The Obama Referendum: Nothing To See Here

Corzine lost because of Corzine. Then again he did come close to winning and considering how far behind he was that in itself is remarkable. Now we have Christy a Bush lackey. There goes the environment and the social safety net. Looking at the map that the Star Ledger printed after the 2004 election New Jersey is not as Democratic as one would think. I live in the northern part of the state and quite frankly, Sussex, Warren , Morris and Ocean counties-well the vote does not surprise me at all.
Corzine did not run a good campaign. Chris Matthews keeps talking about Virginia well what about New Jersey? In the end the only thing that Corzine had left was fear about Christy and peoples pocket books won out over that. The truth is that Trenton does not work for it is a place where egos run rampant. The last Republican governor that we had was a disaster, Governor Whitman was incompetent to say the least Corzine hung himself by his inability to connect with the voters. I shudder to think what this state will be like after 4 or 8 years of Christy.
The Republicans won the two governors offices because the candidates shot themselves in the foot, One cannot see into the future but the Obama people should remember that 2012 will not be 2008 . At this point in time Obama will have to run a different campaign because the wingnuts are out there in red and purplr states that Obama won in 08. I think that Obama needs to go for the throat. The hell with the Republicans. Watching John Bonehead the Republican minority leader on TV yesterday sickened me. President Obama has shown to be one of our most mature, intelligent presidents-unfortunately for now it seems that bigotry ,stupidity & fear are overtaking common sense
Regarding NYC, Mayor Mike has run into the Koch factor. As Mayor Ed learned New Yorkers get tired of their mayors after eight years. New York is a tough city to manage- How does Daly do it in Chicago??
Ed Koch who was a pretty good mayor wore out his welcome and apparently so is Mayor Mike. While Bloomburg has done a rather good job of managing New York he has to realize that these four years are the final four. Apparently the voters were miffed that he overturned their decision regarding term limits. Pride go before the fall still could hold true. One final comment- what happened in Maine does not surprise me. It seems that religious intolerance once again rears its ugly head.

I find it curious that you find it SINFUL to have two people love each other. What if your parents decided that whomever you cared for was sinful.

To believe that any two (adult) people who are in love are sinful merely because of that love, is truly past "narrow-minded" and verges on something far less savory.

In fact the only thing I saw was a demonstration of a majority of some states voters inability to recognize the relevant issues, not to mention their own fecklessness when comes to hot button issues.

All I can say is I hope the people of the Commonwealth remember what happened the last time they elected a slate of culture warriors. True politico types will recall how Gov. What is there to say about Maine, where illiteracy is a second language. About the only thing that was preserved was institutionalized bigotry and discrimination. Too bad that the Catholic church wasted all that $ to perpetuate its own hollow ideology.

That million $ could of been put to far better use serving the poor and the hungry. Perhaps they arestill hoping that they can peel off enough Angelican's to make up the difference.

About the only race that remotely resembles a national referendum, might be NY's 23rd district. This is a district that hasn't gone Democratic since before the Civil War. Perhaps one of our resident trolls would care to explain why the voters chose to reject their independent "Club for Growth" partisan.

It would be a fair assessment to say the Replicants might have a problem with their message when endorsements from their brightest stars; Palin and Pawlenty weren't enough to sufficiently energize their 20% base.

This could represent a trend that even Bloomberg style war chests might not be sufficient to overcome in the years to come. Then again that guy may of been the only candidate who was a bigger dishrag than Deeds.

I saw three lonely college students at a booth on campus today with a sign saying "young republicans". Pretty sad.

Then as I walked around the corner, there was a guy on the wall talking about how the god of the new testament and the god of the old testament were capitalists. He then said he was "worried" young people wouldn't get a chance to live the american dream. Now THAT was entertainment. Unfortunately I was too busy to stop and poke fun at him. That's Ok. Then there were some more serious booths. The "what is Islam?" booth was more sensible and had a larger crowd than the right wing whackos.

I vote Democrat because Republicans take the country in the wrong direction. They allow corporations to do what ever they please. So much for a referendum on the President. Let's see:

1) In Virginia, a pedantic Republican won because the Democrats couldn't scrape up more than a wet dishrag to run against him -- no great shock at the outcome.

2) In New Jersey, the voters got sick of being lied to by a Democrat, and decided to throw him out and try a Republican, because at least he's new. Which means nothing nationally, because NJ has been digging its own smelly, Turnpike-riddled hole for years, through a succession of poor choices for Governor, both Republican and Democrat. Anyone who makes hay out of what happen here in Joisy don't know their ass from their elbow.

3) In upstate New York, the conservative Republicans handed the Democrats a victory by pissing on moderate Republicans, the same thing they have been doing since 2006. Frankly, the whole conservative screed has worn thin, so the voters in the 23rd sent the conservative Charlie McCarthy look-alike packing, rather than listen to him parrot that kind of "America: Love It or Leave It" claptrap.

4) Maine proved once again that it just can't move into the 20th Century, let alone the 21st. Thank you Maine, for being a stick up New England's rectum.

5) People of the City of New York showed that they don't mind having their judgment run over by a man who would declare himself King of The City, but the did make sure, by a narrower than polled margin, to send the message that the crown is going to lie on a very uneasy head if the mayor doesn't get his act together.
