Every year, tens of thousands of albatross chicks die from a diet of human trash, fed to them by their parents who collect the debris as they fly over the heavily polluted Pacific Ocean. These photos were taken on Midway Atoll--a "tiny stretch of sand and coral" in the middle of the North Pacific, which also happens to be one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries--by photographer Chris Jordan. Warning: these images may be disturbing.

From Jordan's website:

These photographs of albatross chicks were made just a few weeks ago on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

You'll have to forgive the racist.

In his hurry to avoid thinking about the consequences of or accepting partial responsibility for his human actions resulting in the death of life, he was quick to avoid discussion on the topic and target an attention-grabbing headline instead.

It's but one of the ways a lower life form can make himself feel superior to another.

I think by now, we have seen on a lot of threads that the title is an attention-grabber that has little or nothing to do with the article. Some dimwit at AAR sees and article, and thinks, "Gee, this is kind of a dull article. Let's see what I can do to jazz it up. Maybe say something outrageous that isn't even in the article". Nothing in the actual article said the birds were murdered. I'm thinking the AAR title wizard is a refugee from Faux Noise.

Sadness

What's unbelievable is that we are killing this planet and we are destroying other speices.

That's funny, I didn't see the word "murder" anywhere in the article. It was just pointing out the incredibly sad fact that our trash is killing animals in one of the most remote regions on Earth.

Wow, so now killing birds is considered murder. Unbelievable.
