Threats and promise

By Avedon from the Sideshow

Bob Herbert read Jane Mayer's The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned Into a War on American Ideals and got chills up his spine reading about Cheney's best pal. In "Madness and Shame" he says: "Dick Cheney's main man and the lead architect of the Bush administration's legal strategy for the so-called war on terror. She quotes a colleague as saying of Mr. Addington: 'No one stood to his right.' Colin Powell, a veteran of many bruising battles with Mr. Cheney, was reported to have summed up Mr. Addington as follows: 'He doesn't believe in the Constitution.'"

You'd think someone would remembered this and tried it already, but the fact that it's no longer routine for general practitioners to look for danger signs before they become expensive emergencies tells you it's been forgotten. But maybe it's wake-up time: "Cutting health costs by paying doctors more? That is the premise of experiments under way by federal and state government agencies and many insurers around the country. The idea is that by paying family physicians, internists and pediatricians to devote more time and attention to their patients, insurers and patients can save thousands of dollars downstream on unnecessary tests, visits to expensive specialists and avoidable trips to the hospital."

"More Unsurprising News: I don't know which is more unsurprising: that the White House overruled a tentative decision by the administrator of the EPA when it came to California's request for a waiver under the Clean Air Act or that the administrator lied about the White House pressure before Congress."

Let's try this again: The Jonathan Alter thing I meant to link was here. The piece I did link (but have since fixed) was a cool little story about a blind rabbi in New Jersey's 5th who is running for Congress against a Republican he calls "a Neanderthal". Dennis Shulman sounds like someone you might want to look into, especially if you happen to be in New Jersey and looking for someone to help out. (Thanks to Julia for the assistance.)

Barack Obama is a scary black man!!!! (Also: Least. Threatening. Threat. Ever.)

Is John Bolton still trying to be relevant?

If history remembers him at all it will be a minor footnote under the heading " Another Bush Administration douchebag of mediocre intelligence who tried to do a job that was completely beyond his modest talents."

You misunderestimate Bolton.

The job Bolton was trying to do was to disrupt diplomatic processes. He did that. It was by no means beyond his talents.

Powell on Addington: "He doesn't believe in the Constitution"

I think we really need to set up a spy network to infiltrate the right wing political machine. We got a taste of what Bush will say off camera when he didn't realize he was being recorded. We need people close to the neocons recording their words and distributing them.

I don't like the idea of spying like that. But the neocons want to change our nation by weakening the constitution and having your rights as a citizen dependent on who you know and how much money you have.

I wish Powell would have remembered his oath to protect the constitution when he witnessed what he did and had decided to document what went on to bring these people to justice.

Exactly .

That's is what will be happening in classrooms all across the nation, starting this fall. Teacher's will be videoed, and they're attempts to indoctrinate they're students will be brought to the schools administrator's attention, as well as being posted on the web, for national scrutiny.

This is a grassroots movement. People taking back their schools.

The people are on our side

and so are the administrators and students. Your attempts to nazify our schools will fail. There are not enough of you to do anything.

I nominate you for a full-time watching gig for the third grade.
You could use a bit of brushing up on your spelling, grammar, and punctuation...

I have just e-mailed every professor I know

Cell phones will be banned from a hell of a lot of classrooms this fall.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.

Cellphones are a nuisance

Cellphones are a nuisance and are a tool for cheating. I, for one, will be happy to see them out of the classroom.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." Dwight Eisenhower

You are a terrorist

Photographing any activity in a classroom without prior consent is a crime. I for one will not stand for it and will defend myself and the students who are there to learn. Furthermore, I will report any and all criminal threats that I see on this blog and elsewhere.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

Where did you come up with

Where did you come up with that law, liberalblue? What are you afraid of? So now they are criminal threats about camera phones in the classroom? Damn you pussies are afraid of your own shadows.

Fuck you

Unauthorized photography can and often is not allowed on college campuses. My personal policy is no photography in my classroom, and I enforce it. Would you like to have one of them revenooers in your rig taking pictures of you? I mean, the whole internets tubes would know how ugly you are.

Your family must be ashamed of you. And you made Baby Jesus shit His little holy diaper again. What kind of man was your father to turn you into this?

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

Go ahead and videotape me.

Go ahead and videotape me. You will not be the first one. You might learn a little spelling and grammar, thinking and a whole lot of French.
People have always had their schools. Most schools have an open policy that allow parents to come by and visit their kids' classrooms, as long as the parents don't disrupt. A lot of parents volunteer in the classroom. There is nothing to hide.

And anyone who has a problem with that can discuss it with me personally, in the presence of my department chair and union rep. If thinking is liberal, then I am biased.

So you're gonna have your

So you're gonna have your department chair AND your union rep in there to think for you, huh. That ought to scare 'em. LOL.

Just home school your

little nazi crackers and you will have nothing to worry about. Keep your little nazis away from normal American kids.

What up irrelevent Negro?

What up irrelevent Negro?

Home school your little crackers

I want you right wing hillbillies kept stupid and uneducated. I want your stupidity more inbred than it is now. Soon, yall will become too stupid to be employable and will be reduced to doing jobs that only illegal immigrants and migrant workers will do. That will help solve the immigration problem and since you crackers are so against social programs there will be no need to have any for yall. That solves two problems. And since you will be working two or three jobs and will be moving around a lot, it will be harder for you to qualify to vote. That will assure a permanent liberal majority.

So home school your little nazis. Do it for America and we true American liberals.

Typical southern "man," eh Huff?

Comes here and thumps his chest if he has one, more likely his Jaw-jah beer belly. If he ever had to face you or I like a man, he'd get on his warty knees and beg for mercy like the yellow little dog that he is.

By indoctrination

I assume that Lil' Hitler here means any viewpoint that differs in the slightest way from his warped fantasyland that composes the neocon belief system.

You are correct, Sir

His kind just wants everyone to have the same high-quality christian conservative education enjoyed by Chimpy's most trusted appointees.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

When I was a student

I had the chance to compare public schools and private Christian schools.
For the sixth grade I was sent to a christian academy. As far as teachin quality went they were about equal. As for indoctrination, in the christian school it was their way or the fires of hell. Their specialty was scaring the shit out of little kids to get them to obey them. Any dissenting thought was not tolerated.
All in all I was glad to go back to a public school.

I don't get it, nobody

I don't get it, nobody complains when cops get taped to hold them responsible for their actions, but when it comes to teachers the libs thow a hissy fit when people want to hold them responsible for their actions. What better way to get parents involved in their children's education than allow them to see the classes that their children are in? Oh, that's the problem, the libs DON'T want parents involved.

The "Libs" want to make sure

that the schools dont raise any more anti american, right wing nut case liars like you. We dont want to raise any more govt workfare employees who use the govt and tax payers to make a living like you. We dont want to raise any more stupid gullible sheep like you. Why dont you just home school your little nazis and keep them away from normal American children? Your kids never stood a chance anyway.

But Froggie,

If someone is filming in a classroom full of young kids and the teacher how do you or the adm. knows if the person that is filming is not doing it for the wrong reasons there are petiphiles out there that would jump at the chance to film young kids. That to me is one of the many reasons why that there shouldn`t cameras in school filming classes.

But now if it is done for a teaching class in college I see no reason for not filming to show young teachers what to look foward in thier chosen field, and yes if I was a teacher I would want the parents of my students to come and watch me teach. Mitchou, and liberal I always enjoyed teachers that wanted me to ask questions on a subject that we may have been at the time.

Then let's put it this way so even a simpleton like yourself

can understand.

How would you like people videotaping you at work day after day, nitpicking everything you say and do in an effort to catch you breaking any rule, no matter how small, no matter how inadvertant, all in an effort to have you fired? Think you'd do your job very well? Think that eventually someone would find something that you did wrong, or at least something that can be interpreted as being wrong?

If you think this is a good idea, then I suggest we take this to the next logical level. Everyone will encourage others to videotape folks at work. Be sure to tape every operation done by a surgeon, just in case he/she makes some kind of mistake. Videotape teachers at Liberty University to make sure they are indoctrinating students in exactly the right brand of fundamentalist Christianity. Videotape every single soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan to make sure they aren't committing war crimes. Videotape every accountant to make sure they aren't cooking the books or misinterpreting the ledgers. By all means, let's become a nation of spies, a country of snitches. If there is anything that can immediately destroy the productivity of this country, make enemies of neighbors, and put the last nail in our economy, this would be it.

By bannedfrogg July 23, 2008 - 3:04pm

What I don't get is why you're busy making shit up about something that one of your fellow wingnuts made up. This discussion about taping in schools is somewhat nonsensical, as Sean Hannity's pipe dream is not going to happen. hatey just likes to talk shit. Remember when he was going to publish his book through his church? Um. Yeah...

"Teacher's", "they're"????????

I hate to break the news to you, but teachers actually have two doctrines, one of academic freedom, the other of professional autonomy, that you are attempting to violate by trying to blackmail them into censorship.

These doctines are incorporated into teachers collective bargaining agreements. In other words, this sleazy shit has been tried before, and the ability of administrators and school boards to do anything about individual teachers who do not engage in actual videotaped criminal activity is almost non-existent.

Blast from the Past: Downing Street Memo - July 23, 2002
by Meteor Blades
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 01:45:16 PM EDT
Six years ago today, Matthew Rycroft, private secretary to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, wrote a secret memorandum to the U.K.’s ambassador to the U.S., David Manning. The memo contained the minutes of a meeting held that same morning between Blair and a few senior foreign policy advisers. It was exposed by the Sunday Times nearly three years later. Two paragraphs stood out.

Rycroft spoke about a trip that Sir Richard Dearlove had recently taken to Washington. Dearlove, the head of the British Secret Intelligence Service or MI6, is referred to officially as "C":

C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action.

And there was this:

The Foreign Secretary said he would discuss this with Colin Powell this week. It seemed clear that Bush had made up his mind to take military action, even if the timing was not yet decided. But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbours, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. We should work up a plan for an ultimatum to Saddam to allow back in the UN weapons inspectors. This would also help with the legal justification for the use of force.

[...]
For me and others who had for various reasons resisted calls for impeachment prior to 2005, the Downing Street Memo was a turning point. Here was the kind of evidence that we had hoped would someday come to light, evidence that - together with what Clarke and O’Neill had already provided, plus the Valerie Plame affair and the lack of WMDs in Iraq - directly called into question the administration’s claims that the decision to go to war was not made until February 2003. Here was strong evidence that the President had lied to Americans, broken his oath of office and violated national and international law. Not incontestable proof, but certainly grounds for inquiry.

On June 16, 2005, spurred by the revelations in the secret memo, John Conyers held an unofficial hearing with 35 other Democrats, hearing testimony from, among others, former Ambassador Joe Wilson and former CIA analyst Ray McGovern. It was there that the prospect of a Resolution of Inquiry into impeachment was first raised.

That, of course, was 37 months ago. Much vitriolic talk about impeachment has gone down since then. But very little of it has taken place in the halls of Congress despite considerable new information.
[...]
This Friday, thanks to a long-term grassroots effort as well as the unwillingness to yield by a handful of Congressional Democrats, most notably Dennis Kucinich, impeachment will be on the table at a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee. This could and should have started in 2007. Only time will tell whether "better late than never" applies.

Anyone notice anything...missing?

Hatey and his latest sock puppets? There was simply no excuse for his meltdown and subsequent violation of the law. Now I'm not one to gloat, but WTF.
