Congress Gives Itself a Raise

Congratulations to our fine representatives for being there and working so-o-o hard on our behalf. I’m glad their toil does not go unrewarded. They need the cost-of-living raise because we don’t want them to suffer any sacrifice while our country is at war, while our federal deficit mounts ever higher, while the rest of us can’t afford our costs when our raises are frozen.

Of course, we know the paycheck does not include other subsidies, such as living expenses, postage, and travel – all on our nickel. We don’t want these po-folk to go hungry.

Here’s another observation. At their income level, they are the beneficiaries of the tax reductions for the rich that they also approved. Is there a pattern here? These people are shameless.

And, how many days do these humble working-class purveyors of popular posturing actually work? My guess is less work-days than recess-days. I’m not going to count the time spent on trips to vacation destinations disguised as government-related conferences. Swinging a golf club is not swinging legislation.

This lack of accountability is part of the overall culture of corruption. It has been so entrenched in our government that it has become commonplace, and job security is the foremost focus. It’s just that the GOP has taken corruption to new heights through their lack of discretion. These particular newsmakers are in the forefront of self-servitude, but both sides seem to have a blatant disregard for the opinions and concerns of their constituents.

Given the low approval ratings from their boss (that would be us) it surprises me that they are still employed at all. What other employer/employee situation can you think of where the employee gives himself or herself a raise in spite of the boss’s opinion? The real trouble here is that their boss is remiss in the review process. Their boss is absent-minded and has a short memory. By the time they are up for termination, all their misdeeds have been forgotten, if not forgiven.

What do you think we should do about this? Let’s all try to pay attention. Let’s make change – change of policy, change of direction, and change of representation – the pre-eminent issue of the next election. We need real reform.

That’s how I see it, but I may be wrong.

certainly needs a raise. They should get hazardous duty pay.
Bush is going to turn on them, too. Hasert was already warned,
wasn't he. The shock and awe should be quite entertaining.

I have to say I wish I could give myself a raise that easy, pffft.

I am sooooo tired of the Congress not doing their job, and expecting the citizens to accept their worthless performance. Instead of actually accomplishing something we have a meeting over boys kissing boys, and limiting people's first amendment rights by making flag burning a felany. I don't agree with flag burning, but the government has no right to limit people's first amendmenr rights. Unbelievable....!!!!

It is shameful that the legislators of this country never
miss a chance to chow down at the expense of the working
people. They never miss a meal. Or a snack.

At what point will these fine, upstanding servants of
the public decide that they too should sacrifice in this
time of illegal "war"? Is the nation's deficit not yet
inexcusable enough? Are the missing trillions not
alarming enough? Is an out of control administration
that they seem only able to bow down to not betrayal
enough? Self-serving pay raises, like tax cuts
at a time when the defense budget is spending
a billion dollars a day, fly in the face of reason.
It has never been done before, anywhere in the
world. Who are these people?

Like termites these self-serving law makers are
eating away the floor boards of America while the
criminal enterprise in full swing at the White House
is ramming away at it's central support beams. That
they feel entitled to take a pay check at all is proof
enough that none of these liars deserve the honorable
jobs entrusted to them. It almost makes one wish
for the return of hangings for traitorous scoundrels like these.
It would seem well deserved. We have all had more than
enough of the disloyalty and betrayal of this government.
It has forgotten that it exists to serve us, that it has no
rights, and that it has no excuse for it's despicable behavior.

We are not it's slaves, we don't exist to obey it.
It exists to obey our will. It has nothing more than
the authority we bestow on it to carry out the specific
duties clearly outlined in our founding documents.
Apparently, none of these people can read.

Perhaps it's time to speak a language that they
can understand. Taxes are investments. We expect
a return on those investments. Quarterly. If we don't
see them, these law makers are fired. Any lawyers out
there care to draft the amendment?

Any democrat who voted for this should be kicked in the balls... or the ovaries as the case may be.

Your country is plunging into a horrible debt while the commander-in-chimp cuts taxes while spending a billions dollars a day... but what the hell, what's another (435 x $3,300) $1,435,500. It's not like we could have bought any body armor for our troops or fed any poor people.

Greed + corruption = GOP. Since these pigs will work a total of 97 days in 2006, they will earn $1,737.11 each gruelling day! Nice take for a crime mobster. Rob the constituents and line their pockets at the same time. Bonnie & Clyde must be rolling in their unmarked graves....PIGS-rot in hell!
