Sam Stein, political reporter for the Huffington Post, joins Montel Across America with guest host Karen Finney and offers some political reasoning behind Senator Reid's move to put public option in the finail Senate health legislation.
Stein explains that the GOP's strategy on opposing health reform backfired with Senator Reid's move to put public option in the finail Senate health legislation. Senator Olympia Snowe aside, with the GOP opposing everything, Senator Reid gained the ability of not worrying about losing GOP votes. In other words, if there were bipartisan bills out of the Senate committees, Reid would have been pressured to keep as close to those bills as possible so as not to come up short on getting a bill passed. Now, Reid gained the opening to include the public option in the bill without losing any definitve votes.
What do you think? Deft political strategy or risky maneuver?
