An Art Gallery On The Streets Of London

Popular U.K. artist Adam Neate left 1,000 of his paintings on the streets of London on Friday night and within hours they were appearing for sale on eBay. The bids ranged from £.99 to more than £1,000.
Before distributing his art for free, Neate was selling paintings for up to £43,000 at auction. He said he had no problem with others selling his work online. In an interview with the BBC he said, "I have not got anything against people putting them on eBay - and if it helps them with Christmas..."
Each of the 1,000 pictures have different forms of printing and stamping and were placed on sidewalks across the greater London metropolitan area.
Neate said to the BBC: "I like the idea you can stumble across art in any environment, not just a gallery - you can walk along the street and find a painting."

My parents are artists. I grew up with artists all around me, and a lot of pretenders, too. It's a fascinating thing to watch. Pretenders often get a lot of money because they are good con men and people are easily fooled about art. One of my daughter's friends is a pretender, someone who does variations one thing over and over and over again, no creativity, but a lot of buzz. People pay a lot for his crap which I could easily do if I could figure out what brand of glue he uses. But work that takes hundreds of hours and creative input to make is often overlooked because people are drawn to bright baubles and splashy stuff, without any taste or concept of creativity.
