California To Prepare For Sea-Level Rise

By Dorsey Shaw

The State of California got a wake-up call from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as he ordered preparations for rising sea-levels caused by climate change.

The executive order called for a study to see how much more the sea could rise and how the state should prepare after reported research found that sea levels around San Francisco rose 7 inches during the 20th century.

Schwarzenegger ordered a report by the end of 2010 saying, "The longer that California delays planning and adapting to sea-level rise the more expensive and difficult adaptation will be."

It would be nice to have a

It would be nice to have a link to what study or data Schwarzenegger was referring to.
I've noticed in just that this year the high tides on the beaches here are much higher. There is one beach I like to go to, where I could walk along the beach (albeit a narrow stretch) at high tide, but now the tide reaches nearly to the bottom of the access stairs and there is no way to walk along the beach anymore. That has happened just in the last 5 years, during good weather.

The Governator is a mixed bag. I think he's done some good for the state, as well as some bad. Perhaps it's the moderating influence of the Kennedy family.
