Pentagon Report Slams ‘Dubious’, ‘Unreliable’ Pre-War Intel

News:
A long-awaited report from the Pentagon’s inspector general singles out pre-war intelligence worked up by the office of former defense official Douglas Feith – and propagated enthusiastically by the White House – as being of “dubious quality or reliability”. Feith’s interpretation of existing analyses was so politically driven, the report contends, that it amounted to “an alternative intelligence assessment process.” Feith’s defense: “In presenting it I was not endorsing its substance.”

Gee, yet another surprise

Feith was one of the most powerful behind-the-scenes guys who were pushing for the war in Iraq. I can't recall if he was part of PNAC, although he probably was. Let's see how the repubs spin this now. I did notice the mainstream media said that what was done may have been immoral, but not illegal. I guess that is the best defense they have for now.

If that is their defense then the MSM

is an accomplise to criminal activity. No?

Another report that puts down on paper the facts, and we knew it all along that the skipper the helm is a fucking liar. Is the country speaking a differnent english or is the home schooling realy kicking in?

I haven't read the report

but Feith's defense and the MSM's comments are pretty shaky. I don't know if it would be possible to go after them in a court of law, but I think we are well past the time when we need to get the special prosecutor law re-established, and begin digging deeper into some of the things Waxman has been investigating.

I wish someone in the gov. would hold the MSM

accountable, but that would be biting the hand that feeds them. Right?

Any idiot, 'cept the trolls, could see this a mile away. The MSM and the elected morons are part of the same club. One cannot move on without the other.

Stock tip of the day. The upcoming presidential election will put $2,000,000,000.00 into someone elses pockets. Find out who, make and investment, and collect your ill gotten games.

The media

is spinning it for them. It's not "illegal" just "inappropriate". I assume they are getting this information from bush's attorneys.

Interesting how the MSM is spinning this ...

in attempting to excuse Chimpy & Co. ... bet if it was a Dem administration, they'd be calling for the guillotine.

"I encourage you all to go shopping more." George "Chimpy" Bush, 12/20/06.

The administration, the congress, the courts

and the media are all wholly-owned subsidiaries of the multinational corporations. They all play for the same team.

Well I see spinning as ILLEGAL becaue it is a breech

of trust. The MSM exist for the pleasure of us, and beholden to the trust created and maintained.

THe trust is broken and should be aggressively put to the test of legality. As are all lawsuits. There may not be a criminal act, but definatly a civil one.

-------------------
While he was/is not a listed nor signing member of PNAC, he was the head of the Office of Special Plans (OSP) that handled the stovepiping of misleading intel in the run-up to the Iraqnam invasion.
And, if you like acronyms, his direct subordinate was one of the folks involved in the AIPAC spying scandal.

What a mangled web they weave.

Anyone But Hillary!

I knew he was very big with the right wing zionist

group like wolfowitz, netanyahu, etc., who really wanted to remake the middle east into a place that Israel could dominate both militarily and economically. Israel already has enough nukes to destroy every single enemy in that region of the world, but economically, they are dependent on large sums of US foreign aid to keep afloat. If they could have economic control over some of the oil reserves, they would be set. Without actually invading an oil-producing nation themselves, I am sure they did what they are expert at doing, goading the US into doing their dirty work for them. They probably felt that after we took down Iraq, they could get Israeli interests into the new puppet government and american-dominated businesses in Iraq, and get behind-the-scenes control of Iraqi oil.

The neo-cons keep saying

The neo-cons keep saying that Bush evaluated the intelligence and acted in our best interests. This reports supports the notion that they LIED to support a political view and I quote "buttress the White House case for invading Iraq included "reporting of dubious quality or reliability" that supported the political views of senior administration officials rather than the conclusions of the intelligence community"

That sounds like they lied to me.

To Bush, poor is

I personally would not vote for anyone born into the upper class these days, as they have demonstrated they have neither the life experience or desire to help the average american. That doesn't mean I wouldn't vote for someone who is rich now, as everyone who is a politician is pretty well off because of the way our political system operates. Besides, if they started out farther down on the economic ladder, they may be able to see both sides of the coin when they get into power. Just an opinion and observation.

I have always said that Bush has no concept of money. He has always been rich, and has never been without it, and can afford to buy anything he wants. As a result, he actually believes that if he gives you a $400 tax "rebate", you can pay your kid's tuition or your mortgage with that amount. And talk about Welfare? When did ever have to do real work (even now)?

I also remember what House Speaker Tip O'Neil said of Saint Ronny Reagan: "I never forgot where I came from, and he did."

When did ever have to do real work

I feel the need to feed.

Our generation has a chance to reclaim some essential values, to show we have grown up before we grow old. But when the moment for leadership came, this administration did not teach our children, it disillusioned them.

They had their chance. They have not led. We will.

And now they come asking for another chance, another shot. Our answer: Not this time, not this year.

This is not the time for third chances; it is the time for new beginnings.

The rising generations of this country have our own appointment with greatness. It does not rise or fall with the stock market. It cannot be bought with our wealth. Greatness is found when American character and American courage overcome American challenges.

When Lewis Morris of New York was about to sign the Declaration of Independence, his brother advised against it, warning he would lose all his property. But Morris, a plainspoken founder, responded, ''Damn the consequences, give me the pen.''

That is the eloquence of American action. We heard it during World War II when General Eisenhower told paratroopers on D-Day morning not to worry. And one replied, ''We're not worried, General. It's Hitler's turn to worry now.''

We heard it in the civil rights movement, when brave men and women that did not say, ''We shall cope,'' or ''We shall see.'' They said, ''We shall overcome.''

An American president must call upon that character.

This is not the time for third chances

"I encourage you all to go shopping more." George "Chimpy" Bush, 12/20/06.

CNN

aka the Conservative News Network is actually comparing Smith to Marilyn Monroe. I agree the Smith fancied herself as a contemporary Monroe, but there is biting distinction here. Monroe had talent.

I wish they would stop playing up this story so much

They act as if this is a tragedy for this country. It is totally insignificant. Bush and Cheney must be thrilled, as they know this and the astronaut diaper case will grab the headlines instead of Iraq, Iran, the Libby trial, the Waxman hearings, the missing money in Iraq, the Blackwater hearings, the possible legal problems for Cheney, and a host of other things.

Agreed

We are actually mourning a tramp that screwed her way into a fortune made from oil?

Nice little distraction from the shoddy coverage of the libby trial.

How convenient that this

occured just as the Libby trial is shifting to the defense portion of the trial, and the VP will be on the stand testifying under oath.

Actually

Based on what I heard last night, Libby's attorneys are re-thinking the wisdom of having Cheney testify. Something about "damning them both", from what I picked up. At any rate, it's now doubtful that Cheney will take the stand. By extension, that means Libby's going to be the Official Admuddlestration Scapegoat, and will take the fall for everyone else.

...at least, until the next round of investigations kicks in.

Wasn't it Ambassador Wilson who made some statement about Rove being marched out of the White House in handcuffs? Maybe we'll live to see that happen after all. And just maybe, Rove will just be the head of the parade.

I'm just sayin'...

There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you. ~~~Will Rogers

Cheney is most afraid of testifying

under oath, as that would most likely open him up to perjury charges. Even so, there is already enough testimony and evidence in this trial to file conspiracy to commit perjury charges against him. Reports have resurfaced that Fitzgerald obtained a sealed indictment against Cheney a year ago, but preferred to do nothing until the Libby trial was over. People in Fitzgerald's office say that he would prefer not to take Cheney to trial, as he believes the proper way to handle Cheney rests with the political process, not the judicial process. Sounds like he is a bit too timid. I don't think Ken Starr ever thought that way.

I don't think Ken Starr ever thought that way.

Ken Starr was a rabid pitbull, foaming at the mouth and all for Clinton's dick.

I'm kinda bummed Cheney may not testify ... I truly wanted that evil fuck to have to sit on the stand and PERJURE HIMSELF.

I hope the reports are right - that Fitzgerald's got a sealed indictment against Darth; and I hope he's got the kahona's to pursue it ... in the name of justice, it NEEDS to be pursued. I'm not quite sure I follow the "letting the political process" handle Darth ... how is that better than treating him like the criminal he IS?

"I encourage you all to go shopping more." George "Chimpy" Bush, 12/20/06.

I don't think Fitzgerald has the balls to do what needs

to be done next. He is whistling past the graveyard in hopes that something in the political arena will get Cheney to quit. That ain't gonna happen. If he is afraid, go out and find someone else who has the drive and intelligence to get the job done right.

Wasn't Fitzgerald THE golden boy in the beginning?

Not to argue, but IIRC wasn't Fitzgerald the ONLY one with the balls to do what he is doing right now?

IF he has an indictment I hope to god he goes after that bastard. Because as far as the other prosecutors are concerned -- they let the rental fees on their cajones lapse 6 years ago.

I didn't call her names

but I did say the furor over her death was completely unnecessary and out of place. We didn't even have this kind of frenzy when Katherine Hepburn died, and she was arguably one of the finest actresses of our age. We should put this in perspective. She is like Paris Hilton, famous for being famous, but no one can define why she was famous.

no you didn't, but another poster was pretty vitriolic

and that just buys into all the false hype being blown up.

Yes, she was NO entertainer. She made her living being eye candy for men. That does NOT warrant being called a whore. Especially when pretty yet slow girls like her are told it is OKAY to sell yourself for money and fame.

And I'll shut up because I don't want to rant about stereotypes.

But WE are buying in to the BULLSHIT of MSM speculation when we need to shut that down and keep our eyes on the ball.

And I agree with you -- the hype should have been when Kate died. She was an awesome actress and someone with class that young women could truly emulate. A GOOD role model.

I personally grieve for the kid ANS gave birth to in October. As ditzy as Anna was, that little girl will grow up without her. That's not easy for ANY child.

If you cannot show some compassion for the mother, show it for the child and save the rude comments for the republicans.

You are absolutely correct.
Marrying an 89 year old man, with a couple of hundred million dollars, when she was 26 would be what warrants her being called a whore.

My issues with Ms. Smith were that she represented an answer to the eternal question:

" Why do they hate us?"

Getting paid have sex makes

Getting paid have sex makes her a whore. The fact that she believed she had a right to any of her husband's money for being married for less than 18 months makes her a whore. She is the type of woman that make men resent women. She offered nothing and expected everything just because she was good-looking.

You're way off base

I'll grant that sex for money makes someone a whore. But I don't ever remember seeing anything about her actually having sex for money, her original employment as a stripper notwithstanding.

A gold-digger, yes...she married Marshall for money, and expected to receive a lot of his estate when he died. That particular argument was still running through the court system as of yesterday, although it's now been rendered largely moot, with the possible exception of inheritance for her baby daughter. Settling that argument is the job of people who can put "J.D." after their names, not for the likes of you or I (unless you happen to be an attorney).

Whore? Doubtful. Gold-digger? Doubtless. But as I said, the issue's moot at this point. Ding-dong, the bitch is dead...let it drop and refocus on what's really important.

'Nuff said.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It only wastes your time and annoys the pig. ~~~unknown

Whore doubtful?

LOL. You must not have heard of the paternity suits to try to claim the riches from her surviving child. Not aware of monogamous relationships that require paternity suits to see who gets to cash in.

Sex for money? I will admit I would need a pretty large degree of compensation to screw a female more than 60 years my senior. there is something about gravity and wrinkles that tends to be a natural sexual turn off.

How many 80 year olds did she date when her husband croaked?

Again obsessing over someone else's paternity suit?

I think you've developed a FAR more personal obsession with this woman's story than you'd care to admit.

Or are you just a mouth-breathing mysoganist?

I am not sure why

you are referring to my responses to responses of my original post as an obsession.

This story will die soon as will my interest in it.

Explaining in detail why my original reference to her is not namecaling does not represent an obsession.

The only reason I made the first post is because the story is disgustingly all over the news and represents yet another corporate media distraction from the important issues.

My first post was an attempt to put the significance of the story in proper perspective. I enjoy the responses to that original post and the different opinions and enjoy posting my responses to those responses.

I don't sit around thinking about money grubbing whores in the general population, just those elected to office that continue to screw us over.

Now quit calling me names. :)

Perhaps

...but the point remains that she's dead, and I'm not mourning her. I feel a lot sorrier for her daughter, and I hope the Marshall family, her partner, and her photographer can all sit down and work something out to make sure she's cared for properly. Forgive me if I don't hold my breath, though...there's at least one lawyer in the mix already.

Nothing more need be said...ding-dong, the bitch is dead. ~~~Ares, "The Bitter Suite"

And she

probably represents the majority of females that call limbaugh's and hannities shows.

They should take an example from this.

It is not her death that

causes me to characterize her as a whore, it is what she did when she was alive. It is not her death that causes me to characterize her as a gold digger, it is what she did when she was alive.

Ironic that you would be complaining about name calling. You are the pro.

Ok let me retract those names.

Anna Nicole Smith was a hard working average american that used the gifts God gave her to achieve a decent living. Sad that such a great American that contributed so much to society had to leave us at such a young age.
I find it disgusting that her dead husband's family would strive to deprive her of the inheritance she so greatly deserved after the trial and tribulations and dedication to her marriage of one year to a guy more than 60 years older than her. How could anyone not think this was true love? How dare this family assault her in her time of horrible grief when it was clear she continued to suffer long after his death. May the paternity suits over her surviving child bring justice to those that deserve it. She will be sorely missed.

After reviewing my post

in all sincerity using the word "tramp" was name calling. I stand corrected.

I will also agree my joke was not a nice one and if that offended you, I apologize. I appreciate the quality content that you bring to this blog and your points are valid.

"I encourage you all to go shopping more." George "Chimpy" Bush, 12/20/06.

When will we stop idolizing movie stars and other

entertainers? I am so tired of seeing people that are no better, and sometimes worse than many of the people in our everyday lives, being treated as if they are gods come down to earth. Marilyn was a beautiful, troubled woman who made a few movies, nothing more or less. If you need to idolize anyone, (and I hope you don't), at least choose a writer or director, who creates the whole story on the screen. I know that actors and writers all depend on one another, but my personal bias is that the writers and directors are the most creative of the bunch.

Entertainer

Who did she entertain? At least Marilyn made movies.

Perhaps I gave her too much credit by lumping her in

with entertainers. I should have really lumped her in with Paris Hilton and K-Fed, people who are famous for being famous, but no one really knows why they are famous. They have no known talents, make no contributions to society in any discernable way, but seem to have lots of money, and lots of parties.

She acted like she was famous with a huge entourage, but I kept saying what has she ever done but marry a rich man.

PARIS HILTON!!!!!!!!

What has SHE ever done except fuck her way through Hollywood??!!

Isn't it utterly disgusting the way people just FAWN all over these celebrities? I mean ... they have to sit to shit like everyone else!

I agree Uff - too much focus on these idiots and not enough focus on the TRUE brains in Hollywood, i.e.: writers, directors.

I am sooooooooooooo LUCKY my daughter doesn't idolize these assholes. She enjoys the music, she enjoys the movies and the tv shows ... but idolize the stars? No ... she's a wee bit more grounded in reality than that.

"I encourage you all to go shopping more." George "Chimpy" Bush, 12/20/06.

I would say not to idolize anyone

because everyone is human, and so they can make mistakes and disappoint you. The truly good people out there who make contributions to society and the rest of the world show us what we can all be if we just take the time and make the effort. Everyone can be a hero to someone, even with a simple gesture or gift. I worked in non-profits for many years, in many capacities, and though the pay wasn't great, the people I helped made up for it in so many ways.
