Today on Doing Time - Thursday July 24th
Republicans want to drill. Democrats want to conserve. And everyone is terrified of appearing impotent in the face of high oil prices. Congressman Peter Defazio (D-OR) will help us sort out all the myriad gas price reduction bills on the Hill now. Thing is, Congress pretty much is impotent in the short term so … watch out for some potentially terrible legislation.
Also on the Hill … if the housing bill is confusing you, or if you had no idea there even was a housing bill, then listen to Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) explain the meat of the complex legislation. We want to know, with a skeptical furrowed brow, why all the housing industry lobbyists seem so happy about it. Isn’t that a bad thing? But Bush was against it, so … something is up.
This “relief” bill comes as a personal story that exemplifies the dangers of debt is making small headlines. Here’s the story about the mom who killed herself to prevent her house from going into foreclosure. Wow.
On a more, and perpetually, hopeful note, Barack Obama gave a thumping speech to tens of thousands (unofficial count) of supporters in
Plus McCain can’t catch a break, Bush’s sneaky push for workplace toxins, frenemies, gays in the military and much much more …

Why is Ron Kuby worried?
Seems silly to me that Ron is "WORRIED" about Obamas speech. Only a republican would be worried about Obama and his world tour. What I would really be 'WORRIED" about is if John McCain becomes president....McCain made a comment about his concern of the Iraq/Pakistan border. My concern and worry is the fact that Iraq and Pakistan DON"T share a border and that John McCain doesn't know that!!!!! We need someone with a brain to lead this country and electing John McCain will be the same ignorant leadership that we've been suffering through for the past 8 years. NOW! That's something to really 'WORRY' about.
It's easy to be brave from a distance.

By anny b.July 24, 2008 - 3:36pmhow big is that blanket?
Yesterday afternoon you discussed potential " blanket pardons" by Bush at the end of his term.
" how broad is the presidential pardon power?"
" you can't be pardoned for future crimes"
" pardons only apply to FEDERAL offences"
IS DELIBERATELY MISCONSTRUED PRE WAR INTEL a FEDERAL OFFENCE?
I'd appreciate if you can expand the discussion.
CAN A GENERAL PARDON FOR ALL SINS BY AN ADMIN OFFICIAL BE GIVEN?
OR do you have to describe the sin it a litle more in issuing the pardon blanket?
let's say clear and concrete evidence comes to light that someone like Dick Cheney was guilty of deliberately misconstrued prewar intel.
is there a blanket BIG enough to protect Mr. Cheney?
IF SO, IS THIS COUNTRY STILL BASED ON THE RULE OF LAW?
or are some people above the law?
THANKS

If Bush pardons Cheney, my hunch is that he is free and clear. But you know, Cheney will have to watch his back every time he leaves the country. International law rules.

I think the possiblity of " deliberately misconstrued prewar intel " by members of this admin is one of the most critical questions facing our nation.
Over four thousand dead American soldiers... not to mention all the ruined lives of the relatives.
To think that Cheney could be pardoned for this..
... no matter how strong the evidence may be...
... is really outrageious ..
IRAQ.. no 9-11 connection... no WMD's ... the intel over time is proved to be grossly wrong..
.. grossly wrong .. in the direction which HUGELY benefited the closest friends of the VP.
... just coincidence?...
.. why no senate hearings ....
.. instead we know that the Rocket's wife used HGH for her SI photoshoot.
.. is this democracy in action?

I have found adults play the frenime game too.. I think it is mainly the social networkers trying to one-up everyone else.. I believe most who play this game do so fior personal gain, at the expense of others..
KUBY, Of course your daughteer doesnt want to talk to you abiout anything (nada, zip, etc).. Because (from earlier shows) I gleened you are really uptight about a lot of stuff.. I do have a daughter.. and if you want to be part of her life (or at least less lied to in conversations) you need to help guide.. lead by example.. become yourself what you want the world (and your daughter) to be.. When I hear you talk about your daughter, I feel authoritarian tendencies (my feelings is this causes more problems than it solves)..

I'm Fed up with Rush Limbaugh's Operation: Chaos influencing the Texas, Ohio and Indiana primaries, So I'm mounting "Operation: Barr Tab," asking Air Americans to contribute to Bob Barr's Presidential campaign. Barr may not have a chance in Hell, but Barr may get McCain votes in Helena (Georgia). Check out the whole argument:

I agree.. I'm fed up with Mr. Chaos also..
Ron... I know you want to put the 'New Yorker ' cover to rest. but you made a great point last week after seeing the NY Times article about this. The cartoon was missing the thought bubble. May i suggest the New Yorker reprint the same cartoon, a little smaller within a big thought bubble around it. Underneath and generating the bubble should be Rush and Sean.
