Statistics have a way of smashing punditry:
In hypothetical general election head-to-heads, Obama
leads McCain by slim 51 to 44 percent margin, with the public split 49
percent for Clinton to McCain's 46 percent. Against McCain, Obama does
better than Clinton with African Americans, those with college degrees
or greater education and among younger voters. Clinton, however, draws
more support than does Obama against McCain among older white voters,
white women and whites with family incomes under $50,000 a year.Against either Democrat, age could be a significant obstacle for
McCain. Only three in 10 said they were "entirely comfortable" with the
prospect of a 72-year-old newly-elected president, about half as many
as said they would be similarly comfortable with an African American or
female president.
I think people need to stop the hand wringing.

Case in point: John Poindexter. Who'd have thought he'd have any kind of future inside or outside of government after Iran-Contra? Well, he hung around as a consultant for years until the Bush administration came into office. He immediately had access to the highest levels of government once again, and used it to his huge financial advantage. Wolfowitz did OK for himself after he left, and I doubt if Rummy is on the bread lines. Seems like the only ones that are getting hurt right now are Bush opponents, such as generals and admirals that disagreed with Bush policies, especially in Iraq and Iran. Names like Shinseki, Pace and Fallon.

That's not the whole story on Iraq, but it was only a 10 minute interview and he took apart Feith's defense.

We should also shut our mouths about human rights violations and oppression in other countries. We should stop trying to spread democracy around the world too. Why? Because if we go out and prove to the world that we can't live up to the ideals of freedom, liberty, equality, democracy and fairness that we are always ranting and lecturing the rest of the world about, we show ourselves to be nothing but annoying hypocrites with a big military and a tiny mind.

away from the crack. Your own map shows so much uncertainty that it is damn near worthless, which is what you would expect this early in the game. You gave Hillary all the states marked weakly democratic, and McCain all the states marked weakly republican. In other words, you took the whole swing state equation out of play. Take Texas for example. You gave its votes to McCain, despite the fact it is listed as weakly republican. How weak is it? Well, it was reported yesterday on CNN that both Hillary and Obama are beating McCain in campaign donations there by a more than 2 to 1 margin. None of Bush's big Texas contributors have contributed to McCain. In other words, either one of them has a chance to take TX instead of McCain. I have a feeling that once the primaries are done, a united dem party will turn those swing states into solidly dem states. Virginia is another good example of a state that may well swing dem this time around.
And what about independents? In recent polls, Obama wins more of the independents if he goes against McCain, but McCain gets more if his opponent is Hillary.
I get this feeling you won't be invited to President Obama's inauguration in January. Maybe Hillary will save a spot for you at McDonalds once she has more time to spend with her Joe Sixpack best buddies. Or maybe she will be too busy switching to the repub party with Lieberman and Zell Miller by that time.

If you believe dems will be trounced with Obama, you are smoking some pretty strong stuff. Even repubs aren't in love with McCain, and the only thing that could make social conservative and christian fundies come out in big numbers for McCain is the chance to vote against Hillary. Take that away, and suddenly they don't have anything positive or negative to energize them and encourage them to come out and vote. The repubs have gone for extreme right voting blocs to win elections, and that strategy is going to destroy them this time.
Why is Obama going to lose tonight? He spent almost no time in WV, feeling that it was probably going to be a strongly red state in November. He can afford to lose WV and Kentucky, as he will win big in OR, erasing any losses in WV and KY. Something that Hillary doesn't understand (and her money woes prove it) is that you don't waste resources on places where it will bring no returns. He's saving his money for the general election, and will be able to trounce McCain in every measure there is, from money raised, to popular vote, to electoral vote, to numbers of legislators elected for their party. Yes, there will be a 1972 style trouncing in November. Wonder how the repubs will feel when they are the ones on the short end of the stick this time?

In fact, he wasn't my first choice. I was for Kucinich or Edwards, and when they dropped out, I was left with two choices. I chose Obama after not only looking at his platform and ideas, but also observing Hillary's behavior. Up until she began to get truly nasty, she had the chance to win my support and vote. In fact, I supported her all during the Clinton White House years, and in her Senate campaign days.
It's not me that has doomed the party. If anyone has doomed the party, (which I don't believe is true), then it is Hillary and her very republican campaign and ethics.

Read "Don't know much about History" by Kenneth C. Davis. There are a few quotes in there from various northern leaders and abolitionists, including Lincoln, which express the view that Blacks are mentally inferior to whites, and that the goal was not to free them and make them citizens, but to free them and return them to Africa.
I lived in a "border state" growing up in the 1960s. Although there was hostility toward Blacks there in that time, and into the 70s and 80s, since then the attitudes have changed substantially, and the society there has become far more heterogeneous and tolerant.
But from the time I can remember, my family took trips to the North, PA, NY, MI, OH etc. The attitudes I found there as a kid have not changed a whole lot to today (I now live in a civil war northern state). One of my wife's school buddies called our state "Little Switzerland" due to its segergated state outside the urban cores. After graduation she moved south to find a more tolerant culture.
I'm not saying it's impossible for Obama; he is a charismatic and dynamic speaker (he won our state handily back in March) and he can probably sway voters who are willing to look past skin color. But in key states like PA and OH, he will have a very tough time.
What needs to happen is for Shrillary to get out of the race, then go campaign for Obama in those key northern states (NY, PA, OH, IN, and yes, WV). Use all her charisma and political strength to unite the party and rally those key states to Obama. If she did that, she could write her own ticket...the Supreme Court? Secretary of State? No problem.

Examining the map they have, it shows the following:
States where both Obama and Clinton beat McCain >5%: 199 electoral votes
States where McCain beats both Obama and Clinton 5%: 150 electoral votes
In other words, so far, no matter who the nominee is, they are already only 71 votes from winning the 270 electoral votes needed. McCain is 120 votes away.
The rest:
Obama picks up 51 electoral votes in states where he beats Clinton >5%.
Clinton picks up 56 electoral votes in states where she beats Obama >5%
Now, Obama needs 20 more votes to win, Clinton needs 15. What's left?
States where Obama beats Clinton <5%: 26 electoral votes.
States where Clinton beats Obama <5%: 28 electoral votes.
At this point, either one wins.
Still outstanding are states where 26 electoral votes are at stake, and Clinton and Obama tie.
The end result? If we are to believe the site that you yourself linked, EITHER ONE of the dems would beat McCain. So stop implying that only Hillary can win against McCain. Your own source says otherwise.

This whole stupid argument of his reminds me of an old SCTV sketch. Dave Thomas played some guy on Russian TV who hosted a show called "What is Russia Bigger Than?". He would stand in front of a big cutout of Russia, and he would hold up cutouts of other smaller countries and ridicule them for being so small. It was totally hilarious!
