Well, this one is clever. The Israelis are dropping leaflets all over Gaza, inviting Palestinians to call a special phone number (anonymity guaranteed), to report the presence of Hamas in their area.
Cool. Like McGruff, the crime-fighting dog. Unlike McGruff, however, the Israelis have demonstrated that they will bomb and shell any location where Hamas is reported, making it unlikely that anyone will call to say Hamas is in my building, or on their block. But if it is true that Hamas wants to maximize civilian casualties for propoganda purposes, something of which they stand accused, then all Hamas has to do is provide false reports and then "BOOM" goes the kindergarten.
Everyone wins (except the kids). Hamas gets the propoganda victory and Israel gets to kill more civilians (not that they need much help here).
In New York, the cops are not even permitted to stop and frisk a suspect based upon an anonymous call.? In Gaza, it can be a death sentence.?

You can argue that the response could have been timed differently or done differently. Those are legitimate issues. But it is not a David v. Goliath situation. Israel consists of 4 million jews surrounded by hundreds of millions of arabs. It has no good options in fighting Hamas that I can see. It is also our strongest ally. There is a minor difference in the fact that it's not like the Mexican people are being killed by the hundreds by a military force with overwhelming power pushing through the area. I would like to think that if suddenly a far superior military started rolling through Mexico the US would allow families looking to escape the carnage access. Point being that I'm not sure you can consider it a double standard as the circumstances are WAY different.

Why should another country have to take on Israel's outcasts? If we wanted to chase all the Native Americans out of the US, should Mexico be criticized for refusing to accept them? They have enough problems of their own, just because most of their citizens are part Indian doesn't mean they have a duty to accept the Native Americans. The logic of that argument is completely lacking. Egypt has a high unemployment rate, a high rate of poverty, and a lot of political problems. In fact, the small Egyptian population pretty much left Gaza and went to mainland Egypt when the Israelis took over. The present population was pushed out of Israel into the Gaza strip. The designation Arab is a pretty loose construct. People call themselves Arabs that are not related ethnically at all. The only thing they have in common is language and the history of being conquered by the Arabs of Saudi Arabia (or by people they subsequently conquered...a domino effect). They could be black or brown or white. Arabs, by the way, have many different religions, even though the majority of them are Muslim. My late brother in law was an Arab and born in what is now Israel. He called himself Palestinian. He was Baha'i.
