Operation Chaos !

By An Asked Liberal

Hey Lib,

OPERATION CHAOS, BABY! IN YOUR
FACE! YES!!

Triumphant in Tipton, IN

Dear Triumphant,

Please remember to phrase your
question as a question. Though I can see how your command of such niceties
would get lost in your passion for the caps key. If I can infer a request
for information in your message, it would be something along the lines
of “Dear Liberal, do you think Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Operation Chaos’
is having any effect?”

For bloviator-averse readers,
Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos involves Republicans registering as
Democrats and voting for Hillary Clinton to prolong the nomination battle.
The fact that the prolonged battle has led to millions of real Democratic
Party registrants is not factored into his equation.  Rush recently
said he now prefers that Barack Obama be the nominee—a conclusion
reached suspiciously soon after Barack Obama became the all-but-certain
nominee.

In fairness to Rush, infiltrating
one’s opponents through means of dubious legality can certainly work.
The New England Patriots built a dynasty on it. It all derives from
a basic human need to somehow feel in control of a chaotic and confusing
universe. This need leads some people to scientific and technological
innovations, and others to compulsively rearrange the silverware drawer.
In Rush’s case I think he’s closer to obsessive hand washing than
to solving the unified field theory. The biggest problem I have is with
the name “Operation Chaos.” Political operations shouldn’t sound
like something that gets rejected at a Marvel Comics brainstorming session.
Frankly it’s too corny for Squirrel Girl.

Bottom line: concentrate on
advancing your own candidate, and not over-thinking a sabotage campaign
on your opponent. Otherwise I would be encouraging Republicans to check
out Bob Barr’s recently launched Libertarian campaign at Bobbarr2008.com.
