Happy to hear Marc!  Been enjoying the Tuesdays with Seder and am concerned about what they will cost, but so thrilled they're happening.  All the best to Rachel~~did you hear the props she got from Chris Matthews on Russert?  He didn't remember her name but (jeesh) it was something.

Marc - good to hear you!

Do you have any idea how much you've been missed?

Maron in on for Maddow!!!

Marc is a genius! What a relief.

lenG

What a pleasant surprise to

What a pleasant surprise to hear Marc Maron on AAR. Why they don't get him and Sam Seder back on daily is beyond me.

Waaaay to negetive

Man, Marc I had to turn you off. So dark, complaining, pesimestic, and self-absorbed. Go serve someone!! ...and you won't feel like such a victim.

See you soon Rachel!!! :-)

Sooooo Dark..

Give him a break..He's going through a Divorce !!

Then go run a hundred miles.

Emotional craps should be done in private as one is trained to do with physical ones, not all over radio listeners.

Lighten Up :)

Lighten Up for Gosh Sakes !

Or go listen to Lionel,gezz!

Waaaay to negetive

I'm sure he is a great guy and it sounds like his heart is in the right place.  However, I have to agree with you.  That first 1/2 hour was nearly unlistenable.  You can't follow this guy he's so all over the place.  I understand the benefits of free-form thinking, etc but if you never finish a point and jump from thought to thought w/out direction, you lose people and it makes for TERRIBLE radio.  Finally people give up and turn you off.  It makes it so clear to me why AAR may have parted ways with him as a host.  It has nothing to do with his ideas but, by the end of that form-less so-called rant, I just wanted him to shut up because I got so frustrated trying to make sense of whatever he was trying to say.

And, yes, he is rather dark today.  Somewhere, I'm sure Rachel is cringing listening to her own show.  I mean, really, he went on about how cool it would be to ram someone else's car.

Sorry Marc.  You certainly have your fans and I'm sure you deserve them.  I just can't listen to you.

I'm thinking that you may

I'm thinking that you may have never heard Morning Sedition.

I'm thinking that you may

Admittedly, that's true.  Would having heard that show make this better?  Maybe I'm missing something.  Again, I'm sure he's a fine person.  His style just doesn't appeal to me.

I think that if you knew

I think that if you knew Morning Sedition you would understand Marc.  I imagine that he might be difficult to keep up with.  I am saddened to hear of the difficulties between Marc and Mishna, but Marc Maron puts a voice to my own anger at what this country has become.  Though retired now, I took the day off and cried for three solid hours on that final Friday airing of Morning Sedition.

Marc can use humor to cut like a knife.

I think that if you knew

Well, I'm glad that his voice speaks to you.  While he may not be my cup of tea, I can respect his passion and that we all find those that communicate to us in the way that makes sense to us.

I think he needs some Mark Reilly to counter-balance :) Just like Reilly needed Marc to counter him. What a great team. Damn it. DAMN IT!

Give the Man some time..

And,I'm sure Rachel is not so close minded like you.

Relax..Have a Appletini..Your Both Bumming Me Out !!  :)

Lighten Up :)

Different people like different styles of communicating.  I just don't happen to enjoy his, at least based on his opening rant.

As I said, I respect him but I can't say that I like his radio style.

I read that things Maron

I read that things Maron says gets people to turn off the radio. I guess we all have our sore points. For me today when Randi Rhodes says she doesn't like those on the left who complain about our leaders, calling us whiners, I click off the internet stream. Apparently I have to close my eyes and chug the lefty Kool Aid in the same way the righties drink their brand of Kool Aid or else I am not a real liberal.

BRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Brian!!  Welcome back.  Sing us a song

I read that things Maron

For me, it's not WHAT he says, it's mostly stylistic.  I can't stand someone who goes all over the place w/o finishing a thought.  It comes across as incoherent and it's a struggle to figure out what their point is.

I do realise that preferences differ and that's the beauty of being human.

I am forced to agree with

I am forced to agree with you Smack_Dab.  Randi has changed from the early days, just as AAR has changed.  Marc Maron, Sam Seeder, Jeannine Garafalo, Mike Malloy - gone all of them.  Even Al Franken.  I once worshipped at the virtual feet of Randi.  These days I'm as apt to turn her off as I am to listen to her berate her own supporters.

Just enjoying Marc's voice.  I didn't think I'd ever hear him again.

Smack, criticizing our own is not the end of the world...

God knows I have spent enough time in my lifetime saying that to my own people...Give Randi a break...When was the last time you heard anyone from the right criticize Ann Coulter for calling John Edwards the "F" word...? (If you listened to Ann Coulter on Mark Simone's show last Saturday morning, you learned that she did not know the difference between Warren Buffett and Jimmy Buffett the singer, lmfao!)

When was the last time you heard anyone from the right criticize Rush for his drug hypocricy or Craig for his "toe tapping" nonsense in that bathroom? Get off Randi's back...She was just being honest in admitting that not everybody on our side of the political spectrum is above criticism...And, since when do we click someone off because we do not agree with them...? That is the sole construct of the right wingers, not us...We are progressives and liberals, let us start acting like that...

We need to not only talk the talk but walk the walk...

Submitted by grissy849 on October 8, 2007 - 10:41pm

I'm going to have to agree with Smack-Dab on this one.

Recently Randi has been pulling the same shit that I despise about right-wing radio. Namely, she's become a shameless apologist for the Democratic Party(right or wrong), & she talks over or disconnects people that don't agree with her. THAT'S the kind of unwillingness to listen to divergent viewpoints that we shouldn't tolerate.

Support the Troops.
End the War.

I can't listen to Randi a lot due to work, school and family...

...but her heart is always in the right place...And, really, the few times I have heard her, she gives as good as she gets..,I like Randi...And, we are in a cock fight with the right wing and we need to stop acting like wimps...I like that she knows that...

Randi's heart may be in the right place...

...although I reserve the right to leave that question open--but her mouth isn't.  Yes, we need people to speak out with as much vigor as those who support heinous causes--just as long as it's done with an equally profound element of well-developed reason.  Unfortunately, Rhodes has a tendency to just spew:  to open her mouth before engaging whatever serves her for a brain.

And as Guy points out above, subjecting the people that support you to the same vicious attack style as those that oppose, is not a good way to make and/or keep allies.

We can do better.  We have better, and her name is Dr Maddow.  Rachel is much more intelligent and savvy than Randi, IMHO.  And more importantly, Rachel treats others with the same respect she demands she be treated by them.

Rachel treats others with the same respect she demands she be treated by them.

Exactly. The entire post, but especially that point.

As for Randi; she seems to be turning into the left's version of Laura Ingraham with a splash of Ann Coulter. We don't need that.

Support the Troops.
End the War.

Agreed...

We can do better.  We have better, and her name is Dr Maddow.  Rachel is much more intelligent and savvy than Randi, IMHO.  And more importantly, Rachel treats others with the same respect she demands she be treated by them.

I have to agree.  If all you are going to do is rant, you might as well put some humor in it as Marc does.  Rachel gives information and suggests action, which is far more productive than Randi's venom.  She's really the only one I can listen to at AAR anymore - now that Marc and Mark and Al are gone.

Elasg

Radio Talk Show Hosts have different styles...

...And if that style does not suit you, turn the dial. I do it all the time. All I am saying is that progressives and liberals spend a good deal of time "reasoning" with our enemies, and in the meantime, we are losing our rights in this country, we are being spied on, elections are being stolen from us, we are in this horrible war none of us want except a select few with all kinds of agendas, and we sit and "reason."  We are "reasoning" while Rome burns. We  pick at  each other because we have different styles, we look for traces of inauthenticity in each other and we wear each other down in the process. Some of us just like to tear apart others and they want you to "wimp" away when they pick you apart because they didn't like anything about you anyway...

...Reason is all well and good. I am a Maddow fan too but I also listen to other radio programs, some from the other side of the political spectrum. Anybody who engages me with a good debate is all right with me, But style is style and if you do not like some radio talk show host's style, turn them off...I have never had a problem with that...

Hope Rachel's back soon

Then Maron can go back to being self-involved, in private.  Until then...I'll go read a book.

Morning Sedition On Election Day, 2005...

Made me queasy and profoundly sad because the subject of the day, the day we exercise our Democratic Heritage, and stuff, was the use of torture by the US Government.

Now, it's two years later, and not only are we still talking about it, but doing it as well, and not only that, using it in commercials to sell shampoo and beauty products.

Evening yeall. Hey Marc.

Great to hear ya filling in dude.

Defoliation agents used on poppy crops in Afghanistan. (Ive got old Hightimes magazines from 2003 talking about the record bumper poppy crops expected. That was 4 years ago) That'll be Round-Up earning its war profiteer dollar most likely. Thats what they use in Columbia on coke and marijuana crops. However....

I still remember in the B movie "Return of the Living Dead 1"-

Frank, "There was a chemical leak. And some of the stuff started getting down into the ground around the mortuary. And all the bodies started jumping around."

Freddy,"What chemical?".

Frank, "2-4-5 Trioxin it's called. I was to kind of spray on marijuana. The Darrel Chem company was trying to develope the stuff for the army.".

Thanks Rachel !! :)

for letting Marc fill in for you! Thank you!

Glad to hear ya again Marc!:-)

Huh?

Of course.  You know, like

Of course.  You know, like - Face the Press

.

Remember, Foxnews fake rage math,

if you say the wrong thing, then that means people are going to be offended. There will be phone calls. And every phone call represents 1 billion people. So if you get 20 phone calls then that means 20 billion people were offended by that.

Where?

Where the hell is Reilly??....

They dropped him

His morning show had a *very* loyal base, but then they moved him to a four-hour slot at night and - surprise, surprise - when it lost listeners, they dropped Mark Riley without a word of warning.

Crappy treatment for a loyal man.

I wondered what happened to

I wondered what happened to Riley.  I thought that he might still be with WLIB even though AAR went elsewhere.

I tried, I really tried...

... to listen to Maron today, but at about 25 minutes into the second hour I had had enough. The "Ask Marc" segment was just horrible, and when they got into discussing the finer points of prescription drug abuse with some random guy on the phone I had to give up.  Just awful.

Greg Proops will bring me back tomorrow, but I am awaiting Rachel's return with much anticipation.

Yay! Marc!

Things are very strange here in northern NJ.  It's October.  It was dark by 7:15.  But it's 85 degrees outside, the crickets are in full-force chirp, and Marc is on the radio....

DAMN, guy, it's good to hear you back on the air.  You belong here.

Just About What I Figured...

Man, it's his first day hosting a radio show in eight months and a number of posts criticize him for being too negative. Well, wouldn't you be if you were getting divorced? Besides, considering the crappy state the government and the economy are in, I'd be just as venomous. I've noticed a similar tone creeping into Rachel's voice as well; it's just harder to catch with her honeyed notes.

The show started out a little rocky, but it got better in the second hour. I'd wager tomorrow's show will be even better. According to Marc last Friday Lawton Smalls might be stopping by (Yay!), and Greg Proops is always an excellent guest. Now if only Mort Mortenson could drop in...

Psyched

I podcast Rachel because we have no affiliate in Philly.  (Can you believe that?)  I was psyched when I listened to Friday's show (yesterday) and heard Maron was going to be filling in for a couple of days.

I won't get to hear it until later; the podcast isn't up yet but can't wait.  Man, I miss Morning Sedition.  The last 4 - 5 months they were on, that was some of the best radio anyone ever broadcast.

And Marc:  you said, a few months ago that you would never be heard on Air America again.  That'll teach you something about absolutes, won't it Amigo?

Welcome back, can't wait to hear the show.  And I hope they bring you back full time.

"To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead." - Thomas Paine

About Marc, I liked him, yes, I liked him...

...I especially like that he succeeded in pissing off all the right people...

Marc, keep the faith and there is love after divorce, indeed...

If ARR...

...brings back Maron and gives him Rachel's current time-slot, then gives Rachel a three hour show at a better time, that would be fine with me.  I'd rather listen to her, and I don't have to listen to him.

And if in the process Rantin' Randi and Fat Eddie get lost, even better.

I MISS YOU MARC!

I sorely miss Marc and Mark in the mornings and the host of crazy supporting characters! There has never been as funny a political show as this one, and I doubt there ever will be. The humor of Marc with the other comedians and the wisdom of Mark the true radio guy was such a brilliant pairing. If it had only been given a chance to catch on, it could have been a breakaway hit of the network. But how could anyone find it when it was hidden away in the dead of morning with virtually no publicity?

Looking back on it, it's like remembering a distant paradise lost...

But it's so nice to hear Marc on the radio again, if only for a short while.

OK, it's like this

Progressive utopians with no sense of humor and other Maron haters,

Maron is one of the best and first victims of the death of AAR.  Many of us like to blame Danny Gold**** for it but I am sure it went deeper. I am sure Rachel knew what she was doing by bringing him in to sub.

Maron is a great voice, radio or otherwise. He may be too edgy or challenging for lesser minds or weaker hearts. Brilliant insights on the world, politics, life. Just what AAR 1.0 was supposed to be and AAR 2.0 should have improved on.

It was great to hear MM back on with K-Lo and Brendan laughing like the old days. I hope Kent Jones shows up tomorrow with Lawton or maybe Angus (to talk with Maron about Scotland). It was nice to hear Brian from Everett and the Ask Marc segment was hilarious. I just hope Jim Earl can pass through tomorrow.

Thank you Rachel! You are just about all that is left.

Don't forget to catch Marc and Sam seder tomorrow morning on live vidcast, 11AM EDT, 8 AM PDT. (Suckar, don't bother)

Point Number One: I don't "hate" Marc Maron

II get the same crap from Greatful Dead and Stephen King fans:  just because I don't worship the very ground they walk on, I must therefore hate them; when the reality is, I just don't find them--any of them--so inarguably wonderful as to echo the slavering admiration they receive from their hardcore fan-base.  In fact, my reaction towards any of the above--and that includes the overly-self-involved and, IMHO, only moderately amusing Master Marc--is usually a heartfelt, "Eh".

Point Number Two:  If I have no sense of humor, as per the above broad-brush critique, then why do I worship the Lovely and Talented Stephanie Miller, having gone so far as to beg to be granted the much-sought-after position of the "Official Rum-soaked, Barnacle-encrusted, Blood-thirsty Pirate of the Stephanie Miller Show"?  Huh?  Huh?  Huh?

c crusty

Marc is not just all about the funny which is part of his greatness. You have every right not to like him. I was more referring to the 'haters' who I often suspect are AAR suck-up interns or anti semites or AIPACers.

I would not have bothered to come back to you except for your Stephanie comment. I guess I am in the same place with Mama that you are with Maron. I find her "moderately amusing" and "overly self-involved". I finally gave up listening to her first hour recently. I could not bear the repetiton during the 3 hr. edition and the 'busyness' of the audio and drops drove me nuts. I also felt that she borrowed a lot from Morning Sedition which is not a bad thing. I listened in today waiting for the Maron Seder Vidcast and the talk is incessant about Stephanie's insomnia. That has been going on for weeks. It is a little selfy if you ask me. The best SM shows for me are the ones hosted by Boosler and Markoe.

I still welcome her voice and would not trash her. I just wish Marc and co. had a greater outlet.

Note:

I don't accuse you of being humorless, a secret neo-con, a philo-Semite or a misogynist for liking Maron over Steph.  You just have bad taste.

:cheese:

However, I do agree that Maron is not "all about the funny".  IMHO, he's all about the Maron.

you forgot

:aar: intern, but of course an :aar: intern would not be a SM fan.

Accusing me of bad taste may be the worst accusation of all. :gulp:

and don't get me wrong, I do like some of the low unibrow humour occasionally

I'm so pumped

I didn't get a chance to listen live, but I'm trying to figure out if I should listen tonight, or save it until tomorrow. I'm hoping (if you didn't do it today) that you have Mark on the show, too. Marc, Mark, Kent, Chris... all together... I might actually cry. I was a little bit of a late-comer to MS, but once I found it, I felt like I had found a radio home. By then, Al's show had gotten boring (or maybe I was just so excited about the message that i hadn't noticed) and the rest of the shows were just not doing it for me. Then I started podcasting MS every damned day and it was my bright spot. I remember walking through the library, laughing like an idiot during the "Lieberman or Alf's Dad" bit.. wow.

Anyway, I wish I could have done more (as do we all, I'm sure) to keep MS on the air. It was a killer formula the likes of which I have never seen since. Rachel calls it "The best radio show ever taken off the air"... I agree with that, because it's better than most of the stuff on the air now!

Yeah, I think I'm going to wait until tomorrow to download today's... I'll get up extra early just to listen like the olden days.

One more stupid thing

Every morning that opening MS music would get me totally worked up. It was rediculous... like the opening chords at a kick ass concert or something. I can't explain it. When rachel played that tune on friday night, I forgot when I was.
