Obama takes lead in Superdelegates
I’m happy to see my progressive Congressman, Peter DeFazio jump in to endorse Obama. I wonder if he’ll be on hand later today.
As Obama has more strength in the West than he does in the South, I’ve touted our former Governor Kitzhaber as a solid VP candidate. He has a proven record of reaching across the aisle to get legislation passed, particularly the Oregon Health Plan. As a former ER doctor, Kitzhaber has also remained active as a champion of universal healthcare coverage. Consider this innovative aim.
DeFazio was joined by more super endorsements, including a crossover who formerly supported Clinton, so he now takes the superdelegate lead for the first time.
As I predicted Tuesday, the tide of supers committing is growing this week. Two weeks from today, that tide will have grown so strong that Clinton is likely to feel compelled to concede the nomination. Between the post-primary speeches on the evening of 5/20 and the end of that week (5/23), the general election campaign will officially launch.
I hope for both the candidates and their families, a long, luxurious Memorial Day weekend off so they can take a real breather from a long, exhausting and emotionally intense process.
Update: word has it that there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes negotiations occurring now. Discredited journalist and Clinton sycophant Stephanopoulous has been on Good Morning America today still pitching Clinton as angling for the VP slot. I consider that an improbable outcome. Other matters, like Clinton’s campaign debts, delegate seating accords, etc, are more likely, and such negotiations still may not yield an official withdrawal till the 5/20-5/23 period, or perhaps after the 5/13 WV primary, where Clinton could depart on a high note.

Obama declair Victory on May 20th and pick running mate
I am very proud of the excellent campaign that Sen. Barack Obama has run. I am from New England but 2 1/2 years ago took the leap with my wife and moved to Portland, Oregon. My daughers, their husbands, all Oregon residents are jubilant that we are about to see history. Forty years ago, "Moses" went up on the mountain but told us he couldn't go there but we would (eventually). It has taken, like the Hebrew children of old 40 years of 'wandering in the wilderness'. Now "Joshua" is about to take us forward. His name this time is Barack (Blessed One of God).
I feel blessed that his destiny begins once he clinches the Democratic nomination for our selection for Presidential candidate to fight the righteous fight against the ignorance and fear of a generation of Americans.
Sen. Obama will have many issues to address with one of them who will be his running mate.
I have a couple of suggestions: One is Governor Bill Richardson. Bill brings more experience to this important position than many of the potential candidates. He knows how to build relationships on an international level. He has the humility it takes to be the 2nd executive level leader in our Republic. He is a SWestern governor with hispanic roots. He has strong relationships with governors all over the nation as well has strong leadership in western states.
The second choice from my perspective would put Bill Richardson as the Secretary of State, still allowing his lifetime experience and devotion to our country to shine.
The second choice would be retired 4-Star General Wesley Clark. He is a Sen. Hilary Clinton supporter and former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. He is a real hero, Vietnam, Bosnia. He has a Silver Star, Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts and other awards. He graduated 1st in his class at West Point. He knows how to build relationships internationally and he has nation-state leaders who trust him. His presence on the ticket with Barack Obama would squash McCain. He is a southerner (Arkansas). His presence on the ticket affects military and armed force personnel who will trust his leadership. He would soften Hilary's loss. I worked for Gen. Clark in NH back in 2004. He is man, full of compassion. He supports education, cares about the environment, veteran's affairs and is against this illegal war.
Go Oregon, yes we WILL! Our prayers will be Sen. Obama as he and Michelle march forward to November 2008. May God guide his path and protect him as he brings this party and nation together.
