Oscar-winner and longtime political activist Sean Penn arrived in Cuba this weekend with the hopes of interviewing Fidel Castro.

According to TMZ, Penn is writing a story for Vanity Fair magazine on how Obama's election has affected Cuba and Cuban-American relations.

TMZ reports: "Sean's rep tells TMZ even though the meeting is possible, there is no appointment scheduled and no current plan to chew the fat with the dictator."

According to the AFP, the local (and government-controlled) television network aired a report that "showed Penn walking in the town of Nueva Gerona on the Isle of Youth, accompanied by Cuban painter Alexis Leyva."
