We have even more CLOUT than our vote!!Today, I celebrated Harlem Week with a visit on the subway to 125th Street. I visited the Adam Clayton Powell Office Building, and after clearing elaborate security, I rode the elevator up to the third floor to see fellow members of the N.A.N. there. I noticed a very obvious fire/safety/security violation on the third floor near where my freiends were gathering. I saw a blocked fire exit. Two important people should have not let this happen in my view, or were obligated under New York State Department of State criminal regulations to avoid obvious danger-the property manager, and the Mayor of the New York City. The blocked fire exit I observed, was set up by undirected workmen, who had set up the facility, absent the property manager, for N.A.N. whom had 'rented' the space . It was a public event. I felt afraid for my own life, and second for the safety of my friends, and all others visiting this beautiful office. I was mad.      I safely exited the building, and attempted to phone the office, for information. Banks that provide cash, were not open for telephone change on Saturday. This put undue pressure upon vendors on whom I was forced to impose, in a crowd, and upon myself. The phone I dialed on the street, fronting the State Office Building malfunctioned repeatedly, and for different reasons. I called 'repair'. My evidence, I reported, was that I had 'lost' $1.50 and had no satisfaction. The staff response was a stiff questioning as to whether I was aware of what company's phone I had in my hand, which I did not pick or choose. I was answered, that the repair would not be recorded, because my issue was $1.50, and that further questioning was required by the 'Department', of which I had no previous kinowledge.       Has Harlem ever been safe, and accessible? Isn't now. It should be. And I feel that before I hung up on the corner, the Customer Service Rep. was well aware of my CLOUT, and that my telephone should be repaired, and that money is ONLY a reminder of the great things we make and do as Americans!!!!
