Obama Says No To Religious Discrimination
Yesterday, the AP erroneously reported that Barack Obama would permit faith based discrimination in hiring with non-taxpayers funds for organizations that would participate in his faith based initiative. Subsequently, the NYTimes erroneously reported that there was a legal basis for this position based on theDale Boy Scouts case. Apparently, the Obama campaign made clear that Obama says no to faith based discrimination:
Mr. Obamas position that religious organizations would not be able to consider religion in their hiring for such programs would constitute a deal-breaker for many evangelicals, said several evangelical leaders, who represent a political constituency Mr. Obama has been trying to court. For those of who us who believe in protecting the integrity of our religious institutions, this is a fundamental right, said Richard Cizik, vice president for governmental affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals. Hes rolling back the Bush protections. Thats extremely disappointing.
(Emphasis supplied.) To me, that is extremely heartening. Indeed, it would have been a deal breaker for me if Obama endorsed religious discrimination. I am happy to see that Obama opposes and will not countenance religious discrimination. John McCain endorses religious discrimination -- "Mr. McCain disagrees with Senator Obama that hiring at faith-based groups should be subject to government oversight. McCain is simply not an option for those voters who believe in separation of church and state.

By nonexistent manJuly 2, 2008 - 12:28pmReverend Barry W. Lynn, United Church of Christ minister &
executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, told Olberman on Countdown (July 1) that Evangelicals comprise about 18% of voters.
Lynn went on say that for these hardcore Right Wingers, the only issues are Abortion & Gay Marriage. These people are not the Christians who want to embrace environmentalism, jobs, the economy, Iraq war or the other pressing issues in this country. In other words, they still see Bush as their "pastor".
I felt it rather useless for Obama to pander to 1 or 2% of that 18% of voters. These are the same people who would "drink lye rather than vote for a Democrat". (Quote I got from a voter.)
This smells like the DNC calling the shots like they did with John Kerry. You all remember how well John Kerry did with the advice & strategies of people like Carville & the DNC in the 2004 presidential campaign.

By dtaylo75July 2, 2008 - 4:02pmObama Got Discount on Home Loan
Within Obama's presidential campaign organization, former Fannie Mae chief executive James A. Johnson resigned abruptly as head of the vice presidential search committee after his favorable Countrywide loan became public.
But amid a national housing crisis, news of discounts offered to Sens. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the banking committee, and Kent Conrad (D-N.D) by another lender, Countrywide Financial, has brought new scrutiny to the practice and has resulted in a preliminary Senate ethics committee inquiry into the Dodd and Conrad loans.

President Obama will need trustworthy people around him, and the Countrywide folks have proven themselves to be anything but trustworthy.
Now, can you provide us with the documents that demonstrate President Obama got his mortgage through Countrywide? No? We didn't think so.

you traitorist scum bag.
Now, before you come back with some inane response, please explain to the folks why you insist on doing your traitorious deeds.
Then explain your use of the word traitor to demean me. I think more than one person has asked you to explain yourself. Now do so, or just go away.

Obviously, you've never seen it, read it...or sworn it. You're nothing more than a fucking traitorious liar who wants to see the troops defeated so there are fewer of them to return and need VA benefits.
You and your hero Cowboy-hat Oathbreaker. The Constitution means nothing to either of you.
Go enlist, traitor scum. Join the troops you claim to support. If we're all lucky you'll be casualty # 4,107. And it'll be a frag.

By nonexistent manJuly 2, 2008 - 5:59pmyour the traitor, for not
The people on this board, like Obama, believe that going into Iraq was WRONG in the beginning. And the last 5 years have proved us right. We sent our most valuable resource, our sons and daughters, over to find the WMD.... eh, spread democracy... ummmm, spread freedom... ahhh, secure the region... Oh I forget now.
So those of us who want our troops OUT of harms way, who WANT them to have educational benefits and adequate medical treatments (including mental health issues), we're the ones who are traitors for not supporting out troops?
You make the common Republican mistake, you confuse the "mission" with the "troops". The "troops" are people, human beings, flesh and blood. We support THEM. You support the "Mission", but not the troops.
The Iraq "war" was a complete failure. None of the previous list of stated reasons for being there has been met, the puppet government we set up there is operating a farsical version of Democracy, and even THEY want us out. We've provided a strong recruitment tool for new terrorists by our presence there, and even done them the added favor of placing ourselves conveniently in their back yard making their jihad that much easier. Al Quada has reconstituted to pre-9/11 levels as a result of this, per reports from our own government. Now we are stuck policing a civil war in Iraq and are viewed as occupiers not liberators by the people we are supposed to be helping
Tell me a single facet of this occupation that was a success!

You know he is associated with some pretty shady people, don't you?
By the way, I do believe he is a credible candidate, but I just don't believe he is ready for the job. And McCain is not an ideal candidate, either, but he does have the experience. One thing I do like about both candidates is the civility shown by both men, unlike you people and some of Obama's surrogate's.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.
