The Southern Strategy: it's not just for Republicans anymore

Dear General,

I've noticed that a lot of Republicans have been voting in the Democratic primaries lately. Rush Limbaugh is taking credit for it, claiming he's been turning out the vote for Clinton in an effort exacerbate tensions within the Democratic party. What do you think about that?

David,
That's a great question. It allows me to write about the most exciting development in the campaign, Sen. Clinton's decision to pander to people like me.

I hate to disagree with Rush, but I think there is a different dynamic at play here, Sen. Clinton's recent reversion to old school Democratic values--and by "old school" I mean George Wallace in 1964 Democratic values. You see, Nixon's Southern Strategy isn't just for Republicans anymore.

Finally, for the first time in over forty years, a Democratic candidate is pandering to people just like me, "cracker dads," and that's flattering as hell. If I were French, I'd even go so far as to call it "empowering."

I'm not sure what prompted her to seek the scared white man vote--I like to think she had her eureka moment while watching that scene in Blazing Saddles when the townspeople realize the sheriff is black and exclaim things like, "Oh my God! He's a Negro!"--but what ever triggered it, I'm grateful.

I no longer need to feel embarrassment when the sight of a black man makes me pee my pants in terror. I know Sen. Clinton will be right there, wiping off my bowling shoes and reminding me that she cares about "hard working white Americans" like me.

I never dreamed I'd ever say this, but she's earned my respect. And she'll continue to have it even after I cast my vote for John McCain in November.

Limbaugh

knows that Hillary represents the same type of corporatist that we have had to endure over the last 30 years. I said this long ago and it appears to be coming to fruition.

Many posts ago, I pointed out how I thought the fake neocon outrage over Hillary is part and parcel to the usual fake outrage Republicans do a poor job of acting out when they are trying to pretend they don't approve of something they do every day.

The Republicans and the neocon regime know they are in good corporate hands should Hillary get the nomination as demonstrated by the Clinton dynasty trade policy in the 90's. They initially pretended they were against her, thinking this would encourage real Americans to vote for her to defy them.

Once they realized that Hillary was in trouble in the primary, they immediately started to support and promote her, whether we are talking about Man Coulter's endorsement on Fox news, or Limbaugh's pleading with Republicans to try to make sure she gets the nod. Even Hannity is supporting Hillary after years of pretending he didn't.

The neocons want Hillary as the nominee, because they will be just fine whether she or McCain are elected.

The only potential threat to continued fascist corporate domination of our representatives is Obama. The only potential threat to continued aggressive, fascist imperialization of sovereign nations is Obama.

Instead of "obliterating" nations, Obama is interested in diplomacy.

It is time to purge the disgusting Republicans that have infested the Democratic party since the '90's. As we come closer to the definitive vote, the only candidates that you know are not Republican are the ones the neocon regime doesn't support.
