Sarah Palin Wanted To Ban Books From The Library
I'm just shaking my head. This kind of blatant attempt at censorship enrages me. Sure her base loves it though. I just scoped the article, but she does not go over well from what I can see.
Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

By houndogSeptember 2, 2008 - 12:48pmSarah Palin (aka Bitches be Crazy!)
There has to be an ulterior motive with Palin's selection as VP. She is not the best qualified person for the job by far; even Romney would be a much more sensible choice as a leader. I'm sure the Neocons needed an empty-headed puppet like Bush they can control, once McCain suddenly passes away.
McCain's greatest virtue is that he is not Obama. All these so-called Conservatives are supporting him solely for that reason. If Obama were Republican, all these right wingers would lining up to suck his dick and proclaim him the second coming of Reagan. Look at how they were kissing up to Lieberman (formerly 'Loserman') at the convention. It's not about ideology, it's about being on "Their Team".
The stories about her Mongoloid baby don't add up either.

she's done it all herself. I could care less if she was a woman or man, dem or repub. Her abuse of power is indefensible, except to repubs, who look upon it as a badge of honor.
As for the ridiculous talking point that she has more experience than Obama, you can put that one to bed. It has been hilarious watching McCain's handlers try (and fail miserably) to point out any of her decisions. She is an empty vessel that repubs are trying to claim is overflowing with knowledge and experience.
I'm not afraid of women...I'm rather fond of them. Of course, I like to make an exception in your case. It's hard to be fond of someone who combines such arrogance and ignorance in one package. And you're about as fearsome as Pee Wee Herman....but nowhere near as funny!

She was mayor of a town with about 8,000 people. Obama organized more people than that just in the South side of Chicago. And Governor of Alaska isn't exactly a monumental job. The whole population of Alaska is about a sixth of the population of Chicago. You go ahead and vote for the insane old guy and the vindictive woman, you were going to anyway. But don't think that the disenchanted Hillary supporters are going to flock to McCain just because Palin is on the ticket. She is antithetical to everything Hillary worked for.
She took on Republicans and Democrats in Alaska.
She took on her sister's ex-husband and fired the person who wouldn't fire the ex-husband.
It's got nothing to do with her being a woman. It's got everything to do with her being bad for America.

There is no factual basis for that urban legend. "3 reporters from Arizona who insisted on anonymity".
How convenient.
Repeating this unsubstantiated and unsubstantiatable crap (3 guys in a bar - talking - all of sudden one of them says "hey guys, remember 16 years ago John called his wife a c***? Hey let's call up that guy doing the new bio - he's looking for nasty unsubstantiaed dirt to help sell his boo< so this one will be good for a few free drinks. Let's just tell him he c*** use - ooops - "can't" use our names because we are so courageous and brave".) is just nasty and misogynistic. There is no, repeat, no evidence that this ever happened, no way of verifying and just shows how desperate some people are to demonize those they don't agree with.
How would you react to someone stating "according to 3 reporters who asked to remain anonymous, 4 years ago when Obama was running for Senator his wife discouraged him - he then called her a (fill in the blank)"?
The fact that you can google dozens of references to this without any substance just shows how susceptible people are to swallowing bullshit as long as someone sprinkles a little of their favorite partisan sauce on it.
Am I too "sensitive" to swallow bullshit? Yeah, guess I am. This is as bad as reepers and their "Obama is a muslim" crap. Why do you expect them to knock it off if we indulge in the same tactics? I will not take partisan cheap shots from either side as acceptable. It's called a "principle".
"A new biography about the GOP Presidential nominee, The Real McCain by Cliff Schechter, reveals a disturbing incident in which a hot-headed John McCain humiliated his wife in front of campaign aides and the press with a monumental blow-up. According to the book, "Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, 'You're getting a little thin up there.' McCain's face reddened, and he responded, 'At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c--t.' [EXPLETIVE IS NOT DELETED OR MODIFIED IN THE BOOK] McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days."

Would describe myself as a Social Progressive, defense & fiscal conservative, Obama supporter (since day 1 - unlike many on this board)
Detest the Clintons almost as much as GWB. Few things are worse for our system than corruption at the highest levels.
Despise and seek to ridicule unmercifully bloggers who constantly spew unfounded hate propaganda (as opposed to legitimate fact based criticism), usually accompanied by inarticulate gutter cursing.
A strong supporter of women's rights - particularly the right to disagree with my views without being called horrible things.
I have learned a lot on this blog from all who participate with links to good sources, reasoned arguments and especially those who have a sense of humor. It is readily apparent who they are, but sometimes they lapse. As do I - no one's perfect.
Advice - don't give up your principles - recognize that you are outnumbered, and always, always try to stick to facts and try to have some fun along the way.

Many of those inspectors thought the US was going to find something (although they thought it was too early to tell for certain).

Yep, I'd much rather be associated with the guy that makes a tasteless joke and looks dumb than the people that feel it's acceptable to call a marine a war criminal or spit on a veteran. Funny thing is that these people claim that it's about the American casualties and how much they care about the troops, but most of them never ask any veterans how they feel about it or only base their opinion on the veterans that are solidly on the anti-war side without ever examining the statistical evidence. Interesting.

who the hell is she to tell other teens & women how to abstain from sex or what to do if they should become pregnant ? The only difference between Palin's daughter & the average teen that gets pregnant is Palin is going to foot her daughter's bills & support the baby. How many 18/17 yerar olds do you know of legally earn enough to money to support ababy & themselves ?
Palin's daughter would not even be an issue if republicans were not such hypocrites pretending they are the party of ethics, morals & values. The republicans stand on a soap-box & preach from the puplit then come off as the biggest hypocrites when one of their own is exposed in a scandal. The republicans should just admit they have gays, lesbians, bisexuals, abortions & corruption within their party just like everyone else. The stupid republican hypocrites are too stupid to admit they have flaws.
I suggest Sarah Palin, ( SHUT UP ! ) & clean up her own backyard before telling someone else how to live.

"Your" is the second person possessive, meaning "belonging to you." As in "Hatey, YOUR posts are all a bunch of bullshit spam."
"You're" is a contraction for "you are," as in "Hatey, YOU'RE a cowardly ignorant spammer."
Jesus H. Christ, I knew the difference in second grade.

By LiberalIconoclastSeptember 3, 2008 - 2:06amYou apperantly don't understand someone trying to live
a just and moral life. Just because someone fails to be perfect, at all times, does not make one a hypocrite, it makes them human. What you are saying is that Palin should have advocated pre-martial sex, and under age sex, to avoid being called a hypocrite. Try having some understanding instead of being so judgmental.

By momofukuSeptember 2, 2008 - 3:01pmNo, it is complete hypocrisy.
The Republicans call themselves the party of "family values". They try to say liberals have no family values. Then we find out all the perversion going on mostly among Republicans.
The "family values" of Republicans are molesting lil boys, bathroom gay sex, and taking drugs with gay hookers among other perversions.
The Republican motto is
Do as I say, not as I do.

By getmad54September 2, 2008 - 4:02pmThere are usually loopholes in those laws
A typical loophole in the "statutory rape" law allows for an affirmative defense if the difference in ages between the two is less than a certain amount; as an arbitrary example, if the girl is 16 and the man is 22, he can be charged with statutory rape, but if he's only 19, there's just three years' difference between the two, and the "statutory rape" charge gets thrown out.
He should have kept it in his pants; she should have held the aspirin between her knees. The parents of BOTH the kids should have been more strict and more observant in the kids' actions, and should never have left them unsupervised. But failing that, he should have had the brains to use a condom, or she should have looked into a diaphragm or pills, and so on and so on ad nauseam. It's very, very clear to all concerned that the "abstinence-only" approach does not and will never work, so it's time to clue kids into ALL the available options.

By nonexistent manSeptember 2, 2008 - 4:10pmI get so confused
I get so confused on the statutory rape laws, I'm glad you said loopholes, So if someone does not have the right lawyer, I'm going to assume that a 18 year old with a 17 year old , can still be charged with , statutory rape.

By getmad54September 2, 2008 - 4:51pmNope
Statutory rape only applies to an adult having sex with a minor. the law assumes that minor cannot give legal consent to an adult. You can imagine how complicated that would be with 2 minors. Technically, it would be stat rape from both sides.
Forcible rape, however, is completely another matter.

By f u bush2September 2, 2008 - 5:07pmBecause in Georgia
16 years old is the age of legal consent. I should have clarified that it all depends on what the definition of "minor" is - it is judged to be the legal age of consent, which is a state-specified age.

By houndogSeptember 2, 2008 - 5:14pmThe laws vary from state to state, re: age of consent
and difference's between ages. Most, if not all states do define a person under 13 or 14 years of age, sexually off limits. Unless the partner is roughly the same age. A sixteen year old and an eleven year old is pushing most states limits. As is a 12 vs 17. Some states allow consent between minors at 14, some don't allow consent at all. Most states do not press the issue if its consensual and the parties are 17/18.
