News:
Dubai Ports World, the company set to take over operations at 6 American seaports, said last night that it would hold off on exercising operational control at the ports. The delay is welcomed by the White House, as President Bush seeks more time to address the fierce criticism over the deal from both sides of the aisle in Congress. Dubai Ports World still plans to close the $6.85 billion dollar sale next week, and though patient for the moment, the company did not say how long it would be willing to suspend its authority once the purchase is complete. Meanwhile, some are watching in amusement as the president's xenophobic chickens come home to roost.
Our Sea Ports
Isn't this a fallout from NAFTA? Dubai is,certainly,
not a good choice for us to have running ports on our
shores, but with the privatization that NAFTA requires,
can we do anything about it?
misconception
NAFTA does not "require" privitization, it ALLOWS for privitization. On top of that it only permits such privitization if the owning company is based in north america, and agrees to abide by US business laws. Even then, it does nto allow for foreign ownership of US national security assets.
Dubai is based in AND OWNED BY the United Arab Emirates, which along with Saudi Arabia is one of the two largest SPONSORS of world-wide terrorism. Specifically aimed at the United States and England. The SALE of a VITAL bit of national security to a foreign government is actually one of the definitions of TREASON.
Unlike what Limpballs and the rest of the right-wing wack-offs would have you believe, this is NOT about race. This is about insanity, corruption, and yet ANOTHER act of treason by the Bush Regime.
Why not Americans?
Why isn't an American company buying our ports back? Why isn't an American company buying the Saudi or UAE ports? Is America so poor now that even our rich cannot afford to buy our own ports?
