Thanks for letting us know, Kris. Now can you tell us when Rachel will be back from vacation, or is that a state secret? She really needs some rest and relaxation. She has been great on tv and the radio. Oh, I am thinking that maybe Keith will take next week off, will Rachel sub for him?

Oh, I just re-read the 5/27 blurb and is just says DB did the interview, so must have been from last night's show. Doesn't say a thing about today's show. Does that mean we have to wait to see if Rachel is on? Wouldn't it be nicer to let us know beforehand?

By SingSingJune 27, 2008 - 4:39pmHang on Stevens ...
I found the sound at http://www.whittierpeace.org/sound/hangonstevens.mp3
Hang on Stevens, Stevens hang on
Hang on Stevens, Stevens hang on
Stevens might be eighty six years old
But I think he looks spry when he's wearing that robe
Stevens I don't care if you loose your mind
Just wait until Bush leaves before you resign
And in the same vein…
Hang on Ginsburg, Ginsburg hang on
Hang on Ginsburg, Ginsburg hang on
Cancer sucks and I hope it never comes again
But even if it does please just stay on the bench
Just keep on keeping on girl, you're doing just fine
Until January Twenty of Two Thousand and Nine
Everybody…
Hang on Stevens, Stevens hang on
Please!
Hang on Ginsburg, Ginsburg hang on
Even Kennedy hang on, Kennedy even you
Even Kennedy hang on, Kennedy even you
Please live long Breyer
Live long, live long
Oh live long Souter
Live long, live long
Oh live long Ginsburg
Live long, live long
Oh live long Stevens
Live long, live long
Just stay on that court
hang on, hang on
Just please stay on that court
hang on, hang on
Shake it, shake it, shake it Stevens
hang on, hang on
Shake it, shake it, shake it Ginsburg
hang on, hang on
Hang on Stevens, Stevens hang on
Hang on Stevens, Stevens hang on
(it's a subset of http://www.whittierpeace.org/fun.htm ... I may manage, one of these days, to break the firm association in my head that brings up Dick Nixon every time I hear "Whittier.")

By palepinkJune 27, 2008 - 5:59pmMore sounds available
I didn't know you were looking for this; I could have provided it to you. I have lots of audio clips from the old The Al Franken Show (which is where this ditty came from) as well as lots of stuff from Morning Sedition (I *still* laugh at Timmy the Truth Turtle!).
Want any of these oldies? Let me know.

By eddroidJune 27, 2008 - 6:03pmPut Hillary on the bench.
Put Hillary on the bench. She was a very highly ranked lawyer. Make her a Supreme Court justice and let her make a difference for years to come.
Wes Clark as VP is an intriguing idea. The Clinton's backed Clark in 2004 and he endorsed her this cycle, so he would be a nod to the Clinton camp.

By jerome.santucciJune 27, 2008 - 7:22pmLove Clark, but
Whereas I like Clark, he ran a really lousy campaign back in 2004, thus I don't know how much he would be of help to Obama with the shameless Republicans this cycle. Make Clark the Secretary of Defense.

By pinellasJune 28, 2008 - 11:33amOuch
Europ. champ. Germ. vs. Spain 1-0, as viewed sunburned in Miami with my Argentinian brother-in-law. Merci, jungs. I still blame the German coach.
In media matters, it is verdammt difficult to blame the coach for being a fashion plate (confuser, but it takes time to observe how a coach can be a confuser) when your sister's "hi def" TV stretches everything horizontally. I don't mean to get all feminist at this time, nor all eating disorder-bewusst, but on this television all the men look like hulks and all the women look wide. When I complain about the current fashion plate German coach, no one knows what I mean about "senkrecht in die Hose gehen" because he looks comfortably fat. He's not.
Don't get me started about watching soccer on American TV. (Don't get me started about watching the Tour de France on American TV.) DisGUSTING weakass commentary, with key action interrupted by graphics shooting in and out and covering up the ball. (In re: Tour de France coverage, they continuously cut away from the boring French scenery for personality clips. You will know me by the trail of blood...) We would have changed to a Spanish commentary of today's game if possible. This Übertragung was slightly better than the last time (World Cup), because the children distracted and there was an Australian and, praise be, a lead Scot commentating. You couldn't help but appreciate that Scottish man's voice. The contents were still garbage, though I know it could have been worse.
FWIW: German soccer commentary: "Ballack... Frings... Ballack... Schweinsteiger... TOR!!!!" No "personality," thank you. And if one is disappointed in one's team's performance, you just say so. The same applies for politics and other matters of historical interest.

By MIKE IN VA.June 30, 2008 - 10:23amThe Beer King - short
Just back from my conference in NC...
For Buxtehude, NJS, and all other interested parties:
The Beer King is an AWESOME documentary ... on so many levels. Yes, it is about the quest to conquer the photochemistry that causes the skunkiness in beer when it is exposed to light. But the hilarity is fantastic, and can be appreciated by scientists and non-scientists alike (although chemists are additionally amused by smaller things like the overabundance of dry ice "smoke" in the background of lab scenes).
Anyhow, I do now own an actual copy of the 40-min movie. I am trying to find a good way to compress the .mp4 file (338 MB) to send it electronically. It was shown on Belgian public TV, so I have no problems distributing it here at my own discretion. Required viewing for all TRMS SAB members and aspiring members.
Will let you know when I've got a handle on managing the uber file. If anyone has any suggestions for compression, I am definitely open to them.
Now I'm headed home. Running on caffeine fumes -- 15-hour days of chemistry is a killer, even for diehards.
