Abramoff Gets Minimum Sentence in Florida Fraud Case
News:
A Miami judge has sentenced everyone's favorite lobbyist Jack Abramoff to 5 years and 10 months in prison in a fraud case related to his purchase, with a partner, of the SunCruz Casinos gambling fleet. The judge imposed the minimum allowable sentence, which could have otherwise been upward of 7 years. The two men must also pay at least $21 million in restitution. Neither Abramoff or his partner Adam Kidan will be required to turn themselves in to authorities for at least 90 days, giving them time to continue cooperating with a federal corruption investigation, as well as a probe into the murder of Konstantinos Boulis, one-time owner of SunCruz Casinos.
