There's No Big Lesson In Yesterday's Elections (AUDIO)

Sometimes a statewide vote is just a statewide vote

Wednesday November 4, 2009 2:40 p.m.

The media is hard at work shoving a square peg into a round hole, trying to pull some larger meaning out of an Election Day that history shows has no larger meaning. FiveThirtyEight.com explains what really happened and why. Jack Rice breaks down the results with something a little more useful than hot air: facts.

The idea that Tuesday's elections wasn't a wakeup call to liberals is an example of the echo chamber in which liberals live. Without it, there's no way that leftist thought could survive the onslaught of facts and reality that exposes the left for the vacuous, empty, baseless, and morally bankrupt facade that it truly is.

Face it. The Democrats, including Obama, easily won New Jersey and Virginia in the 2008 elections. Last Tuesday, they lost both by convincing margins with Virginia being a wipeout. In fact, the vote swing was tens of points in favor of the Republicans. So no clear-thinking and intellectually-honest person can state that Tuesday's elections weren't a massive referendum AGAINST Obama and his illogical, non-sensical, and generally dishonest policies.

Maybe you can answer these questions, John Belcher

Was Pres Obama born in the US?

Was he educated in a Madrassa?

Is he a muslim?

27.
hufflarry2000

ACORN frightens you. You white right wingnuts cant win elections when all those damned black and brown people vote.

Provide proof that Pres Obama was an ACORN organizer. Like the typical wingnut, you are now becoming hysterical and the absurd lies start flying. What is this need you have to lie about America?

26.
John Belcher

If you are so smart that you know all about people you don't know and have never met.

How come you didn't see how stupid Obama was before he was elected?

ACORN organizer what a resume

25.
hufflarry2000

You are not a conservative, you are a right wing extremist. Almost everyone is more conservative than you. People like you left conservative values behind long ago in favor of big, intrusive govt.

24.
hufflarry2000

I am more conservative than you. When we liberals created the laws and security for you, you got used to it. You now feel you are "entitled" to the security and safety that you have. You dont think that you should have to pay to take part in this society. You are a welfare Queen, a free loader, if you will.

23.
John Belcher

Southerner, like southern Calif? So now you have covered all the people you hate. I think.

I'm confused. If I say I'm a conservative and you say you are more conservative than me. Aren't you saying you are a conservative?

Is this too hard to follow for you.

22.
hufflarry2000

You love the big govt and everything it offers you. You could not live without it. Problem is you dont want to pay for it. You want to freeload, a welfare Queen, if you will. I see why most welfare checks go to rural southerners. In other words, white right wingers.

21.
John Belcher

Dumb as a stump.

20.
hufflarry2000

I never said I was a conservative. I said I was more conservative than you. Mussolini is more conservative than you.

19.
hufflarry2000

You dont know what a real conservative is. You want the big govt to invade a woman's privacy, ban gay marriage, raise taxes on the middle class, cut taxes and give welfare to millionaires. You want govt wire tapping Americans, not let gays in the military, take away the right to medical malpractice, subsidize religious organizations, start wars of aggression based on lies, and have the supreme court choose the president.

You have ZERO conservative values. You are an extremist of the right, a facsist. This is why you are on the fringe of society with no voice.

You dont know any conservatives, they would not associate with you. You are for big intrusive govt. You most likely work for the big govt.

18.
John Belcher

Well

I think you saying you are a conservative is a lie.

The conservatives I know not only don't say the hate filled stuff you do. They don't even think it.

Obviously you do. I want the government out of my bedroom and out of my billfold.

What have you said here in any of your posts that sounds anywhere near conservative.?

Pee brained liberal. No common sense.

17.
hufflarry2000

You dont know any conservatives, they would not associate with you. You are part of the small minority of teabaggers, FOX News zombies, and ditto heads. You despise real conservatives and disagree with their small govt and lower tax agenda. You want the govt to intrude into people's lives, which is anti conservative.

Please post one of my lies.

16.
John Belcher

Funny, you don't sound like any of the conservatives I know. They don't spew hate for people, just for bad ideas and policies.

Your "you being a conservative"statement is about as true as Obama saying he did not follow the election results. It defies logic.

Why are all Liberals like Bill and Hillary. Lie, just to lie, even when the truth would serve them better.

You are not a conservative but you are a liar. Everyone here can see that. No matter who they support.

15.
hufflarry2000

You are a right wing extremist, part of a small fringe group. I know what you are. I am more conservative than you. People like you have no power and the Republican party is in the process of cleansing itself from your kind so they might become competitive again.

14.
John Belcher

You are an idiot. I never once said I was a Republican because I am Not.
Do you understand the word " conservative"?

More hate. You go girl.

Pee brain Liberal

13.
hufflarry2000

Are you gonna break into tears like Beck? Take 30 pills of hillbilly heroin like Rush? Sexually harrass someone like OLOOFA? Pick up gay hookers like so many of your masters?

Why cant candidates with your extreme views ever get elected? Is it because only 20% of people call themselves Republicans? Why do you believe and follow liars and substance abusers?

12.
John Belcher

By "true American" I assume you mean you?
Liberalism is a mental disorder and all your ranting and hate proves it.

Go Palin, Beck, FOX, Rush. Levin and Cheney. Give it to em.

Yahoooooooooooooooo

11.
hufflarry2000

You are not a conservative. You are a right wing extremist. You love Palin because she is stupid and tells you lies that you wish were true. She only speaks for a very few whackos like you. As you found out the past few elections, true Americans could not care less what you think.

10.
John Belcher

Wow. Didn't you guys win the last election.

You are unhinged because of Palin. That's what we conservatives love about her.

I think the Dems are pissed because Pelosi is their "looker" LOLOLOLO

Thank goodness you don't really speak for all Americans.

9.
hufflarry2000

The American people hate Palin, as the election of president Obama proved. The American people hate you right wing extremists as yesterday;s election proved. What fairy tale do you live in?

8.
John Belcher

The Right Wing nuts say:

Obama get on FOX and give it to em?
Beck and Palin helped not hurt.
Boy you guys hate Palin. You go girls. Get their panties in a wad. A Private citizen eating Obama's lunch.
Don't like Palin but Like Biden? LOLOLOLOLOLO

7.
hufflarry2000

Trollstein, you must stop halucinating too. There will be no purge of Dems to go back to the party that caused this mess. When have there ever been alot of Independents elected to congress? Good grief, get a grip!

6.
Trollstein

There were two lessons:
a) Incumbants beware
b) Billionares also beware
However, if the economy does not improve and specifically unemployment, be ready for a purge of D's in a year, maybe being replaced by a record number of I's.

5.
hufflarry2000

PA and OH will stay strong Dem as yesterdays election proved. I live in Ohio and there is not one single Republican elected official in Cleveland, Akron or Canton. I dont believe there is even a Republican party here anymore.

Virginia proved that if a Dem runs to the right, he loses. In NY-23 it proves that if a Dem runs as a liberal, he wins, even in a strong Republican district. Quit hallucinating.

4.
drhunt1

We shall see who's more correct...I predict a 40 seat swing in the House at least. Virginia's results should indicate to you how the indies now view Hope and Change...they're hoping for change...and will get it in 2010. Owens has to win his seat back then too...so let's see what happens there, but Ohio and pennsylvania are ripe for the plucking. Carli Fiorino has now announced a run against Boxer out here in Cali...now THAT should be interesting. The tide has turned, and unemployment rates of 10% going forward into 2010 spell a serious sour note for Dems. Oh!...but wait...BO still has $500B in the SP to throw at those sensitive districts to help support Dem candidates! Great! Now THAT'S good for the country...isn't it? LOL!

3.
hufflarry 2000

The only backlash that is occuring is against you right wingnuts. Your own party hates your extremism. Dems will pick up at least 20 more seats in 2010.

2.
drhunt1

blogbob- consider the fact that Hoffman only entered the race a month ago. The fact that he displaced the RINO and came within a few % points of winning, (no doubt aided by the exposure from Beck and Palin), should send a wake-up call to the Dems across this land. There is a major backlash occuring, and if the GOP can't find conservative candidates to back, then third Party entries will continue. I predict a HUGE "change" in 2010.

1.
blogbob

I have to wonder what the headline would have read with a Dem sweep. I mean no disrespect, but "Sometimes a statewide vote is just a statewide vote" sounds awfully glib in the face of what really happened in those two races. One must also consider: in Virginia the party winner of the White house the year before has lost the governorship quite often since the Civil War. Sounds like business as usual there. But of more import is the fact that in New York, a Dem candidate who barely spent a dime nearly beat a guy who spent $100 MILLION of his own money. And the voters of upstate proved that an endorsement from Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin can be akin to the kiss of death.
