News:
House Democrats intend to pass a raft of popular measures as part of their plan for the first 100 hours, including revamped congressional ethics rules, a minimum wage hike, looser limits on stem cell research, and lower interest rates on student loans. A few Democrats say they are concerned that House speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided to take advantage of rules that prevent the GOP from offering alternative measures, for although the move assures speedy passage of the bills, it also seems to run counter to promises of bipartisan cooperation. Others point out that the bills in question have already been fully debated over the past year.
Oh so now they want to play?
After decades of useless debate and lies the Gop sinking on its withdrawl of power needs a fix. Anything will do just as long as they get to keep the spin, lies, and disgust of morals going on and on.
No thanks. We know what you are about now and don't think our world can take anymore of your bullying, war mongering, pollution pumping bullshit. You have looked the other way all in the name of power and profit.
Did anyone see Jack Welch on The daily show the other night. FUCK YOU JACK. The pro athlete doesn't deserve $100 million, and your comparison is nothing short of sleazy and greedy. Asshole, selfcentered son of a bitch.
Lets compare.
Federal judges make upwards of $200k/yr, perks and healthcare FOR LIFE. All on the back of taxpayers who pay taxes FOR LIFE.
I think we deserve health care too. Only makes sense right JACK.
AND SPEAKING OF TAXES....
And speaking of taxes, check out Aaron Russo's recent film about same here:

It just figures that you would go for a girl who has a heavy, cro-magnon like brow. My taxes aren't any lower; Bush cuts took money from the state, so they RAISED all of my taxes. Underfunded No Child Left Behind has in part caused my property tax to nearly double, and the economy is splendid for the upper few percent. My productivity increases each year, but wages are nearly stagnant. My natural gas budget increased by 58% last year and we had a pretty mild winter. How much has gasoline increased? I think it's more than double of what it was in 2001. What about the incredible increases in health care insurance and costs? You could drive a convoy of nuclear missiles across the Mexican border and no one would see. I wouldn't hold my breath about Al Qaeda.
Really, the middle class is losing ground.
To quote YOU -- "Think, McFly"!!!!
I have to go to work, Airborne, so you're going to have to fight it out with everyone else for now. Happy New Year, by the way. I really do wish you well, in spite of our differences.

If you do get this reply thansk for the New Year wish and I wish the same to you in 2007!
1-State taxes are in the laps of state politicians.
2-The econmy is good for the vast majority of America, Christmas 2006 proved that again.
3-Natural gas increase by 58%, that is alot!
4-Gasoline costs? Those who work for the gas companies are not complaning and yes I pay through the teeth for gas, but because gas prices are high means that it is bad for the economy? you should see all those motor homes with dune buggies and motorcycles that migrate to the desert on a weekly basis in SoCal, does not seem to be hurting them any.
5-Mexican border; point well taken there as I live in San Diego County and all the pols talk about immigration control, but only the Minutemen seem to be doing anythig about it.
6-al Qaeda or some other nut group will be back, our gov't will blunder that up as we did the first World Trade Tower bombings and thos in Africa, etc.
7-The middle class in becoming extinct!
8-McFly, I do think and again, accountability mustbe held to our pols, such as Bush, Kerry, Clinton, Reid, Pelosi, etc, etc, etc.

2-The econmy is good for the vast majority of America, Christmas 2006 proved that again.
--------------------
Tell that elephantshit to these folks.
Data on wages, compensation and income paint a disappointing picture of the current economic expansion, especially from the perspective of low- and middle income families. By most measures, real incomes were lower in 2005 than in the recession year of 2001, and real wages, after rising through mid-2003, fell consistently until very recently.
These unfortunate trends have occurred amid strong productivity growth, which implies that wage and income inequality — and in particular, the gaps between what high-income Americans are receiving and what other Americans are getting — has grown. Recently released Census data show that the top fifth of households received 50.4 percent of the nation’s income in 2005, equal to the highest share on record.
[...]
Indeed, the data on consumer spending — including newly released data for 2005 — add an important element to the story. They show that while households in all income categories saw their average before-tax incomes decline between 2000 and 2005 in inflation-adjusted terms, high-income families were able to increase their consumption levels through a combination of generous tax cuts, borrowing, and drawing down (or reducing) saving. In contrast, low-income families have not been able to weather the storm and have had to cut back on their expenditures, with little help from their modest tax cuts and with little recourse to borrowing. The evidence indicates that for middle-class families, consumer spending is roughly unchanged from its level in 2000 (or 2001)

Happy Holidays!
Yeah, go shopping!!
That is ALWAYS a solution for these neocons!!
deeter-
1-State taxes are in the laps of state politicians. YES - BUT BECAUSE OF THE TAX CUTS, THE STATES AREN'T GETTING A FRACTION OF WHAT THEY SHOULD BE GETTING.
2-The econmy is good for the vast majority of America, Christmas 2006 proved that again. FOR WHO? THE HAVES AND HAVE-MORES - MOST I KNOW SPENT LESS THIS YEAR BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T AFFORD TO BUY MORE.
3-Natural gas increase by 58%, that is alot!
GLAD YOU PULLED YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS LONG ENOUGH TO AGREE.
YES - HIGHER GAS COSTS EAT MORE INTO FAMILY HOUSEHOLD BUDGETS. BULLY FOR THOSE IN SOCAL.
5-Mexican border; point well taken there as I live in San Diego County and all the pols talk about immigration control, but only the Minutemen seem to be doing anythig about it. AGREED BUT SENDING WANNA-BE BORDER PATROL ISN'T THE ANSWER - FUNDING MORE PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT WOULD BE BETTER.
6-al Qaeda or some other nut group will be back, our gov't will blunder that up as we did the first World Trade Tower bombings and thos in Africa, etc. CHIMPY CERTAINLY HASN'T DONE ANYTHING TO MAKE US SAFER - UNSAFE IS MORE LIKE IT. GEE - DIDN'T THE CLINTON ADMIN BRING THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIRST WTC BOMBING TO JUSTICE ALREADY? AREN'T THEY ROTTING IN JAIL AS WE SPEAK?
7-The middle class in becoming extinct! YES, WE ARE BECOMING A DYING BREED.

As far as Al Qaeda goes or any other group, it's just a matter of time.
dt509er will be here all week, folks
That's obviously a joke. The economy is doing splendid if you're a CEO. The number of American citizens with "low food security" has increased.
"For full-tim[e], year round workers, the median earnings of men declined 1.8 percent to $41,386, and the median earnings of women declined 1.3 percent"
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/08/29/new-census-numbers/
"Taxes are lower" - for who? The working stiff, or the CEO? (Hint: the answer start with "C".) Since Reagan, the rethugs have tried to finance increased spending with tax cuts. Try doubling or tripling your expenses while your income goes down: is it easier or harder to pay your bills? Then, after they succeed in trashing the economy, they just blame the next Democratic administration for everything.
"I admit the debt is out of control." That's like saying I admit that Bush is "a little" slow. $8 TRILLION dollars, and they begrudgingly acknowledge it. It's obviously in the rethug playbook not to talk about it, or mention it in passing only. I have yet to get a single troll to address why our commander-in-thief turned a $5 Trillion SURPLUS (left by the way by their personal devil, Bill Clinton) into a $3 Trillion DEFICIT and climbing by the minute, thanks in no small part to the stupid war Bush and his cronies suckered the rethug minions into.
Al Quaeda has yet to make return visit? No thanks to the Bush administration. They always bring that up as if Bush has actually DONE something to prevent it. How many years was it between the first WTC bombing and 9/11? We are less safe than before. Remember, we responded to being attacked from Afghanastan by invading Iraq.
keep sucking on that crack pipe DumbThug
of course, Jessica Simpson probably looks just like your blow-up *date*.
And she wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. She's obviously not into pillsbury dough boys.

A Good Deal Of...
the reasoning for raising state taxes is the loss of revenue from federal programs. I know Rapublicans have a hard time seeing any reactions to their actions, but come on!
In a democracy, there are worse things than being offended.
You are attempting to explain
the state tax/federal tax issue to an idiot. Deeter doesn't understand the concept that when federal revenue is DOWN, funds that go back to the States are DOWN and the States must find alternate methods of making UP (i.e. raise taxes) for what the federal government is SHORTING the States.
some real economic lessons
Suppose someone left you an inheritance of a million dollars -- with the proviso that every cent of it had to be spent on tickets for you to go watch professional wrestling matches. If you happened to be a professional wrestling fan, you would be in hog heaven.
But what if you were not? How much would that million dollars be worth to you? Certainly a lot less than a million dollars.
What if there was a clause in the will which said that you could forfeit the million dollars and instead receive a cash amount of $100,000 to spend as you pleased? Many of us would take the hundred grand without strings, even if that was only ten cents on the dollar compared to the million for watching wrestling.
In short, money with strings is worth less than money without strings -- sometimes a lot less.
Many of us who receive money from Social Security or other government programs are learning the hard way the difference between money with strings and money without strings. For example, Social Security recipients have to be enrolled in Medicare, whether they want to be or not. "Universal" coverage means compulsory coverage, just with prettier political spin.
Those who are complaining about how hard it is to understand the new Medicare coverage seem not to realize that no government program voted into law by more than 500 members of Congress is going to be simple.
Everybody in Congress has his own pet notions or his own little claim to fame, and a lot of those pet notions and claims to fame have to go into the legislation, in order to get the votes needed to pass the law. The complications and restrictions are the strings attached to Medicare.
People who think that they are getting something for nothing, by having government provide what they would otherwise have to buy in the private market, are not only kidding themselves by ignoring the taxes that government has to take from them in order to give them the appearance of something for nothing. They are also ignoring the strings that are going to be attached to their own money when it comes back to them in government benefits.
That is not even counting the fact that government programs are usually less efficient than similar services provided by private enterprises.
Compare the service you get at the Department of Motor Vehicles with the service you get at Triple-A. No one who belongs to the American Automobile Association is likely to go to the DMV for a service that is also available through Triple-A.
Yet the illusion of something for nothing has kept the welfare state going -- and expanding. If there is something for sale in the marketplace for ten dollars and you would not pay more than five dollars for it, some politician can always offer to get it for you free -- as a newly discovered "basic right," or at least at a "reasonable" or "affordable" price.
Suppose that the "reasonable" or "affordable" price is three dollars. How do you suppose the government can produce something for three dollars that private industry cannot produce for less than ten dollars? Greater efficiency in government? Give me a break!
The fact that you pay only three dollars at the cash register means nothing. If it costs the government twelve dollars to produce and distribute what you are getting for three dollars, then the government is going to have to get another nine dollars in taxes to cover the difference.
One way or another, you are going to end up paying twelve dollars for something you were unwilling to buy for ten dollars or even six dollars. But so long as you think you are getting something for nothing, the politicians' shell game has worked and the welfare state can continue to expand.
The baby boomers, who are beginning to turn sixty, are unlikely to get back all the money they paid into Social Security, with or without strings. The illusion that Social Security can provide pensions more cheaply than a private annuity or other retirement plan is the grand something-for-nothing political triumph.
The baby boomers are going to pay the price big time.

Q: Where would hatey be without Thomas Sowell to copy and paste?
A: Why, sucking the teat of Ann Coulter, of course.

i'd still have elder williams steele etc
unlike you, I read scholars. and yes i do form my opinions, partially on what they say. I'd say they are more crediable, and intellegent than franken, moore, etal.
Scholars?
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Now that was a good one.

While I'm tempted to believe you're simply full of shit, I'll accept your claim that you read scholars.
But you'll never get me to believe you understand them.

and ann is no more
caustic than you are. but she is a lot more intelligent.
Man's being investigated for voter fraud ...
figures you'd admire her. Do you admire ANYONE who isn't being investigated for one thing or another??
so being investagated is what to you
hell, to me its a badge of courare.
Being investigated is a badge of courage for you ...
therefore, you admire criminals and condone criminal behavior. You might as well just hang yourself from the rafters now and call it a day. Wow - you're even MORE pathetically pitiful than I thought.
being investagated is not the same as being convicted, pookie
convicted. its amazing how you champion the american way but when the rubber hits the road, you don't really support what you claim to support. Question: how long has she been investagated?
whats the result of the investagation. Hey pookie your facism is showing.
Read the article on this blog
www.bradblog.com/?cat=4 Read the article highlighted from her hometown newspaper, you retard. Now where is my proof of your article retard?
so the great criminal ann the man coultier
may have voted in the wrong precinct. Big whoop. So in your book she's guilty? Just trying to understand your un-american mindset.
she's a crook, and a lying thieving transsexual
We already know how much you love the cock hatey. Especially if it's attached to a trannie trying to look like a white woman.

Hey you filthy dirty liar
Didnt you say the Dems are guilty of voter fraud. Here is a person involved daily in politics in this country and still does not know where to vote. You lying scumbag. It is OK when you fascists commit voter fraud? You dirty lying criminal. Hypocrite traitor to america.

Ooooooooo ... very profound hatemoron ... not.
Duh - I'm fully aware of the differences between being investigated and being convicted. I slam on Man for being under investigation for a couple of reasons - one, her psychotic blathering about voter fraud and two, because, like Chimpy & Co., she has stonewalled the investigation into her voter fraud. She's a fucking lawyer and you can NOT tell me that - given her "proficiency" (or lack thereof) in politics - SHE DID NOT KNOW IT IS ILLEGAL TO VOTE IN THE WRONG DISTRICT. And, if you believe that, then you really DO believe there is ocean-front property in Arizona.
She's been under investigation for a while now but again ... she's been STONEWALLING the entire time, thus, dragging out the investigation WAY beyond what it should have been.
Intelligent? Nah -- doesn't take brains to plagiarize
You've proven that time and again.
BTW -- I love the Sowell premise *Suppose you inherited a million dollars* --- bwahahahahahahah!!!!!!!
Yeah, and you say that with each and every lottery ticket you buy.
One good thing about the lottery tickets -- it furthers public education -- rather than buying new threads for your minister. Way to go hatesomemore!

dt - you must be either a "have" or a "have-more" ...
my taxes have acutally increased ... since the tax cuts, CT doesn't get any money back thus my property taxes have TRIPLED to pay for our schools here.
The economy SUCKS for the middle class - home sales and purchases are DOWN (EXCEPT those third and fourth homes so many in the middle class own and decide they don't need any more - DUH); stagnant wages yet CEO bonuses are OBSCENE; rising healthcare costs eating into household budgets, etc., etc., etc.
Al Qaeda hasn't made a return trip because we've been LUCKY. Not because Chimpy has made us safer - do you NOT pay attention to what has been REPEATEDLY reported over the last few months?
How pitiful that you should care that Jessica Simpson is single ... I'm guessing wishful thinking on your part.
DT's NEW YEAR WAKE UP CALL
Well howdy there dt, it's time for your new year wake-up call....
Acyually it appears that al Qaeda is a patsy like the American people.

CONSPIRACY THEORY
The only conspiracy theory regarding 9/11 is the official government explanation.

"..........monitor"
??? Thats what drug dealers say!!!!
When you can't get away with something there's always a monitor that made you do it, right?
Blame, blame, blame, cry, cry, cry excuse, excuse excuses. Nice game you play, boy.
Your classification is nothing short of childish, and puts you right on the top of the list of people to avoid at all cost.
can dish it out but cannot take it? Typical republicans
The only pussification that's happening here is the FACT that the Republicans cannot stand the fact that they are going to be given a taste of the crap they've forced the Dems to deal with for 6 years.
And they react like BABIES.
Listen to DT whine and cry -- no more schoolyard bullying allowed. AWWWWWWWW....

I say
congress should usurp enough authority to bring on a constitutional crisis. Maybe if W has to run around all day in a fury because he should be the decider, he won't have time to screw anything else up.
The only plausible way to do it
What really needs to happen here is that the Democrats need to push single-issue bills, hard and fast. No riders, no amendments. A bill to raise the minimum wage. Another bill to cut student-loan interest. Another bill to allow the government to negotiate for lower prescription-drug costs. Don't allow anything to be lumped in with anything else. That way, when each one comes up for a vote, the Congresscritters don't have anything to hide behind, and there can't be any poison pills slipped in to torpedo either a much-needed measure or a Congresscritter's political standing with their constituency.
If that doesn't happen, we're right back where we were when the g0p held the reins. And all I'll say if that happens is, "go, lemmings, go."
The author of the Iliad is either Homer or, if not Homer, somebody else of the same name. ~~~Aldous Huxley
The pussification?
Goddamn neo-cons, Fuck things up and point in the other direction. Follow the President and laugh at his inept barfly quips.
Good for the Dems...freeze the Replicants out.....and cram it
down their throats.
It will be interesting to see how the schoolyard bullies starting with Bush respond to being denied their customary "date rape" privileges.
I say just keep forcing needed changes down Bushes throat one single issue bill and subpoena at a time. With any luck they may stick in his craw with more permanence than that infamous pretzel.
f u bush2 may be right that these actions on the part of the Dems, and hopefully some of Republicans who are willing to put the countries best interests above their own will bring about a constitutional crisis.
For the edification of assholes like DT and Weasler etc..its called constitutional checks and balances.
FYI, the only pussification I smell around here is the stench of sulfur coming out of your piehole.
Of course the downside of this course of action, is that King George could suffer a complete psychotic break.
Removing his ass on medical grounds would be a whole lot easier than impeachment.
In the meantime, just keep him away from the "football".
promises of bipartisan cooperation
Fuck bipartisan ass-kissing.
just get the job done
One more for the road..Boz Scaggs
It's just a little red meat.
Pelosi is trying to temporarily calm the real Democrats in the party.
But you watch. After the attacks on Dean and Carter, it's easy to guess where Hoyer and Emanuel and Schumer and Lieberman will lead the party from now on.
And it ain't going to be pretty.
This suits me just fine.
I always thought that the Democratic party behaved like the kid who tries to reason with the bully before being punched in the nose. The rethugs are nothing but bullies, and it's time to deliver a good swift kick in the groin.
We Should Take...
the high road and be as inclusive as is praticle. We can drown out the whining when it turns into a drone. Why should we be like "them"?
In a democracy, there are worse things than being offended.
uh hun -- I want those measures PASSED
if it means cutting off the mikes on the Republican braying -- I'll provide the wirecutters.
Shut them DOWN and get to work on the country's needs.
Fuck the Republican party.

bras. I agree, but I think that we should get the things on our
agenda that are non-negotiable done first.
There are many other issues we will NEED their input on later. Right now there are too many "Must Do" items and too little time to allow any footdragging or stonewalling from the diehard ultra right.
Don't...
we have the votes, anyway?
In a democracy, there are worse things than being offended.
To me it is more about time
than anything else. If we allow them to present "alternative" plans on already settled non-negotiable issues it will just muddy up the water and require long debate.
I Was Hoping...
by them doing that, they'd come off as obstructionist sour grape fools, but I suppose they've already shown themselves to be much worse.
In a democracy, there are worse things than being offended.
There are plenty of other issues
Pelosi will use to establish them as obstructionist morons. The issues we are talking about pushing through are far to important to screw around with.
Plenty of time later for entertainment. Right now they have to work.
Rethuglicans ARE the obstructionist
thats why we have been stuck on these issues for so long. They do NOT want equality, civil rights, or living wage.
THey call Dems obstructionist because its a catch phrase for the followers. Its easy to remember and explains all in one word, but its about them not us. Reverse sphycology. It works.
hehe Bastiat, it still made sense when
I read that as, "reverse sphinctology"
http://www.sphincterpolice.com/
This Sphincter Police website was born out of the realization that there is a vast group of individuals suffering from Sphincter Police disorder. Some might say it was too early toilet training which led to overly tight sphincters. Others might say that people afflicted with this "disorder" are control freaks, or anal retentives or obsessive compulsives who want to be contagious.
The disorder can manifest in many forms, including:
* Fundamentalists who want you to live like them
* Scientists who can't see beyond their noses, where they have the words tattooed; peer-reviewed, double blind, randomized study.
* Lawn police, who tell you how long your grass should be, and that you can't grow weeds or wildflowers.
* Neighborhood fascists who tell you what color to paint your house.
* Culture nazis who try to tell you what art you like and which is appropriate.
* Teachers and administrators who force kids who don't sit like zombies to be on Ritalin.
* Dress code sphincter police.
* Neat nuts who clean ashtrays with each flick of the ash (I don't smoke, but they are out there.)
* Diagnosis polluters who label and diagnose just about everything and everyone.
One more for the road..Boz Scaggs

hey dter did you read that one? Your all over the place

You too Brutus!
they've already stated they would take any opportunity
to OBSTRUCT the Dems succeeding -- I think it was Frist or one of the other tinhats that said that.
Why give them the opportunity?
Shutting them down gets work done - and also puts the fear of God into weathervanes like Lieberman who will be standing with a wet finger in the middle of Congress -- looking for which way the wind is blowing. He needs to be reminded of his *place* too.

I like that.
I am also a little pissed off at the treatment of our constitution and our economic security, and overall personal security. All of which was deliberatly passed on to private companies for profitable gains and good lobbying jobs for departed (if not jailed) politicians.
Two things that should be looked at is the public financeing of elections, and the revolving door policy.
A lot can be accomplished moderately once the competition of power and perks is eliminated. The corporation already have represenatives they are Lawyers and they are usually already in court suing other companies. It is we the people that now need representation.
Dems, change the system and the country will follow. Been done before. FDR got RE-elected how many times?
Will this (PLEASE) make O'Reily's head explode?
Can I have a New Years present? Can they tape his head exploding -- please?????
