Daschle Accepts HHS Position
Former Senator Majority leader Tom Daschle has accepted the position of secretary of Health and Human Services. Politico has more:
Former Senator Majority leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) will be secretary of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration, a senior Democratic official said.
Daschle was also considered for health care czar in the White House, but the transition team decided he could be more effective with “Secretary” in front of his name.
“Of all the proposals that Obama wants to enact, health care requires the most input and tough negotiations and shepherding,” the official said.“No one knows the House and Senate like Tom Daschle.”
Daschle was also considered for White House chief of staff, before that post when to Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.). Roll Call first reported the Daschle move to HHS Wednesday morning.

Idiot, Obama is putting INTELLIGENT and QUALIFIED people into his Cabinet. Not what Bush did, which was to put his buddies in the Cabinet even though they had ZERO relevant experience. That alone is a huge CHANGE from the procedures of the current administration! Remember "Brownie" and the incredible job he did with Katrina? Remember Harriet Meyers, who Bush tried to nominate for the fucking SUPREME COURT?
He also said he'd put Republican(s) in his Cabinet, something Bush didn't do either!

She is a great choice. However she is very important here in AZ. We have a slight republican majority in the state legislature and she is a very popular democratic governor. I'm not sure that we would get another democrat in that office if she left. There was previously a very corrupt republican governor. Once she got in the door, she became very popular because of the good job she has done. But that doesn't mean that another dem would win after her. This is AZ after all.
But AZ is slowly shifting to blue. McCain won but Obama put up a fight. If McCAin hadn't come back here to campaign, Obama might have won.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes she is a good choice. But I hope that she does a selfless thing and stays here to help move AZ more into the blue over the next few years. And if she does, then I hope she is rewarded with an offer like that in the future.
What about the immigration thing FU?
I know Arizona has come down pretty hard on illegals lately. It seems to me that most of the pressure is coming from the Legislature and Law Enforcement. I don't know enough about Napolitanos personal position on these policies. She's not going to try to expel 13 million people as head of DHS, is she? What is your take?
Apart from that, she gets my vote.....I saw her on the web at the Health Care hearings in the Commerce Committee last week and she was great. She seems like she is a kick ass governor. Our gain would definitely be your loss.....
