The Brad Blog reports that "Karl Rove has threated a GOP high-tech guru and his wife, if he does not "'take the fall' for election fraud in Ohio," according to a letter sent this morning to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, by Ohio election attorney Cliff Arnebeck."

Buzzflash interviews Thomas Frank: "Maybe in theory you think that the idea of a free market is okay, but nobody's out there making the case for the other side --- that we made a wrong turn back in the 70s and 80s, and that we shouldn't have gone down the road that Ronald Reagan took us down. Nobody is making that case. Even the Democrats don't argue that anymore. So it's very hard for these issues to become something that you talk about. They're off the table. They're not up for discussion in Kansas or in many other places in America."

I have a terrible feeling that Noam Chomsky saw one of those slideshow presentations by Women Against Pornography or someone in which a whole lot of unrepresentative images are shown with commentary full of falshoods and scare words, because he's sounding just like them. Tsk.

Arnold says he'll stiff workers: "Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced last night that he will sign an Executive Order on Monday slashing the wages of over 200,000 state employees to the bare minimum. Not California's minimum wage of $8 per hour. The federal minimum wage of $6.55. Six dollars and fifty-five cents an hour."

Al Gore is fat - or, how Tom Brokaw made The Editors miss Tim Russert. Owww!

Atrios on Stupidity: "So, the recent salmonella food scares have cost the industry much more than tracking regulations would have cost them. This should have been pretty obvious, as the cost to all producers of such a scare is going to be much greater than the cost to one "bad" producer individually..."

The General asks: "Is Obama secretly Amish?"

Nice to see that the Governator can still act like a true repub

when he wants. I'm sure the state workers will be glad to accept a 18% pay cut. Maybe Arnie forgot that he can be recalled just like Davis.

Let's see if Mukasey actually DOES anything this time

Uncle Karl has had free rein on Capitol Hill for far too long...he seems to think he's beyond the reach of the law. It's time...and far PAST time...for him to be on MSM's cameras doing the perp walk.

At least this time, people are naming names. That's got to bring SOME amount of pressure to bear. We can only hope it's enough pressure in the right places.

Seeing as to how we're talking about a guy who went out of his way to request executive privilege over documents that he openely admitted in testimony were not covered by EP... and all to cover for the Bush cabal... I'm guessing "nay".

I'm more interested now in:
Let's see if Waxman will finally hold a vote of contempt for AG Mukasey this time.

I'll guess "nay" there as well, but hold out hope.

I didn't get to see the hearings today

I'm getting caught up on the span though. There was a Bush supporting shill that testified. He was pretty ridiculous.

So will this go anywhere?

I am asking anyone but the trolls. Let's ignore the spam.

My feeling is that the democrats have failed miserably in their oversight. Although I'm pleased to see what is occurring, and I hope it continues, the fact that the democrats are doing this now tells me it is for political gain and not for true oversight. And that disgusts me.

I do not trust politicians and that includes the democrats. I believe that the democrats will look to what Bush did as a precedent and continue to erode our rights. Then the republicans will continue when they return to power. The justifications from each party will differ but the end result will be the same.

I predict 50 years remain to our country before it is so altered that the constitution will no longer truly describe the law of the land.

That is my opinion. I do not like the future that I envision but I really see little that can be done after the failure fo this congress to act when it should. It suggests to me that members of both parties may well be in collusion.

Here is a thread started on Malloy's board on this topic: here

I do not see a thread on this site concerning the impeachment hearings. Not surprising considering one of Air America's hosts criticized the movement to impeach.

Which host criticized it?

Others have said they support impeachment, so I wouldn't assume that Air America as a whole is anti-impeachment - in fact, I can think of three who have said they think impeachment is appropriate.

Lionel posted on this site criticism of the articles of impeachment by Kucinich. I do not listen to Lionel but I've read posts from others that say he criticizes it on his show. Given that he made that post on this site I'm not surprised.

Oh Avedon by the way. I said that there were no posts on the subject of impeachment on this site. But I did not mean to imply that I do not like your stuff. Thanks for your posts. Good job!

In all fairness, it did appear that Avedon picked up on some of my posts regarding impeachment and was kind enough to add it in a passing blurb that found its way into the Guest Blogger threads after the start of the hearing...

I should have been faster on the draw.

I apologize. I kept meaning to post about it and getting distracted by other things.

Not so much criticized as outrightly ridiculed. But hey, who's keeping track of Lionel's sillines?
I'm not. It might mean I'd have to actually listen to him...

Well, you know....

As far as I can tell, most of the other hosts have at various points said they believed Bush/Cheney should be impeached.

And, as you must surely have guessed, I'm a Sam Seder fan.

How you makin' out? It was Six. Long. Hours. of jibber-jabber to pick through.
It seemed to me like there would be more hearings as a result of this.
Some Dems seemed hesitant, but indicated leaning in that direction.
I'm not holding my breath, but time will tell.
At least it's alive and not dying the death of being ignored.

I liked a lot of what I heard. But to tell you the truth I realized I was going to be let down in the end and I stopped watching. Not let down by the testimony but the lack of action just over the horizon.

From what I did see I especially liked the testimony that basically chastised congress for not doing it's job.

There was a new episode of Dr. Who that I had recorded so I just watched that.

By f u bush2 July 26, 2008 - 1:00am

It would seem to me that they are being excruciatingly deliberate in building the record and proceeding, so as to avoid charges of overreaction, hurrying through the process, rushing to judgment, being unfair, etc.
I could be wrong. I hope I'm not. But I get the feeling this won't be the last hearing on the subject. Too many Dems indicated a willingness to have and a desire to hold further hearings. Or, at least that's what I took from the totality of the hearing.
That said: "further hearings" won't cut it in my eyes.
But I wouldn't argue against them. I'll take what we can get... for now.
