Morning Roundup: Around the Web with a Race-Baiting Old Codger

By Beau Friedlander

Washington Times announces: The Blacks are coming!!! (Welcome to the overtly racist portion of the 2008 election cycle.)

Politico reports the race card is the only thing that could derail Obama now.

Meanwhile the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC poll has Obama even more "aheadier."

The Detroit Free Press reports that economy trumps race along the 8 Mile.

Bloomberg reports: Yen up, Iceland down.

I love this post by tremayne at Open Left: Republican elites can't stand that America is not as racist as they are.

The Christian Science Monitor on McCodger going negative in the homestretch.

MyDD's Natasha Chart maps out Palin and the media and, yes, an African American got called "boy."

Spencer Ackerman (aka Attackerman) over at Firedoglake posted a new ad from the McCain camp that makes Obama sound like an angry high school teacher.

Bob Herbert over that the Angry--er, I mean, Gray--Lady says it's not about the economy stupid! It's about jobs!!!

In case you missed it, Granny Doc at Daily Kos recounts Peggy Noonan's hugely important observation on last night's Hardball. Speaking of the McCain ticket she said, "They are not big enough for the moment."

The Climate Change Committee says the UK must end all fossil fuel use in 20 years.  (The Guardian)

Joshua Holland does some economic bubble hopping over at Alernet arguing that we'll hit another crisis soon.

California just surpassed Massachusetts in the gay marriage department.

The Financial Times has Lehman's Dick Fuld on the Hill wondering aloud: Why AIG and not Lehman? (Answer: because the latter had a least a little bearing on regular people. Ugh.)

The Washington Post's Dana Milbank says Palin makes pitbulls look cuddly.

Folks see with great clarity the lack of character and merit

rife through the McSame-Palin ticket.

Few do not recall the cowardly way McShame allowed Bush to tarnish his family in 2000. That he would later fawn over the disgusting Bush is not to be forgiven.

Palin is his three-headed monkey; a sideshow to draw attention and maybe a few bucks. She's grown tiresome and boorish.

Solve America's problems? Spawned and nurtured by the G0P? Not a chance.

It is always about the money.

What do you mean

"Welcome to the overtly racist portion?" John McSame has been running ads touting him as "the REAL American we need..." and showing Jolson-like face blackened photos of Obama since before Obama was the Democratic apparent nominee. His entire campaign has been about (wink, wink) old fashioned racism. The only thing he has not done to date is run a "Harold, call me!" ad (a la Harold Ford) with a white blonde bombshell, subliminally telling American men that Obama wants to rape your wife.

Repeat?

I love the following post. I thought it deserved another look.

As ought to be apparent to everyone by now
there is no such thing as a Republican intellectual.
When Coulter, Limbaugh and Will are the best you got, you're in deep doodoo.

I'm not all that fond of universal sufferage myself. Honestly, I think that anyone who believes that the world was created in 6 days 6500 years ago is just too damned stupid to be allowed to vote, or attend law or medical school, or God forbid teach my children and grandchildren.

However, as Vidal will point out at times, it beats anything else. It took 28 years, but Americans are finally getting it.

I just hope the McCain bullshit express doesn't derail things too much. The Swiftboat stuff was dog shit from the word go, but enough voters bought it to give us 4 more years of evil incarnate. No one ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter.

George Will is actually a very sharp dude.

Unfortunately he shills for the criminal enterprise known as American conservatism.
