News:
Senator Arlen Specter, the senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales might choose to resign rather than face the “historical black mark” that a potential no-confidence vote in the Senate could represent. Senate Democrats say they plan to bring such a resolution to the floor as soon as this week.
I do belive,
That instead of a Noconfidence vote that they should start empeachment agaisnt Gonzo so that way he can never hold a place of honor ever again in the nation.

I think if we get bogged down impeaching Gonzo
We won't get around to impeaching the big criminals in the White House.
What's the point of investigating if
we wimp out when it comes to impeachment? We should impeach whoever needs impeaching. If we don't get them all before the next election, it's still better than all of them walking free.
Ok Michtou
Sometimes you have to get the small fish to get the larger ones to bite. And Gonzo is medium sized, and hopefully he would spill the beans on his boss. If not he will never hold another job of honor that requires honesty.

This is just a distraction, "American Idol" for the politically
aware.
We are being hosed. Bush, Cheney and the rest will never pay.
This is the way of things, it always has been.
You would think an AIM member would be able to see through the bullshit.

Centerista,
There is two paths that congress can take one the first the easy one the no confindence vote wich will do nothing and gonzo will still be the AG. Then there is a second even though it is harder and dangerous it is the right path to take and impeach gonzo for the misgiving that he has done to the nation.
As far as bush and cheney they will get thiers in the end. Karma has a way that will bite them in the ass at one time or many for what they put out there.
Now for the real reason for the impeachment of gonzo. If you are Native American then you have a 2000 times more likly to have your vote not counted. If you are black or latino then you have a 1000 times more likely to have your vote not counted. What they was trying to do was make anyone of color to have mistrust in the voting booth and not vote and that one fact is enough for me to want to have this man impeached.

Agreed, but Gonzo was the means, not the end. The end was
for the NeoCons to gain control of the Executive and Legislative to further the PNAC agenda and steal as much as possible.
After all, what is the REAL reason for winning an election? I am sorry about your vote, but Gonzo is not the enemy. He is a pawn. There are a million Gonzos out there. All would sell their souls to be AG. The one who is buying the souls is Cheney. He is the enemy. Who do you think Gonzo is getting his instructions from?
If all this does not result in Impeachment of Cheney and Bush, it is all for show.

I'm torn on the issue of impeachment. In a perfect world, Gonzo, Cheney and Bush could all be impeached in one fell swoop and it would take just a day.
But as somebody noted, getting bogged down in impeachment takes attention away from other issues that effect people. Like minimum wage, health care, just to name a couple.
What would help America more, impeaching these assholes or passing some good legislation?
Don't confuse my indecision on this as support for anybody in this administration. As I said, if we could get them out quickly that would be perfect. But what potential legislation suffers and dies on the vine that could have otherwise been passed if we opt to persue length impeachment procedures against these clowns?
-- If it hurts, it's probably true --
If we don't pursue impeachment now, in a case that was
exactly what the founding fathers created it for, then we might as well just get rid of impeachment all together. If it is good enough to use on a president because he had consentual sex with an adult, then it is definitely good enough for an administration that has sullied the reputation of america and the executive branch for years to come. Giving them a free pass should make it almost impossible to hold the chief executive accountable for anything, and I mean anything.
Us citizens in general view impeachment as a 'last resort'
I say it's in the constitution for a reason. It should be used more often.

It should be used more often...........and ALOT sooner!!! Is it time to rapture these fake christians yet?
takes attention away from other issues?
That is all this do nothing congress has done. With all of their nonbinding resolutions and passing appropriations bills that they know will be vetoed.
All this congress is about is politics. They could care less about the average citizen.
Wasn't the last election about ending the Iraqi war? So, have they voted to defund the war?

For someone who supposedly went to Harvard and MIT
(I'm still laughing my ass off over that one), you seem to have a very tenuous grasp of how the government works, and of basic mathematics. Let me explain this to you in a manner that a highly intelligent and educated person such as yourself can understand. The congress is composed of two bodies, the House of Representatives and the Senate. In order for a bill to pass, the House needs a simple majority. That means that a margin of just one vote is enough to pass a bill. Got that? OK, now the Senate also needs just a simple majority to pass a bill. Got that? I hope so. Now, the hard part. The president can veto a bill. Veto means he can decide not to go along with the bill. This is different than a signing statement, which will be covered in a more advanced class. If the president vetoes the bill, then the Senate can override that veto; in other words, they can tell him that they don't care if he likes it or not, he has to sign it. That requires 60 votes. Now, get out your calculator, abacus, or borrow the fingers and toes of a few friends. There are 51 democrats in the Senate. If they passed a bill to defund the war, and every democrat voted in favor of that bill, it would go to the president. The president would then veto the bill. What does that mean again? It means the president won't sign the bill and make it law. If it then returns to the Senate, and all democrats vote to override the veto, once again they will have 51 votes. Now, which number is bigger? 51 or 60? If you guessed 51, you need to go back to Dogpatch U and take that basic arithmetic course again. If you said 60, then you may just understand why the democrats can't defund the war. Class dismissed.

Defunding the war
Why should Congress defund it when Bush is doing a fine job of defunding it all by himself?
I pick impeachment. No
I pick impeachment. No matter what kind of good legislation the houses try to pass, the chimp in chief thief will simply block it. remove him and you can get a whole stack of good legislation turned into law in minutes. dont waste your time trying to look good and build a rep for trying to look good. get mean. grow balls. go for their jugulars, and dont let go. make em work for it. the current way things are going will only promise to be dems chasing reps down a deeper hole when we already have enough to throw these bums in jail for life. get em outta the way and then start introducing meaningful legislation.
its pretty obvious his approval rating has bottomed out. now-a-days, he could sneeze and get a bump in the polls. thats how low he is. this lame duck is cooked, take it outta the oven so we can eat already! put him and cheney on the grill right now. no legislation dies on vines during impeachment. they just get shelved to be reintroduced later. this man can get no meaner. he's an abusive husband and needs the cops called on him and lady liberty needs to put a restraining order on his ass.
Worst President Ever!
Impeachment
Whether Speedy Gonzales or the big boys, if and when impeachment proceedings begin they will defend themslelves and deny everything, right up to the point where, like Nixon, it is clear they will be found guilty. Then they will, like Nixon, resign in disgrace. When they resign the proceedings will stop, like they did for Nixon. To proceed would look like persecution for the Dems and the Repubs would never go along once the subject is out of office.
Gonzo Goes Away?
AY-freakin'-MEN!
but there's one smallish problem regarding impeachment:
the lack of BIG HAIRY BALLS and/or a BONA-FIDE SPINAL COLUMN in the physiology of these Democrats!
Imagine if all the crap that has befallen this admin. (from the stolen 2000 election to the bribes ((wahh, wahh....my name is the Duke-Stir))to Gonzo-Gate) happened under ANY Dem Prez's tenure, and the GOP was the majority in Congress.
Man, those mean GOP prick bastards (iamgine...DeeLay, et. al.) would bring back Torquemada, from the grave, in order to make the Dems pay.
But the Dems today? Fughedabouit. They're too worried about their corporate patrons to do anything substantial.

So, who will replace him?
Who will Bush appoint to replace him? That's what we should be thinking about. If Bush's solution is to appoint another insane-yet-loyal crony, we haven't solved the problem. We should launch a concerted effort to call on Bush to appoint a Democrat to the position. Politicians under pressure have been known to do that, to promote the appearance of interest in balance. We simply need to apply the pressure.

I think the plan is that during the next recess of congress Bush will make the following appointments:
Gonzo will go to the UN
Wolfie will become the AG
Bolton will go to the world bank
Rumsfeld will keep harrasing people at the DoD
Bush's Summer Hires Targeted
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/politics/washingtonwhispers/070520/bushs_su...
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a little trick up his sleeve that could spell an end to President Bush's devilish recess appointments of controversial figures like former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton. We hear that over the long August vacation, when those types of summer hires are made, Reid will call the Senate into session just long enough to force the prez to send his nominees who need confirmation to the chamber. The talk is he will hold a quickie "pro forma" session every 10 days, tapping a local senator to run the hall. Senate workers and Republicans are miffed, but Reid is proving that he's the new sheriff in town.

Sellout Democrats
There is a bigger question, beyond the Democrats' selling out on the Iraq occupation (not "war") defunding matter. Maybe the Dems did something reasonably good by substituting the Republican-blocked minimum-wage increase (tho they should have made it a lot more then $2) and whatever other social spending matters, for the troop withdrawal deadline. After all, the Repub's were going to try to stop EVERYTHING that's good for people instead of their corporate whores. So maybe with such a thin margin in both houses, this is the only way the Dems can get THOSE things through.
But my big worry is this: the Iraq occupation continues, troops are put into death traps for nothing, the US is forced to sell more Treasury Notes to China which is financing this historical error, and when Bush finally finds that he needs more bodies in the military than he has to redeploy for an eleventh time, he's going to need a MILITARY DRAFT.
And who is going to stop a new DRAFT? The Democrats? HA HA HA. They'll sell out every time and our kids will pay the price.
Possible Gonzales Resignation
Even if Alberto Gonzales resigns, the probe into the operation of the Justice Department under this administration should continue. Any criminal or unethical activity should be punished to the full extent of the law.
