TODAY'S SHOW: TUESDAY, MAY 13TH, 2008
Today is the West Virginia primary, a contest that Hillary Clinton is expected to win by huge margins. But does it matter? David Bender, the master of electoral politics, will be taking your calls. (866) 303-2270
- May 13, 2008

Bender please quit
The whole AAR Hillary Clinton Fans, Meadows, Al Geen, David Bender for weeks they gave Hillary some chance
Her chance is over since early February. Hillary is a disastrous candidate. It's just for her image and not for the party.
On black voters Hillary is behind with 60 % compared to Obama. Look the figures form Hillary in Alabma, Georgia, Missouri.
Obama as example has over 1 Mio votes in Pennsylvania compared to John Kerry with over 0.5 Mio 4 years ago.
Kerry won Penn against George W. Bush by around 0.3 Mio.

By olkainflriMay 14, 2008 - 4:57amWhat REALLY matters? MS-01's Travis Childers!!
The WV primary is meaningless drivel, and so is all the commentary on it.
Until President Obama starts marshalling progressives in Congress next year to start fixing the impoverishment (both economic impoverishment and educational impoverishment) of the people of Appalachia -- people who have been largely ignored by Democratic and Republican presidents since the death of Bobby Kennedy -- we are all wasting our time talking about West Virginia.
The most important election of the day is the special election in Mississippi's first district, where Travis Childers is about to win! He'll be the first Democrat to take that seat in decades, and I didn't hear one person on Air America talking about this today!!
What a waste of air time.

By tbetzMay 13, 2008 - 6:41pmDavid discusses popular vote, more legitimizing
HEY!!!! All these discussions that just legitimize the notion that Hillary could win the popular vote simply ignore the HUGE FACT THAT THE POPULAR VOTE DOES NOT INCLUDE A POPULAR VOTE FROM THE CAUCUS STATES...which I might add, would only increase Obama's popular vote lead should those votes be included. So Hillary can count Florida and Michigan but the popular votes in 5 states shouldn't be counted? What kind of skewed argument is that?
Every time one of these talking heads or radio commentators discusses the POSSIBLIITY that Clinton could surpass Obama in the popular vote.it makes it seem more plausible. NOT!!!

By cheoMay 13, 2008 - 6:42pmOn the Presidental race
Why isn't John Mccain's pastor problems as big as Obama's. People say it because that Reverand John Haggee isn't M Mcain's pastor and Mccain did not stay in his church for 20 years, but when you think this over you must realize that John Mccain sought out the endoresement of a man he knew from the beginning was a bigot but he didn't care about the fact. At least for Obama we can say that he knew the pastor for a while and saw the good in him but Mccain has no excuse

By emperorjohnMay 13, 2008 - 6:56pmMichigan and Florida must revote!
Why should the primary voters of Florida and Michigan be disenfranchised for the failings of their state legislators? If the national party wants to punish those culpable for moving the primaries without national party approval, why should the voters in those states take the brunt of that punishment? I could see disenfranchising the superdelegates because it could at least be argued that they could have prevented those primaries from being moved up. However Florida had a Republican governor and the Democrats in the Florida state legislature were outnumbered 103 to 57.
My thinking is that Obama and Clinton unite in getting their big money backers to fund the revotes in Florida and Michigan. By holding those primaries, the Democratic party gets to look like it actually cares about voting rights. And that gives us the moral authority to raise voters' rights issues in the national election. Since Greg Palast and Mark Crispin Miller both think that a landslide is the only guarantee of Democratic victory there is a good chance that we will be demanding recounts in November. How can we expect to be taken seriously then if the Republicans can point to us disenfranchising our own voters now? Also at least as important is that holding revotes will help unite us by putting an end to the speculation of who really won the primaries.

By JHUCMay 13, 2008 - 7:12pmWV likes Obama 30x more than McCain
If Obama gets 30% of the vote tonight he'll have gotten 30x more support than John McCain did (he got a solid 1% of the vote in WV).
So, since primaries are supposed to be 100% predictive of the general election (per the Hillary camp...in certain states), does this mean that WV is 30x more likely to vote for Obama in the General?

By tasukibeth1May 13, 2008 - 8:45pmRE: Clinton staying in the race
How a presidential candidate conducts their campaign is indicative of how the candidate will act once in office. Consider how Hillary has conducted the financing of her 08 presidential campaign. A twenty million dollar debt and bills unpaid indicates her fiscal irresponsibility.
Her lack of fiscal responsibility in her campaign is as disturbing as Bush's fiscal irresponsilbility as he spends, spends, and spends. If Hillary want to play, Hillary should know how to raise the money to play. Hillary touts the fact that Obama has significantly outspent her in various state primaries. Another way of looking at this is that Obama has out earned her and is spending within his means.
Since it's the economy stupid! Do you want Hillary who seemingly assumes that her campaign is an entitlement and the cost will be assumed by somebody, in charge of a very troubled economy and country?

By EsseaMay 13, 2008 - 7:56pmRachel is fighting the good fight tonight on MSNBC.
She is bringing up the Hagee anti-gay bigotry.. since the only thing Hagee has changed his tune on is the anti-Catholic crap. Seeing her tonight makes me so happy to have her on the air speaking words I agree so strongly with.. AND speaking those words to the people who disagree. I feel like she is speaking for me, and I am so grateful for that.
I know, I know.. so many of us are unhappy about the new AAR format.. but, I am holding my breath hoping that Rachel will make it in both mediums at the same time. I don't know if this is the format to make it work.. but I hope something works. If it worked, having Rachel talking to so many in the country is not only good for Rachel and MSNBC..and gives publicity to AAR.. but it is good for the COUNTRY.
PS. David.. I WILL listen to tonight's show with you hosting, only it will have to wait till tomorrow when I download the podcast. When you host, I often find myself rewinding the MP3 to listen to your insight again. You are a very cool political guru!

...many of us are unhappy with it - but not me. Like so many of us, I have watched Rachel come far and fast on TV, and prove her worth at every step along the way to deserve to move on to bigger and better things. And this despite gay bias in the MSM, making it even more impressive, and important.
R2TWH is not a great show (nor was the original Tucker show for that matter), but I don't think it's irredeemably bad, like some, and it's a far better show for having her on as a regular. And I couldn't agree with you more Athena, that it's good for Rachel, and AAR, and MSNBC, and the country, and so for ME! I have no doubt that it too will lead to bigger and better things.

Please get rid of tv on radio, very bad.

David's phone guest in the first hour jogged my memory a bit - was this Rick Tuttle (City Controller of LA for some years) also a 1960s "political prankster?" I may be thinking of someone else, and I don' t find any internet references but something is connecting in my memory.
(not that a good political prankster is a necessarily bad thing - just wondering about his history...)
on TRFTWH, less of the bumper music on the podcast would be nice! It is a very tiresome theme.

I'm sorry, I know Rachel loves David Bender and he's her guru and whatnot, but I can't stand listening when he's on instead of her.
I don't mind the call-in format of that portion. I don't mind him per se. I mind the, "IS HILLARY CLINTON A WITCH OR A HARPIE? CALL IN AND TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!" kind of chitchat. We keep moaning about how there's no focus on McCain, and Rachel certainly focuses her anger on McCain, but David Bender is always performing the All Hillary Channel.

By OmazingoMay 14, 2008 - 12:57amControl of the Senate
I don't get your radio program as it isn't carried by any local station. So you may have already commented on this. If Clinton is added to the Obama ticket, or even if some act of God adds Obama to a Clinton ticket, the anorexic majority in the Senate for the Democrats vaporizes. I've not heard anyone comment on this, and I'm a news junkie. If we lose the Senate majority, it doesn't matter whether it's Clinton or Obama in the Whitehouse since the Pubs in the Senate will cling to their new friend Phil A. Buster. What can either of them get done without that majority? Will these seats likely be filled by Democrats? I know I said I was a junkie, but apparently not junkie enough to have found this discussion elsewhere.

By CaroleTaylorMay 14, 2008 - 2:19amre: control of the senate
I'm pretty sure governors get to pick temporary replacements for Senators. Both Illinois and New York have Democratic governors and would presumably appoint Democrats to fill the seats and maintain the Democratic majority.

By NJSharonMay 14, 2008 - 9:44amMaddow has a face for radio
I enjoy watching MSNBC for their political views. I trust them to be fair and honest. They report on all sides of a story. When Rachel is on she is the rudest person on TV she is always smirking and rolling her eyes. She thinks she is running the show, always interrupting the other guest. Never a kind word for Hillary.
I know the whole worlds is in love with the New Emperor and his new suit. But he is not qualified to be President. He would have serve America best by backing Edwards and being his VP.Then after 8 years in the White House he would have been the best choice. Hillary has the experience and the baggage so it and win loss. But we know everything about her. The GOP have been giving the Clinton's a daily reaming ever since that "Hillbilly" won the White House. It takes more than just hope and enthusiasm to get the job done. I don't care how hopeful or enthusiastic my doctor is if he is not qualified he is not going to cut me open. But the one thing that upsets me most is when I hear an elected official say that they are supporting Obama just because their kids like him. I don't remember an 12 year being elected to office

To Obama supporters: FEEL BETTER ABOUT WV NOW?
Don't let the media and HRC bamboozle you. I'm not certain if
Hillary seems more like the Black Knight in Monty Python and
the Holy Grail, or more like the title character in movie Weekend
At Bernies. Barack's actually winning this thing BIGTIME. Feel
free to spread that around, frame the debate, and steer a true
message.
I've made it my mission to keep track of this stuff (and a lot more too).
I have a detailed Excel spread-sheet of all the primary results, votes,
percentages, delegates, dates, etc. If you would like a copy, I would be
humbly HAPPY to send it to you. Write Greg at STARFIELD8@AOL.COM.

By argus10x10May 14, 2008 - 5:22pmScapegoating Hillary is cowardly and mysogynist
I so tried to get through on the phone on Tues to challenge David's question as to whether Hillary Clinton has so damaged the campaign that Barak Obama might not be able to win in the fall campaign. By raising this question in this way Obama is relased from any responsibility Obama has for maintaining an agressive campaign and Hillary is guaranteed to be to blame for a loss if that occurred. She will be the culprit and he the victim. Not only is this shameful, it is a sure way to discourage any other uppity women from striving to hold the highest office in the land. I have been Clinton supporter from the getgo, but I am no fool and will support Obama if he is the candidate. Not the first time my first choice is not my final choice. But don't blame Hillary and protect Obama from responsibility for his own campaign. No one else has ever had to bear that burden. Sexism is not always visible to men. To them it just seems logical to view women more harshly than men, but most women know it when they see it, hear it or experience it.. Air America sould be better than that. Progressive women are listeners too.

By jrussMay 14, 2008 - 8:51pmHillary's inappropriate speech in Logan, WV
I am a WV native having lived in this state my entire life. It is utterly ridiculous that the press is stating that such a huge landslide win in WV is indicative of how the nation will vote in the general election. I can tell you from experience, it is not so.
Moreover, I think that Hillary should be slapped on the wrist for organizing a major rally in Logan County, WV. I mean, come on, there was a major racially charged incident in Logan less than a year ago. (Does anyone remember the case involving the girl in Logan County who was abused and held captive last September in what was cited as a racially motivated incident?)
This rally coming off of her statement last week about "hard-working white Americans" . . . someone should have told her that Logan might not be a great choice to schedule a rally appearing on national television.

CLINTONS OPEN PANDORAS BOX
There are in life certain thing, that are better left alone, doors that should not be opened, things that should not be spoken, things that should not be done, cost that should not be paid, and (D-NY) US/Senator Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton opened the box that should not have been opened, the Pandora’s Box of Racism In America.
There is Victory and then there is Hollow Victory, and the West Virginia “Primary” was a Hollow Victory, one that was a Hollow Victory, paid at a heavy price. The Clinton's proved that they were willing to achieve there goal at any cost, go to any lengths, and cross any lines in pursuit of Victory.
There is a country and western song “You're the Winner”, were a man is sitting at the bar and was know to be the “top dog” the man who always won or got what he wanted, and was challenged to a fight by the new Young Turk The tired older but wiser man, just looked at the young man and seeing himself went thru his life of winning explained the cost and just say, young man your now the winner. Many of his Victory’s had come at a price that made them shallow victories.
The key to Pandora’s Box “Hard working American’s, (WHITE) Americans is weakening again, and you know, (WHITES) in both states who had not completed college were supporting me ((D-NY) US/Senator Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton)”. It was the key to a campaign victory, in West Virginia, but allowed the World to see the “Doran Gray American Painting”.
Yes, Hillary “YOU'RE THE WINNER”!
