Siegelman challenges Pelosi and Congress
In anticipation of Nancy Pelosi attending Netroots Nation and taking questions, I asked the Governor what he'd like to ask of the Speaker:
Seder – Not to put too fine a point on it, but tomorrow Nancy Pelosi will be here answering questions that have been submitted already. There may be some questions from the audience – if there was a question you'd like posed to Nancy Pelosi about this specific situation – a question or almost a question, what would it be?
Siegelman – Everybody here knows what it would be. If the House Judiciary does what we believe it will and should do, which is to support a motion for contempt citation. When that hits the Speaker's desk we want that pushed before Congress - the full House - we want a vote on it as quickly as possible. It's something that's important to our Democracy and it's important to this country. I think time is of the essence so we would want a quick response to a favorable motion to hold Karl Rove in contempt.
To help encourage the Speaker to hold Rove and the Bush administration accountable, Siegelman also announced the launching of a new website, ContemptforRove.com
Commenting on the implications of case, the Governor went on to say:
"if we want our rights to protect us, we've got to protect our rights."
An important sentiment, if the chief law enforcement agency of our government is using it's powers to punish those that stand in the way of their taking even more power are any of us really safe?
