Negotiators Agree on Farm Bill, but Putsch Vows to Veto It
House and Senate negotiators yesterday reached final agreement on a new farm bill that will spend close to $300 billion on nutrition, conservation, energy and farm subsidy programs over the next five years, but administration officials immediately announced that the Dunsel In Chief will veto it.
“This bill increases subsidies to small farmers but agribusiness, not so much at a time of record farm income for the mega farm agribusinesses,” Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer said. The negotiators “have done a disservice to our corporate farm kickback suppliers taxpayers.” And he managed to say it with a straight face!
The speedy reaction to trash bipartisan legislation and try and make Democratic politicians look bad from the executive branch put the spotlight on congressional Republican’ts, many of whom support the legislation and might be considering retirement hard-pressed to vote to uphold a veto in an election year.
Rep. Robert W. Goodlatte (Va.), ranking Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, said that he is “favorably disposed” toward the bipartisan compromise bill, but that lawmakers must decide for themselves whether to vote to override a veto. House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) indicated that he will vote against the bill, saying, “I don’t think [it] represents our best effort but it sure is a good opportunity to throw a disaster monkey wrench into things.”
[snip]
Advocates of the bill stressed that eligibility will be tightened by prohibiting anyone earning more than $500,000 from off-farm sources to participate in the farm programs. Those earning more than $750,000 from farming would also be ineligible for the automatic payments. Currently, only those with more than $2.5 million in income from all sources are ineligible. Funny how the Republican’ts try and protect the rich elite, no matter where they are in the food chain, innit?
The impact of the new eligibility limits would be modest, according to data provided by the Internal Revenue Service. In 2005, it showed 2,025 taxpayers collecting subsidies had farm income above $750,000. The tighter limits will save an estimated $620 million over 10 years, budget officials said.
“Those who say there is no reform here have not read this bill,” said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.)

Housing aid bill faces veto by Illegally Installed Drunken Cokeheaded Deserter
WASHINGTON - Democrats’ plans to help hundreds of thousands of homeowners struggling with rising subprime mortgage rates and plummeting house values could be sidetracked by President Bush’s threatened veto and the backing of many congressional Republicans.
Opponents of the plan say more prudent homebuyers and renters shouldn’t be called upon to bail out borrowers who gambled on ever-rising housing prices and lost. But, amazingly, Republican’t opponents remain silent about the ongoing bailout of the predatory lenders who made those loans.
“The American people don’t want to make their neighbor’s payment when they’re having trouble making their own,” said Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R (of course)-Texas. For some strange reason (cough), this Republican’t didn’t tell us whether the amercan people want to pay bloated CEO salaries while bailing out the lenders who made those loans.
The Democratic-controlled House on Thursday passed a homeowner rescue plan that would provide cheaper, government-backed mortgages to half a million debt-ridden borrowers and bolster an economy crippled by the housing crisis. The House approved the measure by a vote of 266-154, with 39 Republican’ts — mostly from areas suffering worst from housing woes — supporting it.
[snip]
The thing that struck me almost immediately about both of these articles - nowhere is it mentioned that pResident Screen Door On A Submarine has been vetoing Democratic Party legsilative initiatives on a constant basis ever since they regained control of the House in 2006. Nor is it reported that Senate Republican’ts are filibustering bills at a record pace.
Factoring those two factoids into the equation, Your Humble Narrator can only conclude that Smirky McWarHardon is so out of touch with reality that he can no longer differentiate between bi-partisan legislation that has cleared the filibustering Republican’t roadblock, Democratic initiatives that represent the will of the american people, and hyper-partisan Republican’t legislation promoted in order to make the Democratic politicians look bad. That, and he’s a spoiled rich kid throwing a temper tantrum because nobody’s buying his bullshit any more.

Warning:
The following link should be viewed by a mature audience only, or the immature sheeple that watch Fox news. There are images of not fully clothed protestors, so if you have a aversion to breasts and/or skin folds, you will not want to go to this link.

It looks like some one with very deep pockets is enabling these obviously mentally ill folks to act out in public.

is since Code Pink morons have been protesting the Marine recruiting center in Berkley, their recruitments have gone way up with the free publicity. Way to go PINK!

C'mon, jerry. There's nothing in this article that says recruitment numbers are "way up."

"But if events this week are an attempt by anti-war protesters to remarket their cause, the Marine recruiters in Berkeley tell FOXNews.com that Code Pink's presence outside their office has helped — not hindered — their mission.
"Ironically, it's actually helped us by putting our name out. We're now well-known. And people know who we are, and where we are, and they come in to talk to us about enlisting. They've gotten us the publicity that we could've never afforded to pay for ourselves," Wheatcroft told FOXNews.com.
"Just in the last three weeks, 10 people came in looking to apply, looking to become Marine officers, and that's much higher than normal," he said."

Here's the part you left out for some reason ...
"Wheatcroft could not give exact figures on recruiting numbers, and officials at the Marine Corps' national headquarters did not respond to repeated requests for information."
I wonder how many of those "10 people [that] came in looking to apply" did so?

Your point? The fact is many do not qualify, but the more people that come to the center, the more will enlist. It's just a matter of numbers and the Pinkies are helping. GO PINK!!

I would guess the Marines don't feel the need to talk about irrelevant people like the Pinkies. My guess is Wheatcroft is under orders and I'm surprised he said anything at all. The fact is the Pinkies don't bother the Marines and seem to provide some great entertainment. I guess this is the way to support troops huh. Kind of pathetic that they attack the very people that secure their freedom on a daily basis. The Marines at that center are showing class that the Pinkies will never achieve. If the US gets into a "Just war", will the Pinkies be rallying to get more people to join? Yeah right. Will they say "Please Mr. Marines, help us!" Better frickn believe they will. The Pinkies roll off the Marines sleeves like a warm spring shower

Whatever. That you disapprove of dissent is of no consequence to me; indeed, I hardly find it surprising. The bottom line is that there's nothing in your story that says numbers are up.

By frazzledMay 9, 2008 - 12:51pmI do think it's a shame
that they attack and deface the Marine Center, but if it's done legally, then I guess it's free speech. It doesn't seem to bother the Marines, and if the Pinkies think the Marines are leaving anytime soon, I guess they haven't read their history books about the Marines too well.

And I think it's a shame that you view peaceful assembly as "attacking" and "defacing."
It seems to me that there is no better place to demonstrate than a recruiting center. And I doubt very much that "bothering the Marines" is their intent.

Their original tactics were criminal so that's not peaceful and by law is considered attacking and defacing government property. I guess trying to get the Marines to close down the center isn't considered bothering them. That's exactly what they are trying to do, but they forget, these are Marines and are not about to retreat in the face of witches and chalk graffiti. Time for lunch.
