Maine May Become First State To Approve Same Sex Marriage By People's Vote (AUDIO)
Tuesday November 3, 2009 2:50 p.m.
Governor John Baldacci joins Montel Across America to defend the same sex marriage initiative on the ballot today in Maine. Baldacci signed marriage equality into law, which was passed by the state legislature in May 2009. However, opponents gathered enough signatures to place the initiative on the ballot for voters to decide on whether same sex couples have a right to legally get married. If approved, Maine will be the first to endorse gay marriage via referendum vote.
