No Extrapolation, No Message, No Partisan Side To This Tragedy (AUDIO)

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is a nut and acted like a nut. That's it. No extrapolation, no message. Nothing. Nada. And Lionel says that no matter what the Boeotians at Faux News say, his Muslim name means nothing. What was Timonthy McVeigh? Jordanian? Lionel thinketh not. Moreover he lists what this issue really means and doesn't. Don't read too much into this, but while we're talking about it, just remember what the Army is really about: killing people and blowing stuff up.

My assumption is, these folks really think that they are at war. And, as we all know, in war there are no rules. That's the scary part. If they're not simply killing for the joy of it, then they apparently think that they are indeed slaughtering for the good of the collective (them) .. kind of like that day in 1945 when Mr Truman told the pilot to fly to Latitude: 34° 23' North, Longitude: 132° 27' East and ..
No extrpolation? Don't be silly.
If Muslim kills Americans, he's a nut.
If American kills Muslim, he's helping us win the war.
Extrapolation: America is the land of hypocrisy.

While I certainly agree with your sentiments on stopping bullying, I think we'll see that Hasan's rampage had nothing to do with bullying. More likely, it will turn out that the man had some mental problems, as no sane person would go on a shooting rampage like that. What triggered it? Perhaps the fact that he was finally being sent to fight against fellow muslims, perhaps something else. In the meantime, I'm sure the media will ply us with pointless speculation, wild theories and outright lies to keep us entertained.
I read on another blog that this guy went to Virginia Tech as did Cho, the guy who shot up that school. Another thing they had in common is that they were both bullied. The Killeen shooter, after 9/11, was repeatedly called a "camel jock" by his red-blooded Amercan buddies in the service, because of his name.
Now, the right-wing folks who need an easy answer will accuse anyone giving relevance to this fact of condoning the killings. So, I'm not condoning the killings. But--bullying has been identified as a *cause* of gun violence in high schools and middle schools and it's an underlying cause here. Anyone with a trace of empathy can understand what it must have felt like to be a pariah every day because of your name.
So he finally had enough of wearing the name and started playing the game. It's such an oft-told story. So, why don't we stop the bullying? Our failure to do so is a sad comment on American culture in general, and if the body count hasn't opened our eyes yet, nothing is likely to change in terms of teaching our children the importance of respect for others.
"Boeotians " indeed! Thank goodness for Wikipedia.
Twelve more dead. Words do not do justice to the pain the parents and others will have to live with. I think how would I feel if I were in their shoes; I cry for them, I cry for me.
I have to wonder what was in this man's heart. We've been in Iraq and Afganistan now for 7+ years. Seven years of anti-muslin talk. Yes, there are the sane voices who remind us over and over that all Muslins are not terrorists; to believe otherwise would be ignorant. Think about the press "Muslins" get: suicide bombers, throwing acid in the face of shool girls, extreme and cruel punishment for contrary beliefs or social behavior. It's hard not to hate; but hate is lazy; hating rejects complexities.
Major Hasan had to be a conflicted man. Ironic that he was a psychiatrist. Perhaps the military should have considered the strain it would put on a Muslim man in the military dedicated to bombing the hell out of his fellow Mulims' countries. In the end he chose a side.
Damn, George W. Bush, Cheney and the rest for opening this Pandora's box of hell. May they rot in that place for all eternity; the sooner the better.
According to the AP a few minutes ago, the gunmans screamed "Allahu Akhbar!" as he opened fire. "God is Great" in Arabic. You may want to withhold your evaluation that "there is no terrorism" or Muslim involvement here for a few minutes at least. Let the investigation run its course before you jump to conclusions. Remember, former HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson stuck his foot in his mouth up to his knee when he claimed that there was no terrorist intent involved in the anthrax attacks in October 2001.
Mind you, I am not taking the Faux Noise approach and suggesting that we should fear all people with Middle Eastern sounding names. Just suggesting that we all see where the facts lead us before forming any conclusions. You are correct to point out that McVeigh's act was first rumored to be Muslim terrorism which was quickly dispelled when he was caught.
