The truth, as it seems to me is that most common religion that people practice is Secularsm, but they call it Religion because that's how the boxes are labeled. Other than that, except for the scholars, or the people who take Scripture seriously, people usually repeat slogans. Even Obama misquoted the Bible when he mentioned slavery he got it wrong, and failed to understand that the prohibitions on food were restricted to the "Children of Israel". He is not to be faulted, though, since he reads the texts like a Western academic, rather than a Jew for whom the text is basic to understanding that particular Faith. Hey, even many Jews don't read that text that carefully anymore!

At any rate, when Christianity for most Americans means going to Church on Christmas and Easter, going to Sunday School, if you do go to Sunday School at all, and gettin' confirmed, or whatever it is they do, I am not afraid of a Theocracy in the States. The Fundies will get lost in their obfuscations anyway, leaving the Mainstream Churches to preach their version of Secularism to their Believers.
