American Afternoon with Ron Reagan – Tuesday, May 13th 2008

By

Ron Reagan is back for his 2nd day in the guest host chair.  Today is another big day for the Dems as the West Virginia primary is happening.  Ron will open up the phones today for your comments on the primary as well as asking a couple guests what they think.

Joining Ron in HOUR ONE will be Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY).  Slaughter is currently representing New York's 28th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, and serving as chair of the powerful House Rules Committee. The 28th district is based in Rochester and Buffalo and includes parts of Erie, Monroe, Niagara and Orleans Counties.  Despite representing a historically Republican area, Slaughter is one of the most liberal members of the New York congressional delegation from upstate New York. She is one of several Democratic congressmen and senators who post at Daily Kos, a Democratic-oriented blog.  Louise is a Hillary Clinton backer but recently came out and said that Hillary’s chances of winning the Democratic nod is “pretty slim”.  Ron and Congresswoman Slaughter will be talking about the candidates and today’s primary.

Joining Ron is HOUR TWO will be John Dean.  Dean was White House Counsel to U.S. President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. As White House Counsel, he became deeply involved in events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and the subsequent Watergate scandal cover up, even referred to as "master manipulator of the cover up" by the FBI. Dean is currently an author, columnist, and commentator on contemporary politics, strongly critical of conservatism and Republican Party, and a registered independent supporting impeachment of President Bush.  Dean is the author of “Conservatives w/o Conscience”, “Worse Than Watergate”, “Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches” and his latest book called “Pure Goldwater”.

Rachel Maddow and Thom Hartmann are two of the most intelligent and well-informed talk show hosts in the USA. Not only are they knowledgeable about most issues on the political scene, they both cover a wide spectrum of topics. And, thank goodness they both have great senses of humor.
If you notice, they represent the progressive/liberal point of view. During this long campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, neither has expressed a preference. THIS IS AS IT SHOULD BE. A host on such programming has an obligation to inform listeners, not attempt to sway them toward one candidate or another. Both Rachel and Thom talk about the problems and mistakes both candidates have had. But always, they present the progressive/liberal point of view. They tell their listeners why McCain would be another 4 years of Bush.
I think highly of your appearances on cable news networks and AAR, Ron, but I do not appreciate your partisanship. Should you have a choice? Certainly! I'm sure Rachel and Thom do as well. But the audience is not here to listen to your preference. We listen to learn how to fight the good fight against Republicans and Conservatives who wish to take away more of our rights, continue the war in Iraq and possibly spread it to Iran, appoint more conservative Supreme Court judges, and continue to ruin our economy.
Please consider this when you appear on AAR. Many of us need to listen to what's best for our nation. In the case of Clinton and Obama, both brilliant and capable, either has my vote. Let's get on to the larger issues.
