So, it sounds like Bush, Robertson, et al don't think taxpeyers should pay for health insurance for the children of families making up to $80,000?!?
Has anyone reminded them that taxpayers are paying for the health insurance of Senators, Congressmen, and, yes, Bush, Cheney, et al? Since they are on my payroll, and Health insurance is a benefit, that means I'm paying for their health insurance -- right?!?
Has anyone reminded these criminals that Tony Snow and several other "insiders" of the White House staff have recently tendered their resignations with the intention of "making more money", "putting kids through college", and other compensation-related "reasons". Tony Snow even said, "I'm not making enough money here.", and said he had "gone through" all of a second mortgage he took out when he became Press Secretary. -- and he was making about $168k annually -- with benefits! Where is the logic that dictates someone making less than half Tony's annual income should also not enjoy taxpayer-subsidized health insurance?
These guys are genetically incapable of seeing anything beyond their own wallets. Their consistent approach to public policy could be summed up as, "I've got mine -- screw you."
a year doesn't go that far when you pay thousands of dollars a year for insurance, plus co-pays for insulin, syringes, test strips, finger pricks, alcohol swabs, bi-yearly doctor visits, bloodwork every 6 months, occasional doctor prescribed hospital educational classes, and still have to maintain 3 healthy meals and one snack a day, no cheap junk food allowed, etc. Try to get a better job? You go without that child being insured for a year, one hospital stay away, a very real possiblility when you have a diabetic child, from financial ruin. I talk from parental experience here, starting at 2 years and 8 months to adulthood. Are these people so out of touch that they think insurance pays for everything? I have never wanted to actually beat some sense into someone in my life as much as I wanted to take a swing at Uncle Pat tonight!
