A Great Night

"I want to congratulate Congressman-elect Travis Childers on winning this special election. By electing Travis in this traditionally overwhelmingly Republican district, the people of Mississippi voted to end the politics of division and distraction, and bring about real change. This is the third special election in recent months that Democrats have won in traditionally Republican areas -- an unmistakable sign that Americans want to make a clean break from the failed Bush policies of the past - and are not looking for four more years of those failed policies from John McCain. I look forward to working with Travis in the months ahead to fix our economy, and make a difference in the lives of America's hardworking families."
That news is good enough, but we also got great news out of Nebraska, where netroots champion Scott Kleeb crushed all opposition in winning the primary to contest for Chuck Hagel's vacated Senate seat. Sen. Ben Nelson wanted his big business buddy Tony Raimondo to be the candidate, despite the fact that he was a Republican until the day he announced he was a candidate and that the Democrats in the Senate blocked his appointment by Bush to be the manufacturing czar because he closed plants in Nebraska and moved jobs to China.
Both of these outcomes are major victories for the Democrats and major defeats for the business-as-usual Republicans and their appeasers.
I am totally pumped by the election results tonight and could not give less of a shit about the results out of West Virginia.

The other candidates were true to their word and honored their commitments. That means a lot to me after many years of republican cheating, lying and corruption.
We REALLY need a mature, calm, honest, deliberate and articulate person for a change. I was for other candidates and had not known much about Barrack but after seeing his behavior and demeanor through out the months of attacks and cheating I have been really impressed. He is the type of person who can negotiate and earn respect from friends and foes alike internationally. Well, our country's life depends on the honesty and sincerity of our next president. Is there any doubt who has proven up to that simple request....don't lie to us?.

Not condescending, simple the truth. Obama cannot "blow off" the working class white vote, you know the ones that "cling to guns and religion". Yes, that was a mistatment and I'm sure he didn't mean that the way it came out. When you are on camera 18 hrs daily for a year you're gonna make a mistatment or two...It happens. Nevertheless, he made the statment and it's political fodder for any 527 that wants it... Just like McCain's 100 years in Iraq has been taken out of context...But, he said it, it's fodder...

It was condescending and offensive - he is a white male, after all. See, Fight's of the mindset that if you beat the dead horse beyond a bloody pulp, you continue beating it. I thought it interesting that a pretty large percentage of West Virginian's still believe that Obama shares the same, radical beliefs re: injustices to the black community as the Reverend Wright (don't they have tv's in WV??), which is exactly the mindset that Fight shares (which he claims he doesn't, but we can read between the lines) - condemn the messanger and fuck the message. Anything beyond a 30 second soundbyte is beyond their scope.

Sooooooo, anything that mentions race that is mentioned by a white guy is inherently racist. I'll just keep that little rule in mind.
Just asking, is it "racist" to quote the stats posted by CNN regarding the 2004 Presidential Election? I'm just wondering here....That IS were I got the 77% of VOTING America in 2004 happened to be white. Ut oh, I said white. Maybe I should say pigmentally deficient.... And for people of color I guess I should say "pigmentally unchallenged"....

Do you have a poll that shows what number of whites won't vote for Obama because he's black? How about a poll of whites that shows what number won't vote for McSame because of Bush? Do you even have a point to make with your polls?

Is there a segment of our society that won't vote for Obama based on his skin color. Yes, and they are morons....
That being said, in 2004 77% of the electorate was white and I'd say the bulk of them are "working class". Obama will get 90% or greater of the black vote because Dems almost always get the demographic. That demographic only makes up 11% of the electorate. Of that 77% of whites there is probably about (and this is a WAG) 2-3% that are racists and will never vote for Obama, hell, they’d likely not vote for Powell or Rice. Nothing to be done about them, they will die off in the next 15-20 years. That leaves ~74%.
Obama can't blow off that group, sure, there are members of the 74% who will vote dem no matter what Obama were to say would vote dem. Many are on this board.
Obama can't win the white house with only the black demographic and elite whites. That's not a racist statement, that's a statement of fact...
PS: Non-white, non-black voters make up an additional 10% of the electorate....
I'm totally cool with an Obama Presidency (I think he'll be very competent) but if he were to make the mistake of taking the Clintons (and I do mean both of them) as VP, he'd better watch his back, (figuratively and literally)....

You're trying to create a narrative that does not exist. Obama isn't blowing off the working class be they black or white. That's why I asked if you had some point to your poll. Are you trying to suggest that no working class voters contributed to his victories in any other states?
And this notion of "elite whites" is simply the latest of silly RNC talking points. Obama and his supporters are no more elite than McSame and his. This elitism angle will fail just as miserably as the black preacher and liberal boogeymen.
At some point you wingnuts are going to have to talk about what McSame has to offer the electorate and 4 more years isn't going to do. If you haven't learned that your negative memes aren't going to work, as strategists like Gingrich have, your party is screwed.

I agree, one cannot be elected by saying what is wrong with the other person. A candidate needs to be positive and look to the future. Obama excels in that area. JFK excelled in that area. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton BOTH excelled in that area..ALGore, GHB, GWB, John Kerry, not so much.
Do the Repubs need to go to the wood shed a term or two....OH HELL YES. We sent them to DC in 94 and they had it all after GWB won in 2000 and what did they do...Cut taxes (good thing) and increased spending (bad thing).
I hope the dems do better as you will have the House, Senate and (probably) the White House. If the dems let the power corrupt them as badly as the repubs did, they'll be gone if a few years and it'll start all over again...
As far as a diff between Obama and McCain....There isn't much.
-They both seem to support amnesty
-They both support "free trade"
-They are both green (not really a bad thing)
-They both support Isreal
-They are ONLY different on matters concerning Iraq and Iran, I believe Obama will be "OK" in prosecuting the war declared on us by Islamic Terrorists but I think McCain would be better...
-Neither can do anything about the price of gas
-Neither can "save" the housing market, the market will "save" itself...
-They are both Anti-abortion (nobody is truly pro-abortion) but Obama is pro-choice. Roe Vs. Wade will NEVER be overridden and shouldn't be..
-Neither support gay marriage (which is a shame, why should straight people be the only ones to suffer).
-Neither will pull our troops out of Iraq...
Now, other than the war, how are they THAT much different?

I guess we're moving past your pointless white working class polls ...
Seems you've pinned the flip-flopping McSame down ... something that no one else has been able to do. Congrats.
Obama has a comprehensive healthcare plan that will cover every American. McSame offers the same sort of privatization proposed for Social Security that voters so soundly rejected 5 years ago that still leaves many uninsured. Obama favors a woman's right to choose, McSame wants more ultraconservative activists like Alito. Obama favors withdrawal, McSame wants to occupy for a 100 years. Obama favors tax relief for the middle class, McSame wants to continue to borrow and spend to support Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy.
I could go on but the differences between McSame and Obama really couldn't be clearer. Following yet another RNC tact with the aid of MSM, you are trying to paint McSame as a moderate. Obama will have no difficulty exposing the lie.

What working class whites? Most of the really hard work in this country is done by non-whites for small wages. Many of it by illegal immigrants. But if you are interested I can hook you up with an employer looking for someone to pick lettuce in Yuma, AZ for about $7 an hour. Bring your sun block because it gets up to about 120F in the summer.
They could pay you more but then the "hard working" white guy making $12 an hour in the air conditioned Star Bucks would bitch about the price of lettuce.
As for the racist white people in WV we can do without them.

As an ex West Virginian (born and rasised there, escaped in '71), I have to agree with F U BUSH2. Although home to many wonderful people, including many of my relatives, this State's claim to fame is that it has lost population in every year since WW2. Leadership trends are no to be found here.
Also, racism abounds, probably more to do with their labor history, but there is a good reason why the vote in West Virginia turned out so different that the rest of the Nation.
