Today on Lionel - Thursday May 22nd.
Guests?
We don’t need no stinking guests!!!
FROM THE ENDLESS CAMPAIGN
John McCain is narrowing
down his choices for VP. No real surprises – it’s a bunch of wacky
conservatives, each loveable in their own way. Apparently, McCain requires that
his potential VPs be organ donors and be under the age of 65. Are we joking?
Yes.
But there’s nothing funny
about this
headline – ouch. Looks like the national attention span is…ooh, look: something shiny.
Oy vey! Jews
in Florida have their doubts about Barack Obama. If we can’t count on the
Jews to vote for the black guy, we might be in trouble. On the upside, more and
more writers and pundits put Obama at the top of
any Democratic ticket.
IN THE MELANGE
Ellen
Degeneres invited John McCain to her decidedly gay wedding. After his
amazingly awkward response, Ellen whipped out her famous girl-on-girl charm and diffused the situation. But all the jokes in
the world won’t make this
issue go away – or this
one. Some
cyborgs see benefits to allowing gay marriage and increased gay rights. On
the other hand, here’s a Fox News
piece that seriously tackles the question of whether or not
homosexuality is “natural”. Gulp. We’re in trouble, folks. Back to you, Ellen.
A former Guantanamo
detainee says he wasn’t “Water-Boarded” – he was “Water-Treated”, a method
of physical interrogation that is just as vicious but sounds more like a spa
treatment. The point is, CIA officials have once again found a way to dance
around the concept of torture and manipulate the meanings of words. Damn,
they’re good.
Still think God doesn’t exist? Hey Christopher
Hitchens – explain
this!
This
viral video is too long and ultimately kind of disappointing. 1.3 billion people can be wrong.

Where are the articles on Obama's uphill fight to win over the Hispanics?
Where are the articles on Obama's uphill fight to win over the Blacks?
Where are the articles on Obama's uphill fight to win over the Native Americans?
Where are the articles on Obama's uphill fight to win over the Irish?
Where are the articles on Obama's uphill fight to win over the Poles?
The United States is a melting pot. There are all kinds of different groups here.
From where comes this constant media obsession with just one and only one of the ethic minorities in the political landscape?
The old lie that Palestine was dry desert waiting for a people is just that – a lie.
The following clip is for all people to see the Beauty of the Palestinian People before they were ethnically cleansed and murdered and made into refugees:

By Michael BuchananMay 22, 2008 - 9:56amGay marriage is radio-active
Forgive me if I sound too preachy, but I don't think that you understand how politics work. Any Democrat who embraces this hot potato is doomed! Is that what you want? Let me ask you, "Do you think four more years of the same Republican policies will be kind towards gay rights?" I'll answer for you: NO.
I can see it right now, black man running for president and he loves "the gays." He would sink faster than the Titanic.
The polls have shown for years, that young Americans are more sympathetic towards gay rights. The problem is that not enough of them vote and consequently we must wait until they grow up and start voting to see the change that you and I want. Until then, we got a whole lot of "old white folks" (who vote in droves) who will never vote for someone (especially a black man) standing on a "gay" platform.
They might hold their noses and pull the lever for a black man but not for a black man who is overtly "Pro-Gay."
Change is slow my friend (unless of course one party controls the House, the Senate and the Presidancy) but change is'a coming.

By DetroiterMay 22, 2008 - 10:45amMaybe you can explain why we as democrats always choose
candidates that are so weak, that they can't compete with creationist?
Do you have any thoughts on that? Wouldn't a fighter be something new? We've tried pleasing everyone while pleasing no one. We keep losing.

By Michael BuchananMay 22, 2008 - 10:56amI can't.
It bothers me too. I wish the Democratic leadership would grow a pair.
But that still doesn't change the fact that the "gay" issue is radio-active. This election is much too important to risk defeat in November. The Democrats have a good shot at the White House and securing a solid majority in the House and Senate.
Change is alot easier when you control all of the levers of government (you can see what the Bush administration accomplished in just eight years). It is crutial that Democrats win; then and only then can they begin to undo all of Bush's failed policies, appoint sane judges and turn this country around for the better.
Change (for the better) will come, but believe me, nothing positive will happen in this country until Progressive Democrats get elected first.

By DetroiterMay 22, 2008 - 11:17amWhat makes a democrat progressive?
He must have progressive values and positions. Supporting the idea of states rights over equality is NOT progressive and will not win progressive voters.
Not if I can help it.

By Michael BuchananMay 22, 2008 - 12:09pmMcCain...
is not stiff? PLEASE. He has no competition on the right because he already is the Republican nominee! He doesn't have to watch what he says as much as Clinton or Obama who have to constantly walk on egg shells because the slightest gaff could derail their entire campaign. Just wait until the Democratic Primary is over, you will see the chosen Democrat (whomever he or she will be) warm up in front of the cameras (even "stiff" Barack Obama).

By MikeEmmMay 22, 2008 - 11:22amCan American's conserve?
NO. One good indicator is how few and how little American's save.
This country needs a leader who has the guts to tell the American people how it really is.
We need to sacrifice.
