let's hope they can't procreate!

Just look at reported advertising revenues. MSNBC has maintained a fairly stable revenue stream, while Fox has lost something like 70% of its advertising base.
Then there's the matter of talent shift. MSNBC gains Rachel Maddow (yay!), Fox splits up InSannity and Colmes and gives InSannity the entire show to himself. Anyone want to bet Colmes announces a show on MSNBC in the next two weeks?

God, I hope not. Colmes is lame, he would be better suited for Fox 2 aka CNN.

How many of you know what that word means? Claxon! I haven't heard it in ages. It means using your car horn! How quaint and delightful of Lionel to use the word. Now, what were we talking about ... oh, yes rupert murdoch pondering taking over MSNBC. Well, I hope MSNBC decides, as Sarah of Alaska says, "Thinks, but no thinks".

By MadgardnerDecember 3, 2008 - 4:59pmAll Saxby Chambliss's increase in vote reflects is
that people were more ready to get out for Obama than a senatorial race. Its a mistake, but the way it was. Obama still has signing statements and can clean sweep undo and do whatever he wants if he wanted to according to George Bush's rules. So, philobuster proof majority in 2 years then. Till then, just run legeslation that only a carreerly suicidal Republican congressman would dare go against.

By MadgardnerDecember 3, 2008 - 5:41pmI am guessing
that many voters weren't allowed time off from their job twice in two months to do something as trivial as voting in an election. Others probably couldn't secure transportation to the polls twice in two months. Others couldn't afford to drive there twice. Some were just lazy. Other just weren't enthusiastic about the Dem candidate.
We basically saw a bunch of white folks rush to the polls to elect a guy that will do everything he can to prevent Obama from improving their livelihoods. WTG Einstein!

By AntillectualDecember 3, 2008 - 7:37pmRe: the daily show clip
I didn't get the relationship between Ducie(SP) and Maddow.
Ducie is a dumbass, whereas Rachel is a genius.
Ducie does oversensationalized, kindergarten level neocon spin with your morning coffee. He lies to you with a funky smile on his face, but is too fucking stupid to even realize he is lying.
Rachel does hard-hitting, in depth political analysis, and says what she has thought about herself and says what she wants to say, she doesn't read some goofy Rupert script, while not understanding what most of it means.
The only possible comparison I can think of is that Rachel is gay and Ducie (sp) is apparently an extremely iffeminate heterosexual or a closet gay. My only guess is that Rupert wanted to appeal to the Larry Craig-like Republican base.
I viewed this as an insult to Rachel.
I will get right to work on my "Leave her alone!" You-tube video clip.

I am new to this particular "thread" or whatever you call it, and perhaps only booksmart (and not too much of that) BUT IS IT REALLY TRUE THAT FOX AND MSNBC ARE MERGING or is this just a very bad joke I don't get--please, someone, seriously, let me know--I thought things were already bad enough....

Not only is it true, but...
As soon as the merger is completed, they will be announcing new programming that includes a spin-off of Hannity & Colmes called Olbermann & O'Reilly. Rumor has it that their first show will be nothing but apologies back-and-forth between the two for an hour.
This is all a result of suggestions made by Michael... er... Lionel.
Cause he's so Teh Awesome.
