Yesterday, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments from the attorneys for both former Alabama governor, Don Siegelman, as well as former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy, about why the corruption convictions against the two should be overturned. The three-judge panel focused on three main issues during the proceedings – was the jury tainted by misconduct, was there enough evidence against Siegelman and Scrushy to convict them of bribery, and was there enough evidence to convict Siegelman of obstruction of justice. The answers to those questions are obvious to anyone who has looked into the matter. Siegelman was a political enemy of Karl Rove, and evidence shows that he was targeted because of that. Unfortunately, this evidence was not admissible during this hearing. The judges have not said when they might release their decision. If you’ve been living in a cave for the last year and a half and aren’t familiar with the Siegelman story, I advise you to check out Raw Story investigative journalist Larisa Alexandrovna’s work on the issue, which you can find at Raw Story dot com.
