Today's Show: Friday, October 28, 2005

By Nazanin Rafsanjani

Welcome to another Washington D.C.-based Rachel Maddow Show! Our trip to Washington has been delightful.  The highlights?  We stopped by an anti-war vigil outside of the Whitehouse...Rachel had her make-up done with orange-hued, Pat Buchanan... and, we unfortunately ate an orange-hued so-called "food" item called the "buffalo chicken kicker."

All while waiting for  indictments...and contemplating the next Supreme Court nominee...

UNDERBELLY:

Bye!
Bye Bye Suckers!!

Harriet Miers's nomination as a deliberate Whitehouse strategy

FRONT PAGE:
Who's up next on the Supreme Court nominee shortlist?  Rachel will give you a couple of facts about each possible nominee...

More leaking...The New York Times reports that Scooter Libby "appears likely to be indicted" today.

Indictment...indictment...indictment...indictment...

Noe
Major GOP fundraiser, Tom Noe (of Coin-gate)...indicted.

PET STORY:

Chimp
Do you know anyone who acts this way?  Rachel thinks chimps are demons.

EXTRA CREDIT:
They call it "requisitioning"...we used to call it "quartering" and we outlawed it in the third amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Good Morning All!

oook!  I'll go first

Frederica hanging---they don't call it slower lower Delaware for nothing.

Morning

Hey DrG and LJ.

Hey

Pictures

Ok you two, step away from the wings and post some Washington circus pictures today. DrG, did you watch whiskey-wheeze Rita's interview with Swoopes last night? Hey, more new music.

Morning m8 and all !!!!!!!!

When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it, always.

I'm woikin' here!

I taped it, m8.

Morning, Rachel, this is how

Morning,

Rachel, this is how long grand Juries can sit:

"regular" grand juries sit for a basic term of 18 months but a court can extend this term for another 6 months, bringing the total possible term to 24 months; "special" federal grand juries sit for a basic term of 18 months but a court can extend their term for up to another 18 months, bringing their total possible term to 36 months.

I TRULY ENJOY THIS SHOW!!!!!

To the AAR suits:  I would like to hear more than one hour of Rachel,

instead of turning off three hours of "others".

If bush can become pResident, imagine what YOU can become!

Impatiently waiting...

...for today's show to be available.

Otherwise I'll have to talk to my kids on the ride to school / work.

;-p

Aaaah.. there it is!

Ask and ye shall receive.

:)

Wistfully yours

Last week I was back home for the first time in five years, and now you're there and I'm back in London.  And since I was jet-lagged for days, it wouldn't have been a problem to be up at four in the morning (I was anyway) to go out and try to run into you.

But in real life, you weren't there, and I couldn't get an internet connection, and I managed to get back to sleep.  So I missed my big chance to stalk you (or maybe even get together for coffee, who knows?).

So now I'm just here again thinking about how everything I know is still unthinkable and somehow I need to be able to articulate it and I don't want to.  No one wants to.  That's the hang-up.  I know the whole mess in Iraq is now hopeless, and I just don't want to face it.

Checkin' in

Good morning everyone!

I missed Rita's Swoopes interview last night.  If anyone can give a summary, I'd be very appreciative.  :)

Good morning from the West Coast!

And happy Friday.

Happy Indictment Friday!!

11:00 AM Pacific, 2:00 PM Eastern.  :-)

Swoopes interview

The interview was the last segment and it was short and sweet. The transcript is already posted at MSNBC. One of Rachel's boyfriends was also on there last night. G Gordon telling his version of Watergate.

G. GORDON LIDDY, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST:  Well you know, Mr. Bernstein and his partner, Mr. Woodward have never admitted what is now widely known, and that is that the break-in of the Democratic Headquarters there was really an attempt to spy on the use of a call girl ring by some members of the DNC...

Vampy

Loved that *Vampy* look that Rachel had on The Situation last night - how much makeup do they have to put on those folks in DC to make them look alive!!!!  Pat Robertson looked absolutely ghostly and he is such a spooky guy anyway - ick!   Looking forward to her return to New York - now that's some *eye candy*!!!!

All the strange, scary, creepy stuff comes out around Halloween. Even Mr. Sulu!

A thought on the "Chimp"

A thought on the "Chimp" story.
Would studying people in prison (even after they'd been locked up together for 15 yrs) give a good indictation of how people in a small town relate to each other? No, it would only tell you something about the behavior of prisoners. [ Maybe this is just bad reporting (by the BBC) and not bad experiment design ]

Chemgirl...

Didja see this?  ::crosses fingers to avoid jinx::   I almost hate to start talking smack before the season starts, but ....

Big East media poll picks Rutgers women to win  http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/news/story?id=2206158

;-p

NJSharon

Rutgers topped Big East rival Connecticut without making a basket.

This is why the games are played on the court. ;-p

We'll see if RU and CViv can meet the challenge of preseason expectations, esp. with Cappie picked as preseason POY and Kia Vaughn as preseason ROY.  Keep the smack coming -- I can take it.

I actually thought I would've heard from you a week ago, with several UConn players (including Barbara Turner) getting mixed up at a party with a couple of dumbass girlfriends of UConn footballers.  Geno is disciplining accordingly.   (Also, I know you hate Geno, but he apparently voted both for Cappie for preseason POY and RU for preseason #1.)
