TODAY'S SHOW: THURSDAY, MAY 22ND 2008
On today's show Rachel will be talking to Paul Rieckhoff about the VERY exciting development on the new GI Bill-- it passed the Senate today! John McCain didn't bother to show up and Bush is already threatening a veto it but it passed nonetheless. And that is the best news we've heard all week. If you want to know if your Senator voted for it, go HERE.
And then Rachel will be joined by Matt Snyders, a staff writer at the Minneapolis/St. Paul City Pages, about the FBI trying to infiltrate vegan potlucks in Minneapolis before the Republican convention. Is bean curd considered a weapon of mass destruction?

It's an anti Obama site obviously. I am not anti Obama.
raejason@yahoo.com has already endorsed Obama.
dhannaher@hannahers.com has already endorsed Obama, or will soon.
I know this isn't directly related to this subject but Rachel knows this is important and I have no way to get it to her.

At least Rasmeusson stopped polling the Obama-Clinton race. They decided it was over. And it is.
Luckily for Obama, Clinton spent all her money early on because she thought the party would just hand her the nomination. If she didn't have the $20 million in debt she could better "persuade" the super delegates. LOL

Anyhow, let's see how the media frames this McCain's rejection compared to Obama-Wright.

And, from the "You're fired. >>No, I'm not, I quit" category:
At roughly the same time Mr. McCain’s campaign issued a statement repudiating Mr. Hagee on Thursday, Mr. Hagee himself put out a statement saying he had withdrawn his endorsement of Mr. McCain.

AAR mystifies me sometimes. It's appeal is as an alternative and useful source of information. But now I have to skip through the first hour of $$$mooneymedia$$$ drivel and that annoying drumming intro to get to what I paid for. Is there a way to separate the shows so I don't end up downloading the podcast of breathless gossip? And who writes Rachel's scrip for "race", don't they know what she says on the rest of the show? A real problem is that Rachel comes away with these notions of "conventional wisdom" which she feels the need to refute. Hey Mark Green, there is a reason people are paying to listen to AAR and it isn't MSNBCFOXCNN.

Why hasn't he?
Please don't say it's The Roolz, because the rules say that:
1. all five of the states that set their primary earlier than they were scheduled should lose half their delegations, but
2. any of these states can challenge, and any can be given a waiver - as three of them were.
If Obama asks for MI and FL to be given the same waiver, the problem is solved.
So why hasn't he?

Yes the rules are part of the problem, along with the states, the DNC and the candidates themselves. To suggest that this would all be solved if Obama would sit down and flip a switch is just plain silly or naive, take your pick.
This problem began with the individual states when THEY decided to ignore the DNC, but I hope you are aware of the entirety of the problem and the very limited solutions available.

Over the last 8 years the world has been subjected to a stream of American
jingoist bullshit. Even more so than in the preceding 50 years.
Even the so-called "liberal" Rachel Maddow doesn't seem to understand she
is insulting every not-Amuuuurican on the planet.
Allow me to give you a few examples:
1) The endless wining about "supporting the trooooooops".
Every week Mr. Reickoff gets all the time he needs to talk about this subject.
Maybe equal time should be given to the Iraqi point of view?
The GI-bill: Why should murderous mercenaries be rewarded?
Maybe a bill to give everybody the opportunity to go to college could be an
option? This would have the added benefit that having a larger part of the
population college educated would make it more difficult to stampede the
American people into another bloody, illegal, aggresive war.
2) The emphasis on "spying on the Amuuurican people".
For years the American government has been spying on everybody
not-Amuuurican. Google echelon.

Actually, I completely agree with this. The U.S. coverage of the invasion was shockingly sad because it was all the opinions of U.S. soldiers/embed journalists behind a wall of blowing sand from their jeep columns, or whatever. They had no idea what was going on outside the perimeter of their equipment at the time, and they had no idea what the country had been like before they invaded it. (Clearly they also didn't know why they were there.) European coverage of the same invasion featured an international crew of journalists sitting around in hotels and cafés, chatting with people, showing documentaries they'd shot in the recent past as they wandered around Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.
Have you read "The Crusades through Arab Eyes," by Amin Maalouf? Or--this is sad--"Jingo" by Terry Pratchett?
The question of whether soldiers are murderers is a very disturbing but important one. Right now perhaps the best tactic is to organize health care and a G.I. bill for our soldiers and then try, try, to power down the damn military. We must be a rich country indeed if we can throw away half our budget on that.
Regarding spying: new article in Der Spiegel that Deutsche Telekom, the phone company, was spying on the phones of managers and journalists. I never heard one way or the other whether T-Mobile was involved in our warrantless wiretapping, but perhaps my question was just answered.

Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/23/world/middleeast/23audit.html
A Pentagon audit of $8.2 billion in American taxpayer money spent by the United States Army on contractors in Iraq has found that almost none of the payments followed federal rules and that in some cases, contracts worth millions of dollars were paid for despite little or no record of what, if anything, was received. [snip]
Examples of the paperwork for some of those payments, displayed at the hearing, depict a system that became accustomed to making huge payments on the fly, with little oversight or attention to detail. In one instance, a United States Treasury check for $5,674,075.00 was written to pay a company called Al Kasid Specialized Vehicles Trading Company in Baghdad for items that a voucher does not even describe.
In another case, $6,268,320.07 went to the contractor Combat Support Associates with even less explanation. And a scrawl on another piece of paper says only that $8 million had been paid out as “Funds for the Benefit of the Iraqi People.”
Sounds like George Costanza's "Human Fund." Except it's OUR TAX DOLLARS!

It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one.
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
The house looks like a rummage sale.
It ain't me, it ain't me. I ain't no millionaire's son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one.
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Oh, they send you down to war.
And when you ask them, how much should we give?
They only answer more! more! more!
It ain't me, it ain't me. I ain't no military son.
It ain't me, it ain't me. I ain't no fortunate one.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no.

By Buxtehude_BarbarossaMay 23, 2008 - 1:55pmRachel, EVEN MORE today, you need to call Al Giordano.
Check out his blog today about Ben Cardozo switching from Hillary to Obama, and why:
http://ruralvotes.com/thefield/?p=1258
Giordano reports that 40 Hillary supers and PLEDGED delegates in California are preparing to switch, to put an end to the primary campaign. 40 Hillary delegates switching = +80 delegates for Obama, and it moots any rules committee challenge that might be raised on May 31.
This is huge, and can help you put to rest your concerns.
CALL AL GIORDANO!

Hey, it isn't me. You go argue with the MIT'ers. Note that they can't post the entire vids there, only stills, lest they violate the copyright laws that YouTube took the vids down for in the first place.
I'm interested to hear if essic (or her personal IP advisor) has any thoughts on YouTomb...

Are you a bitter Hillary supporter or a bitter republican?
Is there a difference?

Why is "Just in case" a justification for staying in the race at all? She's clearly long been the natural successor in the case of a tragedy. The Obama campaign hasn't once said she should get out. Why isn't "Everyone should have the chance to vote" good enough? Why is she searching for other reasons? Is it because there is some other reason in her mind other than democracy?
The whole thing makes me sick, and it makes no sense.
