Voinovich And Lugar Express Doubt On Iraq

News:

Sen. George V. Voinovich (R-Ohio), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, sent a letter to Bush yesterday with great concern on the current war in Iraq. He asked Bush to develop "a comprehensive plan for our country's gradual military disengagement…I am also concerned that we are running out of time." Sen. Voinovich was not the only republican to express skepticism about the Bush’s Iraq strategy; Sen. Lugar, who spoke on the Senate floor said, “"In my judgment, the costs and risks of continuing down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be achieved…Persisting indefinitely with the surge strategy will delay policy adjustments that have a better chance of protecting our vital interests over the long term."

Bush's response

Bush response: "We're looking into it. I'm having discussions. I'm taqlking to people on the ground to develop a stra teg y."

Response to Bush from thinking people: "Spare us the platitudes".

Response to Bush from his supporters: "Well that's taken care of. Nothing to worry about. And stop hating America."

One question

Are Voinovich and Lugar up for re-election this cycle?

Answer that, and we may have an idea of why they're willing to take this stance.

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. ~~~Robert A. Heinlein

Oh come now

They're just repubulicans demonstrating the courage of their convictions and showing their dedication to the rule of law! I mean clearly they are the party of Law & Order and are not interested in the business of nation-building like Clinton Clinton Clinton Clinton Clinton Clinton...are you distracted yet? no?...Clinton Clinton Clinton...

To be honest, I don't know if they're up for reelection or not, but it wouldnt' surprise me.

Voinovich...Ohio...2008...yep

Mike DeWine got taken out last election, replaced by Sherrod Brown.

 One election at a time......

I would be very wary of trusting politicians who have

supported Bush and his disastrous war and are now saying they aren't quite so supportive any more. If there weren't a big election coming up next year, and if the repubs hadn't had their asses handed to them over Iraq last year, then they would still be the "stay the course" republicans they have always been. Yes, they may actually believe the war is a failure now, but that doesn't excuse their support for the deaths of thousands of US troops, the looting of our treasury, and the destruction of our country's reputation around the world. Like all neocons and their enablers, they have plenty to answer for, and they aren't going to like how that turns out in November 08.

just to funny

Voinovich was on chicken little hannity today.and he tried his yes and no questions.voinovich told him i dont care how many people you have call my office i vote the way i think is right.not you or anybody else tells me how to vote.I'm sorry cant finnish i'm still lol

I left Indiana 25 years ago....but iI voted for luger......

I don't always agree with Lugar, but he DOES listen to his constituants, right or wrong. I respect him for that. Good thing he's not running for pres, 'cause he'd give the repub candidates and the democrats a run for their money.

I wouldn't vote for him (I'm a registered independant) for pres, if he ran, because of his record of siding with his party over what is right.

Maybe he's remembering his roots? Regardless, I don't agree with him usually, but I respect him. I believe he believes his intentions are honerable.

Problem: So does Commander Codpiece

I believe he believes his intentions are honerable.

Commander Codpiece .

Now HE'S just PLAIN EVIL! He lies and lies. It's all good, so long as "his base" continues to vacuum money out of our pockets. How does anyone believe that he gives a damn about this country and its citizens?

When I voted for Luger, things were much different in this country, hell... that was 20+ years ago. I was different. I wouldn't vote to re-elect him now, were I still his constituant.

Hmmm... This has been up for a full day now.

Is it too early to declare this a "Contard Free Zone"?

I'm loving every minute of watching their whole incompetent, corrupt, and just plain EVIL web of power collapse like a house of cards.
