US Commander: More Iraqis Need To Fight

News:

Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, who until recently led the U.S. military's training effort in Iraq said yesterday that Iraq will have to provide at least 20,000 more additional troops then first recommended in order to help free up American troops from different aspects of the invasion. He told the House Armed Services Committee that since the level of violence is so high many Iraqis are longing for the days of Saddam’s rule, “You'll hear people say, 'You know, we were a lot more secure and safe during the Saddam regime."

How's about that SURGE!?

It's ok Iraqis, we're never REALLY going to leave, we'll just (somehow, possibly using magic and pulling it out of Bush's Ass) come up with another 20,000 AMERICAN troops to send in. It's worked so well this first time around that we're gonna go for a sequel.

Well, isn't Dempsey just so perceptive.

Good luck with getting those 20K Iraqi soldiers.

I watched this when it first aired a few months ago. VERY telling piece indeed.

Funny that we don't hear too much about Bremer these days ... wonder if the little coward is hiding. Although, I'm sure he can hide very well ... just as well as that missing $9 billion. Can you say "Swiss Bank Account"?

He's another rat bastard who should be shipped back to Iraq so he can enjoy what he's sown.

more Iraqis need to fight,

or less Iraqis need to fight us???Is it time to rapture these fake christians yet?

If they were serous......

They would send in half a million or more troops.

As things stand right now, the 'so called' "SURGE"is only lip service.

If they were serious to BEGIN with ...

Chimpy & Co. would have listened to everyone telling them they needed at least 200K troops to start with from the get go.

The only "surging" that will take place, regardless how many troops they send in, are the number of soldiers wounded or dead.

More Iraqis need to fight?

I thought the problem was too many Iraqis are ALREADY fighting. That's how civil wars work.

"propoganda"

lame so lame.

I have some proof for you,
statement.
AAR and the like have no clue on what truth is.

The MNF-Iraq site posts BOTH good and BAD reports, so my statement is proven true as they are not only telling one sided reports.

Thats how sick and low life you dems-libs-progressives are when it comes to the truth.

of Saddam having WMDs. Bush said he had them for sure. Now provide proof. It is SHAMEFUL for you to keep lying about america like you do. You make me sick.

Who cares now, too late,

Who cares now, too late, leaving is the least moral thing to do now.

I care now!

The war was based on lies and never should have happened. There already is a slaughter caused by Bush. Why do you want more american soldiers slaughtered? If america leaves now, the soldiers live and the Iraqis fight it out in their civil war. I knew you had no proof of WMDs. Everything you post is a blatant lie!

Say you had a particularly violent day in Iraq and Fox News covered Paris Hilton all day long ...

It's something like that but the term as I know it suggests a concerted effort by conspirators and their agencies to distract folks from what's really going on.

Thanks frazzled.....

All that in 4 days? I thought things were getting better. Quetron just showed us how bad it is. Think about it. In four days time all those plots were thwarted. And add to that the amount of violence that occured (wasn' stopped).

Over the next four days there will be more of the same. Face it folks. There is a never ending supply of violence in store for us in Iraq.

Lets be accurate.

Where the term 'Iraqi forces' is used, we should actually refer to these as uniformed Shiite militias sponsored by the puppet government and the occupiers.

Where the term 'coalition' is used, this should be referred to as the bush regime occupiers or US military hostages.

Where the terms 'terrorists' and 'Al Kaeda' are used, these should be referred to as the anti-occupation, anti-shiite domination liberation forces.

Nice try though.

Okay, I think you have a lot

Okay, I think you have a lot of it wrong. Most of the population is Shi'a (Shi'ite, as you incorrectly call them). So how can a minority of Sunni, who used to be the supporters of Saddam Hussein, be called the liberation forces? The Shi'a and the Sunnis both want the US out, and I think they both believe the US forces are fair game. The US is supporting the Sunnis right now (the minority, who used to be Saddam supporters), although at first they supported the Shi'a. They do this because this is what the Sunnis in Saudi Arabia tell them to do. The US, however, has a problem because the puppet government they put up is mostly Shi'a. So they can't really go against them. Instead, they are blaming the Iranians for the problems they are having with the Shi'as, minimizing what the Sunnis are doing, even though they are causing most of the problems, allowing the Saudis to arm the Sunnis and Al Qaeda. The only benchmark the US cares about is the signing of a treaty that gives the oil to US companies. Once that is done, they will attack Iran and let Iraq go to hell.

Which sect

makes up the vast majority of the Iraqi forces and the Iraqi police? Shiites. As you pointed out the Sunnis are the minority. I think I covered the notion of anti-occupation. The shiite anti-occupation forces are Sadr's and yes, some of the Shiites within the Iraqi forces and police.

I also think that Sunnis, being in the minority without a secular dictator to protect them, realize who will dominate Iraq if we ever leave, and the Shiites have demonstrated over and over their willingness to kill Sunnis. I think this is why many refer to this as a civil war.

The Sunnis are not only fighting against and occupation whose invasion opened the door of Shiite retribution for 20+ years of oppression, they are also fighting for their lives against the dominant Shiite majority that is already carrying out that retribution.

The reasons for the appearance of support for the Sunnis currently by the bush regime is to bow down to Saudi Arabia and to ensure prolongation of the smokescreen civil war, since the Shiites were doing such a great job of killing Sunnis. They were too effective and the civil war was progressing faster than the oil contract coercion.

To slow the civil war progress, bush needs the Sunnis to be more competitive.

Since most of the attacks on

Since most of the attacks on civilians have been by Sunnis against Shi'as, I disagree with your assessment.

Unprovoked

I am sure.

It depends on how you define civilian and ethnic cleansing as well. Since Shiites make up most of the uniformed dudes and most of the Sunnis make up the un-uniformed dudes, the latter are conveniently referred to as insurgency or terrorists, and bush takes that one step further referring to them as Al Kaeda.

There is something causing hundreds of thousands of Sunni 'terrorists' to have to flee and try to relocate in predominantly Sunni regions. I don't think it is a desire to leave their homes because the housing market is wonderful in other areas.

We are seeing the weaker minority respond in a predictable way. Where the Shiites have been given nice shiny new uniforms and weapons, not to mention US military instruction and support, the Sunnis, until recently, were left to fend for themselves from the armaments that were conveniently left to be taken in the aftermath of the invasion.

This did not include night vision goggles, armed vehicles, fighter jets or bombers. It did include firearms and munitions that, as we have seen, have been converted into a variety of bombs.

We only need to look at history to tell us what a weak militia will do to combat a superior military power they cannot stand toe to toe with. The always resort to terrorist tactics in an effort to get the most bang for their buck.

Not only were the Sunnis the instant underdogs once Hussein fell, their opponents had the advantage of working side by side with the best military in the world and had a reason to be pissed at the Sunnis.

The Sunnis realize that their days are numbered in Iraq if they don't stop the Shiite puppet government from taking hold.

The Shiites, on the other hand, are grateful for that support, but are not real happy with the bush regime stealing their oil, but they are not powerful enough alone to force the occupation out, and their puppet leaders don't have the balls to insist on this publicly, because they will either be replaced or simply disappear in the chaos.

Superficially the uniformed Shiites are kissing ass, but covertly, they to are doing their part to inflict punishment on the occupation. The sooner the occupation is over, the sooner they can eliminate the Sunnis and take all the oil, and they don't appreciate the occupiers recently beefing up their competition.

I DON'T GET IT.

WHAT IS YOUR POINT??

I already know that Iraq is in chaos.

More Iraqis need to Fight

Unfortunately for the US, the Iraqis who are willing to fight and die are those opposing the Occupation.

LOL

No shit. He should probably specify.

Yeah? Too damn bad they opt to fight US when opportuity

knocks.

These generals are now taking on the Iraq fiasco and making it as much - or more - a military failure as a political one. Boy, I hope they never set foot in our academes.
