STATEMENT OF CHARLIE KIREKER, CHAIR & MARK GREEN, PRESIDENT, FOR AIR AMERICA MEDIA
Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.
Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company.
We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America. We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America’s growth in the future.

to replace her. Now, maybe people might start to listen to this station. LOL

I'm glad she is gone. She was my least favorite host. She was horribly rude to her callers, she would reiterate the same point ad nauseum and she was terribly self-involved. I enjoy listening to Bill Press and Thom Hartmann. From time to time I am even amused by the Stephanie Miller show. I think it is okay for a host to support a particular candidate, but her sexist remarks put her on par with Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly. What she said is anti-thetic to liberal or progressive thought. All of her fans who approve of what she said consider that it is like a host that supports Hillary calling Obama the n-word. I will give her credit for doing research and having lots of facts and information at her fingertips. Her style was irritating to me and I would find myself preferring to listen to the conservative station so that the person I was irritated with was also on the other side of the political spectrum. Her style was very reminiscent of Dr. Laura--callers never knew if she would blast them or not, even callers that agreed with her would get her nasty attitude. Good Riddance!

You may not appreciate Randi's style. But there is no denying that she gets through to people. Randi's listeners are more than just "fans"... I consider her to be one of my many teachers, not one of which have been perfect. When I was ready to pull my head out of the sand, I am grateful that Randi was there.

I'm not happy about the way this has worked out, but I don't miss her either. I quit listening some time ago.
I don't think she has the intellect to go toe-to-toe with those who disagree with her, which is why she always talks over callers who disagree before they can make their points, and usually just hangs up on them. Sometimes she even slams callers who are trying to agree with her.
Furthermore, I've noticed a huge increase in the size of her ego since she first joined AAR. Everything is about her now. The last time I listened to her she spent the whole hour complaining about the fact that other hosts had mentioned that the Puerto Rico primary might actually be important this year, and they didn't credit her with saying it first - as if she invented it. That was the last straw for me.

I thought Air America was different, a radio that didn't present views along strict party alliegances. Cenk Uygur and Randi Rhodes let me know that a progressive agenda was ok; that someone would hold the Democratic party accountable for caving to the Republican agenda ad nauseum.
Then Cenk had to go. That was the first sign to me that Democratic party cannot be criticized by Air America Radio Hosts. But Randi was still on, so my conspiracy theory was partly held in check.
But not now. Party line or your out.
That's a shame.
The only fault I have ever found in Thom Hartmann is total party allegiance. But, at least that protects him from being forced to leave.
I will never champion Air America again until they put Truth and Integrity before Party.

I hadn't started listening to Air America while most of those shows were on the air, but Jerry Springer's Show, Randi Rhodes, The Majority Report, and Sam Seder were the one's that got me to listen and kept me listening. I listen to Rachel Maddow occasionally, but otherwise, the shows I most enjoyed are all gone.
Randi's comments were ugly and not appropriate. I understand the need to protect your network and sponsorships. After all, it was an Air America sponsored event. However the listeners you'll now lose will impact your network and your sponsors. You could have saved yourself a lot of grief had you condemned the comments but continued to support her.

I can't tell you how much I agree with you.
Can't stand what's been going on.
Fucking : a word I must hear a hundred times all day long in city schools by city kids. It entered the vernacular a long time ago. Wake up. Ride the subway in the late afternoon when real people - not corpocrats - ride it.

I've just about had it with this station.
If it weren't that I NEED TO KNOW the things the remaining reporters talk about, I'd pull the plug.
As much as Rhodes was thorny and rude, she was the only one that laced things together, and the only one that read full-length documents to us.
The country needs her intelligence. If she has a mouth that goes along with it, there are other ways to tone it down. Like we tone it down in the classroom when we deal with the kids.
And put the others back on as well, why you're at it.

most of these cancellations have come over a period of time. Ironically Randi was one of the best, and the most experienced, radio personality they had. Hopefuylly they'll replace her with Sam Seder. But honestly I have come to loathe the way these idiots have run this network.
