Howard Zinn: "We Have To Decide Not To Be A Military Superpower" (AUDIO)
Wednesday November 4, 2009 9:16 a.m.
What do we need to do as a country to extricate ourselves from the various messes we're in? Lionel puts that question to renowned author and activist Howard Zinn and Howard Zinn doesn't fail to deliver. This man is an American treasure whose bravery and intellect are without peer. He is a treasure. Sui generis of the first order.

I had the pleasure to see Howard Zinn in Oakland, CA at the performance of the "people's voices". He's a soft spoken and humble man who has worked ceaselessly throughout his life for what he believes in: justi ce for the little guy. His history books should be given a voice in the American schools of today. I just love this man.
We are not the world superpower.
The World Superpower is the group of humans who were able to convince a majority of Americans that two jet airliners knocked down the World Trade Center.
When they have used Our Country up they'll just use up the next one they can control the media of.
Will Friday ever get here? I need to ventilate1

Lionel,
America doesn't have to decide to stop being a military superpower. That decision has been taken out of our hands already by the economic crisis, which only makes sustaining the world's most expensive military even more unaffordable. In addition, the world apparently never got the PNAC message that we were to remain the sole superpower on the globe, and nations like China and India are increasing their military power. China, especially, can afford to spend as much as it likes, as our spending sprees at Walmart and in our foreign wars have been financed by China, and they are now using our own money against us to build a large and modern military, among other things.
Great Britain decided to dismantle its empire at the end of WWII because they had been economically devastated by two world wars, and could no longer afford to keep its vassal states. The US is now in the same position, but I doubt if we will withdraw from the world superpower role with as much grace as the UK.
