American Afternoon with Sam Seder – Monday May 5th 2008

By

Air America’s 3-6pm et time slot welcomes back Sam Seder.  Sam’s HOUR ONE Guest will be Philippe Sands.  Sands is a British Queen's Counsel at Matrix Chambers, and is Professor of International law at University College London. Sands is notable for authoring a book, "Lawless World", where he accuses US President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair of conspiring to invade Iraq in violation of international law. In May 2008 his follow-up book, titled "Torture Team: Rumsfeld's Memo and the Betrayal of American Values" will be released.

Finally, the HOUR THREE guest will be Laurence O’Donnell.  O’Donnell is widely known as an outspoken television political commentator, and was the Democratic Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Finance from 1993 through 1995. In 1992, he was Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.  O'Donnell made himself a key figure in the coverage of the Valerie Plame scandal by naming Karl Rove as the primary source for Matt Cooper's story. He is well known for his strong dislike of California's current governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Finally! A SMART programming decision from AAR!!

To everyone in management and programming at AAR:

I'm a registered member for 3 years and 51 weeks but was an avid AAR listener and fan since minute #1 on day #1.

I have, however, been rendered aghast and livid by those famous AAR bonehead programming gaffs that have come up every few months. (Oh, and trying to power-play Randi into altering her contract and LOSING HER by inhibiting her free speech was just the icing on the cake. Talk about killing your Golden Goose...)

But here's your chance to redeem yourself: Randi, Rachel, and SAM were your three best talents, and as much as I love Randi, I love Sam equally and have often thought he has been grossly underappreciated and under-utilized by the programming boneheads up there and has conducted himself with class and professionalism throughout.

Well, I'm a huge Randi fan, and you have actually found a way to make me tune away from her--and Nova M--today and back to AAR. Love Randi, but I'm in the mood for a Seder Show today and happily tuned away from Randi to hear him instead.

Keep it up, give Sam a daily spot--and treat him like the great talent he is--and I may turn out to be one loyal listener that you HAVEN'T managed to piss away.

Not sure which format Sam would prefer long-term, but I'm particularly eager to hear how Seder and Maron play together in this slot later in the week. (Also sorely missed Maron when you geniuses gave him the premature axe in favor of, ahem, Jerry Freakin' Springer.) If they play well together without Maron stomping on Seder's informative, investigative momentum, this high-talent combo may well be your best bet yet.

I'm listening closely, and you're quickly running out of chances to get this right. Randi's still at Nova M waiting for me to tune back to her.

Oh, and that random wheel of celebrities who couldn't do a coherent radio show at gunpoint--that has GOT TO STOP NOW!!!! Name recognition only gets listeners for the first 5 minutes if they suck. And, believe me, I gave everybody you threw at me an honest, optimistic try---(but only for the first 5 minutes, because, well, they sucked.)

Seder. Daily. Well-paid. NOW!!!

Thanks,

Ken
